My teen DD and I dress very similarly - does it matter?

I’m 46, she’s 17. Both have a pretty casual style and tbf to me I’ve dressed much the same for years but I realised today we were almost identical in black jeans, grey sweatshirt, furry jacket and Airforce One trainers.

I’d hate to be mistaken for one of those mums who tries to be their daughter’s best mate and wants to go on the pull with them - we’re very close but that’s not at all my style! I also wonder if I’m kidding myself and trying too hard to look young but I’m comfortable even if she does look better than me 🙄😂

Is this an issue or am I overthinking?

I reckon the problem is that everything looks better on a 17 year old

Oh, my 22 year old definitely looks better than me, by miles. She's gorgeous, And I'd not wish it any other way. 😊

I think it's really common for mothers and daughters to dress similarly. I shouldn't worry op.

Same here! (Teens & thirties). This thread is making me feel better about it.

To be honest, it's not something I welcome. I like watching what people wear - it's how I get a lot of my ideas - and I'm bored senseless with jeans-and-hoody double acts. But as I've said, I don't think that's our responsibility. I think it's up to young people to break away and find their own style, if they want to.

To be fair it’s “in” atm amongst young people to wear vintage style clothes so I can see how this might happen!

My dress sense is rather different to most people in my family.

My eldest in Y7 so we are just hitting this in earnest. More formal clothing we dress differently since she doesn't wear dresses but casual outfits are a different story. She recently got her first DMs and the next time we went out she was wearing them. She looked at me and said 'aren't you wearing your DMs?' and I said 'Are you sure you want to be wearing the same boots as your mother?' and she just laughed and said 'Oh yeah, probably not'. A sad day.

Both my daughter and daughter-in-law have, independently, bought this same item of clothing but in different colours.

Bluntness100 · 08/01/2020 21:54

I don't think any one here is wearing vintage clothes. Just because we are mothers, doesn't mean we dress naturally in clothes so old they would now be classified as vintage. 🤣🤣🤣

Nope, it's cute! If you were both channeling Kat Slater then answers would be different but you're not!

@ mumtumdocare Kat Slater Grin

I didn’t mean for my comment to come across in that way, my apologies 🤣
