Did you ever wear makeup? Did you stop at some point or have you never worn it? Did you ever think about wearing it? Why don't you? Do you generally put much thought into your appearance or are you not at all interested?

I agree with pp who said that heavy makeup , Kardashian style, makes you photograph better but just looks really weird in real life.

avocadoze · 29/12/2019 21:08

I like the way I look without make up. Confused that’s all.

CherryCheezcake · 29/12/2019 21:12

I don't wear make-up apart from for parties and job interviews. For me, it's a waste of time and money. I have bad skin and make-up makes it worse, and I'm very much of the 'you can't polish a turd' school of thought - I'll still be ugly with make-up on, so why bother?

Eesha · 29/12/2019 21:14

I stopped when I was living with my ex. I figured he saw what I was normally like and no real difference there. Now I only really wear it when I'm going out. I have friends who always wear makeup and look so polished. I just don't think I look any different.

Spacerader · 29/12/2019 21:16

I used to wear makeup daily up until 2/3 years ago. (I'm mid 30s), I kinda gave up when I started my new job, it wasnt really necessary to wear makeup, now I only wear it on the weekends sometimes or in the evening as if going out. However, that being said I have been considering making more of an effort day to day with myself so may start again

DoctorNicoleWatterson · 29/12/2019 21:43

I have never worn make up, I'm fairly happy with how I look without so never saw the need. I'm mid forties and do care how I look. Admittedly I'm also quite lazy so would chose those extra 5 minutes in bed over applying make-up.

I would say I think I look older than most of the women I know my age, whether this is down to lack of make-up and general skin care I don't know.

CountFosco · 29/12/2019 22:50

I wore makeup for going out when I was younger (very much about display and the music I liked determined the makeup I wore) but as I got older I went out less and less and now it doesn't seem worthwhile buying makeup for a few nights out with dH a year. I've never worn makeup during the day, I work in a job (science) where that would mark you as being a bimbo and interested in irrelevant things. Some of the young girls at work do wear the fashionable very heavy makeup and it just makes them look older, fine for a night out but not appropriate for our work.

Generally I am interested in my appearance though, get my hair cut every 6 weeks (would never dye it, think unless you spend a fortune it look shite but I'm nearly 50 amd only a little bit grey so it's probably more youthful for me to have my natural colour on display), spent thousands on clothes each year, eat healthily, exercise every day and don't smoke or drink to excess. But prefer natural healthy looks to artifice.

Fochit · 30/12/2019 01:48

I’m wearing less and less as I get older and mostly none at all to work which is one of those things I never thought would happen

Fochit · 30/12/2019 01:49

There’s some sad posts on this thread

joggingon · 30/12/2019 02:09

Zero make up. Have tried and tried. I look ok but the I go to the loo and I look like shit! I've bought ££££ brands. Had a lesson. Am simply no good at it.

Perid0t · 30/12/2019 02:39

I used to and still do occasionally. Maybe once a week on average. I’ve got to the point where I am too damned tired of taking off make up every night 🤣 got very lazy.

I do care about my appearance, I just have better things to do than put loads of stuff on my face just to take it off again several hours later.

1ToughCookie · 30/12/2019 07:27

Did you ever wear makeup?
Yes, 5-6 days/week when I was a teen

Did you stop at some point or have you never worn it?
I stopped sometime during University. The other girls were either very Kardashian or very polished, and I got tired of playing dress up. I also worked two jobs and learned minimal makeup for them. Eventually my skin cleared up so there wasn't much difference with makeup or without.

Did you ever think about wearing it?
Sure

Why don't you?
Not much point in putting slap on your face to wash it down the drain when you stay at home with new baby. Alternatively not enough time then trying to get out of the house with baby in tow. Who does makeup to go to the dentist/doctor anyway?

Do you generally put much thought into your appearance or are you not at all interested?

I'm very interested especially as I'm rebuilding my wardrobe post baby. But I'd rather invest in good, useable clothes and in skin care than in makeup. I wear my skin all the time. Makeup tends to clog up all my pores. And funny, no one notices when I've got some makeup on anyway. So why do it? I'll opt for a bit of eye liner and fill my brows from time to time but that's it

SheilaHammond · 30/12/2019 07:37

Used to wear a full face everyday as a teen but now I just wear a coloured lip balm. Reasons:

  1. Look better, more ‘me’ without it
  2. Skin much happier without (use a good moisturiser though)
  3. CBA with it
  4. Work with women who don’t wear makeup and it would look out of place and try hard
  5. Am 50 and feel liberated from having to comply with social norms about how women should look
  6. Cost, and lack of skill in doing it, and CBA to learn
  7. Admire women who don’t wear makeup
  8. Personal goals for my appearance are healthy weight, natural grey hair well cut and conditioned, look like myself and my age.
milveycrohn · 30/12/2019 07:38

I really dislike anything around my eyes, so never wear eye makeup. I don't like lipstick, so never wear that either.
However, I will try and gently cover up some spots, (if any), and colour my hair - mainly for work purposes.

TheGriffle · 30/12/2019 07:43

I’ve never worn make up. I’m pale and have freckles and any makeup would make them disappear. I never learnt how to do it and now at 33 just can’t be bothered. Plus if I sweat which would make me worry it would sweat off and I touch my face a lot and would worry about smudging.

Namenic · 30/12/2019 08:03

I don’t wear make up because it is a hassle and also I like splashing my face with water during the day to refresh myself. I did wear it at my wedding though.

I pretty much don’t think of my appearance much, but am trying to lose weight as some clothes don’t fit. For smart occasions I try to pick out clothes I think look nice, but don’t mind wearing the same thing multiple times.

Fortunately DH seems to find me attractive without make up, which is lovely.

Chochito · 30/12/2019 15:20

I'm crap at applying it and genuinely think I look worse with it on (I don't think I look amazing without it - FAR from it!)

I go to the gym and run every day and like to shower then go. I also don't do anything to my hair except wash it. I do like dressing up and like to shop for clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, perfume, etc., and I care how I look, but after 40 years I've had to admit that I'm just useless with make-up. I do wear very light eye make-up (a neutral coloured shadow and light eyeliner) for very special occasions.

damnthatanxiety · 30/12/2019 18:41

Chochito people tend to wear makeup to highlight their features and smooth their skin. You have bizarrely (!!!) clear skin!! And your light blue eyes already contrast against your lashes so tbh, you look great as you are!

OP posts:
goose1964 · 30/12/2019 21:05

I don't on a day to day basis. but I do occasionally if I!I'm going out but TBH I've never really looked any different with it.

Chochito · 30/12/2019 22:44

damnthatanxiety Thank you so much, that's really kind. The photo is a bit crap but yes I do have clear skin. And my lashes and brows are black / very dark brown. Great as the idea of mascara makes me gag (I couldn't stick something like a mascara wand near my eye).

mrbob · 30/12/2019 22:49

I don’t wear make up. I probably put it on 2-3 times a year for weddings/big nights out. There are many reasons- mainly laziness. Why put make up on when I could have an extra 5 minutes in bed? I am also not convinced it would make any difference to my life- I am confused why anyone really bothers unless they actually enjoy it (but lots seem not to) I have saved $$$ no doubt and I am sure it is part of the reason my skin is so good. Also it means when I do put make up on people actually notice Grin and they know I have officially “made an effort” I also live in a hot place and it would probably sweat off pretty fast...

mrbob · 30/12/2019 22:52

Also no I don’t really care hugely for my appearance. I look fine, like any normal person but I get my hair cut twice a year max, don’t use any skin care products, shop mainly at Kmart and have had a about 3 manicures in my life. I genuinely don’t suppose anyone has noticed and certainly no one cares. People put them selves under so much pressure to look good when most of them would look just as good (just different) with none of the effort or money

gypsywater · 30/12/2019 23:50

@damnthatanxiety that's obviously a filtered photo, you can tell looking at the skin! Very pretty tho the poster who posted it :)

CourtneyJayne95 · 30/12/2019 23:52

Stopped wearing it when broke up with my baby daddy, used to put me on my place if I didn't wear it lol xx

Chochito · 31/12/2019 08:46

gypsywater Thanks, that's very kind. It's not a filtered photo but as I said my phone camera is pretty rubbish.
