I am planning to dress more adventurously. I always play safe so I am going to spice it up a bit.

actionpacked · 28/12/2019 14:28

Me! I’m aiming for a bit smarter, not smart smart but like I’ve made some effort Grin Actually, I’d love to look effortlessly smart but I think that look probably takes a LOT of time and effort Grin

SugarMiceInTheRain · 28/12/2019 14:33

Yes. Thinking about making an appointment with a personal stylist to get some recommendations so I can dress to suit my shape and size a bit better.

I am! I've been planning it for a couple of months, bought it all in the sales. I've always dressed smart casual and this will be the same category but quite a different look. I used to do a change of style often but it's been a few years, four?, since my last change, so I'm a little more anxious about this!

SexNamesRFab · 28/12/2019 16:47

Me, kinda. Last year was really busy with work and a house to renovate, I realised I'd neglected myself (put on weight, hadn't bothered to make the trip my fab hairdresser or make any additions to my wardrobe - I wear clothes out fast). Also, I work from home lots these days so need more smart casual rather than work wear.

Instead of saying to myself it's not worth bothering buying anything until I lose the weight or dressing up for the school run, I want to embrace who and what I am now. First step is footwear, these just arrived. DH asked if I ordered the grey ones from the back page the the daily fail mag Xmas Hmm

Me, not so much the clothing, but definitely hair, make up, diet and fitness

These last few months in particular I've been going to work after a splash of water and tying my hair in a bobble. I catch sight of myself in the mirror and it's not pretty.

I've got some lovely make up that never sees the light of day. Next year for sure!

OverByYer · 28/12/2019 16:56

Yes. I realised over Christmas that whilst I have lots of practical clothes, ie fro work, for walks, casual, I have very few nice things to wear.
I don’t go out much ( ever) to nice places but I’m looking to buy more pretty things ( and maybe go somewhere nice to wear them too)
Might also get a make up overhaul as well as have worn the same stuff forever

Fredy45 · 28/12/2019 17:38

I may have some new work opportunities so I want to smarten up a little but not too much. Try and be a bit funkier perhaps.

I'd like to look after myself better in terms of exercise and food and skin care. I regularly look a bit dowdy and run down and I'd like to look a bit more lively.

FlyTipper · 28/12/2019 18:11

Where will you get your ideas of new looks from? I'm looking but not finding...

kittykatkitty · 28/12/2019 18:22

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️
I'm going full on self care for 2020
More sleep
More water
Better food choices
Exercise
Nails, hair, and makeup daily
Also not saving my nice things for best.
Going to wear them out and about

happytobemrsg · 28/12/2019 19:06

I had a style makeover in 2019 & I’m much happier with my clothes now. Good luck everyone!

ElizaB22 · 28/12/2019 23:52

Yes I had an online style session done and I am going to try and use this as a basis to update my wardrobe. For my shape etc I was told one thing I have worn for years (and have many versions) was not ideal and when I tried it next to what was suggested, the new suggestion looked so much better, so I feel I need a declutter and to start again, they actually gave great advice, lovely compliments and I feel more positive than before about how to tackle it.

didireallysaythat · 29/12/2019 00:55

@ElizaB22 do you mind if I ask where you had you style session? I know which colours (don't) suit me but I'm not good at styles.

ElizaB22 · 29/12/2019 10:47

@didireallysaythat, I used Styled by Susie, I did the gold package which is an online session costing £65, I really swithered as to whether or not to spend the money but honestly I have saved more by not buying things that wouldn't have worked, I also bought two of her books, the basics ones and the decluttering one. I managed to pull together some good outfits from stuff I had but wouldn't have put together, I also follow her and her "styled by Susie tribe" on facebook and instagram. Hope that helps.

didireallysaythat · 29/12/2019 11:15

@ElizaB22 - thank you. I'll take a look..

puds11 · 29/12/2019 11:21

I’m a mess. 6 months post c section, dress like a tent and hair is shocking. Always do brows and lashes though Hmm

Aiming to have a sleeker style but still try to retain my hippyish vibe (this is a struggle). I’ve just bought the babyliss big hair styler so hoping that adds some effortless glam!

puds11 · 29/12/2019 11:22

Am now following Susie Grin

winterisstillcoming · 29/12/2019 13:23

Ooooh. I'm in. I've improved so much this last year. I'm buying less but being more discerning. I'm slowly weeding my wardrobe.

What's helped me is that I've recently found my 'look'. It's a bit smarter than normal. Clean lines, with a subtle glam. I think that's been the key, and all my decisions are based around that. I also follow celebs with the same colouring, body shape and 'look'.

Also I've bought some good boots and good coats as I can throw them over whatever and still look smart. Especially in this weather.

I'm also slowly selling things on eBay. I sold all sorts of bits just before Christmas and spent my entire PayPal balance on a Maje coat that I've been drooling over.

My skincare has been on and off but I know what needs doing and what to do so it's just a case of doing it all consistently which I have trouble with.

I've also got myself a makeup no make up routine. It's taken a lot of trial and a few trips to the make up counter. OMG tight lining is the way forward.

My main thing this year will be diet and exercise and generally looking after my health. So water, plants, yoga and HIIT.

I am learning that small changes over time add up and that there's no quick fix. So keep at it, tweaks here and there and all of a sudden things start to come together.

happytobemrsg · 29/12/2019 13:53

I used SBS too @ElizaB22 & bought my mum the gold analysis for Christmas!

helpneedshoes · 29/12/2019 14:08

Me!

I naturally veer towards comfortable dressing but I have so many beautiful clothes & shoes that I'm going to make more effort when I go out now. One thing I've struggled with the last few yrs is the lack of nice trends, I want to refresh my look but not sure how at the mo.

ElizaB22 · 29/12/2019 16:17

@happytobemrsg, I am thinking about getting my 20 year old DD a gold analysis as I was really pleased with my SBS analysis.

Amortentia · 29/12/2019 16:29

Yes. This last year, for the first time in a very long time I’ve had lots of money to spend. My first love is make up and skincare so have invested quite a lot and am very happy with my skin, hair and make up.

Unfortunately, it’s been a pretty stressful year too and even though I look better than I have in years I’ve put on quite a bit of weight. I’ve bought hardly any clothes and can barely squeeze in to what I do have. I can’t stand the thought of buying anything just now so will have to shed a lot of weight. Once I’ve done that and am feeling fitter I’ll be hitting the shops.

My only issue is that I’ve no idea what look to go for. I prefer simple, classic clothes but I think this look is actually ageing me. I don’t know where to start and am so out the loop when it comes to fashion I hate everything I see online and haven’t looked a fashion magazine in years without laughing. Where do middle aged, smart casual dressers shop?

dudsville · 30/12/2019 12:59

sexnames, I'm also changing my footwear to trainers. I really like yours. I've chosen three pairs. It used to be that my shoes were the smartest thing about me and the rest was classic casual in skinnies. Now I've given up skinnies and gone for slightly smarter clothes I feel I need the trainers to make my new choices look less frumpy. Trainers are soooo comfortable!

I'm also opting for louder, a bit more "look at me" clothes. My previous look was all navy/grey/black, block. I'm struggling a little with the new stuff. I'm an introvert and people are noticing the changes. Years ago I got a fringe and nearly everyone in my office of 200 staff commented on it, so at least I am prepared and I do love these things so I keep telling myself if I was going to die tomorrow I'd much rather have worn this dress and suffer the conversations about it than not.
