Isn’t there always one relative at Christmas no one particularly wants to be around? You put up with them for someone else’s sake.

Been there in the past & have the hat.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2019 10:06

But awkward for Eugenie too, given her involvement with the Anti-Slavery Collective, but he is her father after all.

Louise looks like she borrowed one of her dad’s coats and changed the buttons round. I bet this is her disguise and she dresses like a Kardashian with her friends when they go out to Pizza Express.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2019 10:09

I think the Queen and Prince Charles showed personal solidarity with Andrew by going to church at 9 am. It was wise to keep him away from the public event. Apparently he was spending time with Prince Phillip whilst everyone else went to church.

Kate’s coat was fine, but a bit too ‘ fluffy’ .
If the main fabric was smooth, it would have looked better.
Unfortunately everyone went for beige, so the royal walk was a sea of bland.
I loved the Queen’s outfit. That was it.

As @BlingLoving said, I feel sorry for Ari Behn’s state of mind, but what a memory to leave his daughters for future Christmas days.

I would imagine Andrew is showing up for the shortest amount of time to be polite. Being spoken to by his daughters who feel sorry for him (he’s their Dad, cognitive dissonance is real) and Charles who feels it’s his duty to take the hit so the others don’t have to talk to him (ref- early church while the others were with younger royals on Christmas morning). Then Andrew is retreating to his own rooms and FaceTiming Fergie whilst William pours his Dad a large whisky and they get on with the evening or whatever.

banivani · 26/12/2019 10:32

Happy St Stephen’s Day right back Bean!

Fell off the internet for a bit there. Very tragic about Ari Behn’s suicide. The papers scrupulously don’t mention the cause of death but put links to helplines under all the articles. So tragic, and at Christmas.

The peak headband picture was hilarious!

Can’t believe grown adults stand shouting at little children to look at them. They should be ashamed of themselves.

itswinetime · 26/12/2019 10:37

Williams first public engagement may have been 8 but is first Sandringham walk was 5 Harry started at 4.

According to this article anyway town and country. I can't find any that show crowds though so they not have had to do a walk about I'm not sure when it really became a thing

I agree with a pp though I imagine the reason we are suddenly seeing so much of the young Cambridge kids is linked to low public opinion more than anything else.

I think charlotte and George are being brought up to see this sort of thing as normal.

I suppose it kind of is, for them at least. Sort of, can't fight it, might as well work out how to teach them to deal with it?

DevonUkelele · 26/12/2019 11:13

That's a classic pic, @itswinetime. I see a bit of William in George, with those heavy/frowny brows. Zara hasn't changed a jot!

astralweaks · 26/12/2019 11:23

“It's like having a shed load of inappropriate ageing aunts expecting a hug”

Do the same rules apply to “inappropriate ageing” uncles or even grandparents? What does “inappropriate ageing” actually mean, anyway?Confused

Random strangers are not family. HTH

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/12/2019 11:29

I read somewhere that the lady who gave Charlotte a doll was the same one who got the famous "fab four" shot a couple of years ago ... in which case she can certainly afford the doll Wink

astralweaks · 26/12/2019 11:30

Lady Louise has her own style.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 26/12/2019 11:36

The British royals do keep their teenage daughters dressed like middle aged matrons. Beatrice and Eugenie were the same. Louise is quite a contrast to Ingrid of Norway or Elisabeth of Belgium who are also in their teens and dress age appropriately but look modern. I guess that might be how she chooses to dress but I'm not sure it is.

I quite like the fact that she’s not being forced into appearing as ‘glamorous and polished teenage princess.’ But I also think she’d benefit from a shopping trip with cousin Zara, who does understated and stylish rather well most of the time.

itswinetime · 26/12/2019 11:36

Apparently lady Louise borrowed the coat and bag from Sophie something which she does a lot according this article I can't link it as it's Apple news but here is a Screen shot explains why her look is her older if she's boring from her mum. I guess royal formal where isn't her style

queenofarles · 26/12/2019 11:48

I read on another thread about the lady who hugged Charlotte is a regular and Kate looks out for her each year, so perhaps her hug is explainable?

AppleKatie · 26/12/2019 11:48

That pic of William’s first time at church is really interesting. Diana behind the queen. William isn’t in touching distance of either of his parents, correct me if I’m wrong but that doesn’t seem to be the case in any of yesterday’s pictures. The children were very close to a parent throughout.

SenecaFalls · 26/12/2019 11:55

I guess you deal with all sorts of people at these gatherings and you could never be in control.

True I suppose to an extent, but it appears that most of the people on the front row have disabilities. Elderly people in wheel chairs, younger people in wheelchairs, young adults with Down Syndrome. We don't know the whole story of the woman who reached out her arms to Charlotte, so there could well be another side to the story.

Happy Stephenses day to all the Irish Royal watchers 👋👋

WineOrGinOrBoth · 26/12/2019 12:09

It looks like Harry is holding onto Charles’s hand in that photo up thread.

itswinetime · 26/12/2019 12:10

I saw that thread but I don't think it's true

warning sun link

Summary for those that don't want to click the lady that hugged her said it was her first time ever seeing a royal so I don't think it was a regular or someone who they knew in anyway.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2019 12:11

Yes, and he and William are wearing matching Wedgwood blue coats!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2019 12:14

My fashionable sister has a grandad style coat. But you have to be quite “cool” to carry that look off.
Unfortunately Lady Louise is not. But she looks good in her carriage driving clothes

Annasgirl · 26/12/2019 12:19

Happy Stephenses day ladies - I posted a reply on another thread and had to use Boxing Day!!!

Such fab photos yesterday. I loved Kate - I think she was trying to blend in so the children would shine. And Charlotte was adorable - I reckon she will inherit Diana's star quality.

At least George didn't have a hideous outfit like William did in that old photo - my God, when I saw it I realised (looking at Diana and the others) that throughout my childhood and early teens that was what people wore!! Don't the Queen and Dof E look so young in that pic?

I think you are correct that Charles was landed with the role of keeping Andrew in line yesterday, although he did look around walking with Charlotte and George.

I know the children seem young but I think if was their mum I would want them to learn early so it comes naturally to them. And they can enjoy the rest of the holiday in seclusion and peace.

I would love if Lady Louise took inspiration from the Spanish princesses - they seem to wear formal royal but still look like young teen girls. But I suppose there is a limited market for "appropriate young royal formal attire" so I'm not sure where they would buy it.

Spudlet · 26/12/2019 13:06

There was definitely a high-speed copper zooming into view on the BBC’s video of hug-gate.

I know people generally mean well but it’s a big deal for such a little child to be exposed to all that shouting. I’m so glad DS doesn’t need to do that. He would hate every second of it. And he’d definitely pick his nose on camera 🙈
