Has anyone successfully reduced cellulite?

Feeling quite down at the mo as I’m not overweight (Bmi and body fat both normal) but I’m plagued by cellulite. I feel especially bad about my arms because nobody else seems to have it there. I’m not very ‘booby’ either so I feel like I look like a chunky baby from the waist up.

Has anyone successfully managed to combat the dreaded cellulite?

Thanks Smile

"30 miles might sound a lot, but it's only one long run on a Sunday, a parkrun with warm up and warm down, and 2/3 other short runs midweek."

5 times a week is a lot. I struggle to get to the gym once or twice a week. I also just don't have any ambition to be super fit. I want to be a bit fitter than a couch potato and I think that basic level does help, but see no need to be devote my whole life to it.

"I noticed a massive reduction in cellulite when I was clean eating, no caffeine, no alcohol no dairy and drinking 4 litres of water and exercising every day. "

Yeah, I'll keep the cellulite! Got to have a life!

When I was last on a beach I didn't see a single woman over 19 without some cellulite!

But I do appreciate there are probably some methods to reduce it somewhat.

Yes, by stopping drinking alcohol. The minute I started again, it was back. For me there's a definite relationship between the two. More's the pity.

At 6 miles an hour, that's 5 hours a week of running? An awful lot of people couldn't fit that in

Most people could; they just choose not to. I work full time, am doing a postgrad, and have two small DC. I also can't exercise in the evenings, as I have sole charge of the kids, which leaves me less time to play with.
Don't mean to sound like Smuggy McSmugFace, but I choose to make it work, and would rather run than watch tv/sit on the sofa/whatever.

So how it works for me is:
One long run on a Sunday, before the kids are up, of 2hrs ish
Parkrun with warm up and down on a Saturday (say, for arguments sake, up to an hour)
And then 2/3 runs midweek, of 4/5 miles each. These are either in lunchtimes or as part of my commute.

I cycle to work if I'm not running, which helps keep up the activity levels, too. I also swim one day a week, and try to get to the gym on the other day I don't run - though that often falls by the wayside if I have life admin piling up. I can't imagine the cycling helps the cellulite much though, as it's only 30 mins-ish and I'm carrying a lot of stuff, so not exactly pushing it hard.

5 hours of running may sound a lot (though it's not really 5 hours, as it's a lot faster than 6 miles per hour IYSWIM), but even 5 hours a week is do-able, even for busy people. You just have to want to prioritise it, and I get that most people don't! It's not easy to get up at 5am on a cold dark Sunday, but it's important to me, so I do it. Anyway, very sorry to derail the thread again...but it does sort out cellulite!

I think we need to break away from the narrative that exercising every day is "super fit." It should be normal. Even the NHS minimum guidelines are 30 mins of exercise 5 times a week. In running terms, that would be 20-odd miles already - or 15 if you're steadier.

BuffaloCauliflower · 21/12/2019 07:52

95% of women have cellulite to some degree, it’s NORMAL! Women have more layers of fat under their skin than men so more likely to have cellulite. Great to be healthier but don’t base expectations of your body on airbrushed images of what you think women should look like

Fasciablaster. Amazing results!

My baby has cellulite. It's what normal tissue looks like. Just get out more and stop gawping at your nethers so much.

I do dry January every year and have never noticed a difference.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/12/2019 12:37

"Even the NHS minimum guidelines are 30 mins of exercise 5 times a week"

Guidelines are usually that you have to do 3 types of exercise:
cardio
muscle
flexibility

So if someone followed the guidelines and were willing to devote time to exercise 5 days a week, it would still not be 5 times running because you'd need time for yoga/flexibility and muscle/weight lifting as well.
I have been toying with the idea of doing more exercise in the new year, but it couldn't be more jogging because to follow the guidelines what I should be adding is some weights work and some flexibility work.

That's because no booze for a month isn't long enough to have a major impact IMO - although it will undoubtedly make you feel better, and possibly lose a bit of weight too, if you drink a lot.

I'm teetotal and, a few months into stopping drinking, I noticed my skin was visibly smoother and clearer. It was definitely noticeable, in a way that it wasn't when I stopped drinking during pregnancy.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/12/2019 13:59

"although it will undoubtedly make you feel better, and possibly lose a bit of weight too, if you drink a lot."

It doesn't really have any noticeable effects on me, but I've read that it's good for me even as a moderate drinker so I still do it.

Tinytimoteo · 21/12/2019 15:53

All women and some men have it. Lipo on your arms? Id look into some fat surgery.

Alwayscheerful · 21/12/2019 18:55

Walking, running and water, completely disappeared at 50+

Candleabra · 21/12/2019 20:25

I'm sorry to say the solution for me was gradual and very boring: give up alcohol completely, drink loads of water and take regular exercise. Yoga and running have been particularly beneficial. Really slimmed down my thighs overall and significantly reduced cellulite. It's no quick fix though.

NeedToKnow101 · 22/12/2019 09:34

A study found that of all the commonly known things that claim to reduce cellulite, frequent dry brushing (or whatever it's called) was the one that worked.
