Has anyone actually used a face cream that has made a difference ?

Looking at my dressing table I have a million different type of face creams. Part used , where I have gone on to try another and another. I can honestly say that they do not make a jot of difference ! So, if you have found the holy grail please let me know and for how long did it take to show ?

I have rosacea and I’m hyper sensitive to nearly all moisturisers. The Claris serum in the blue bottle works for me followed by a slathering of very unglamorous prescription dermal cream

Oh I'm like you - I've spent a fortune over the years! Sadly my menopausal skin is now super sensitive and dry, and I can't take any fragrance at all.

By accident I bought a tub of Liz Earle Superskin unfragranced moisturiser and it's been fantastic. As in, it moisturises, where other creams are too light or too heavy or they sting.

Under it, I use a few drops of almond oil mixed with a couple of essential oils. I also cleanse with this once a week in the shower.

I've seen a real difference with this regime at a difficult time of life!

Retinol
Facial oil - Boots botanics as good as anything more pricey.
Agree exfoliation too- at least twice a week then products sink in.
Tons of water -like another poster have to drink 3 litres a day as prone to kidney stones .
It really does make a difference.

I choose a face cream with a nice texture and for a bit of spf in winter. The stuff that will really improve your skin will probably be in the form of serum or acids.

Northernsoullover · 17/12/2019 20:19

I've been wearing factor 50 every day since I was in my early 20s. Prevention is better than cure!

I am not as dedicated as i should be but my skin is smoother overnight if I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid and Vitamin C.

I think serum is more effective than moisturiser.

As GinisLife says above Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream.
Also SPF & facial oil at night.
Once in a blue moon I may use an aha/glycolic acid toner (even rarer a retinol product) as they do more damage than good as people use them way too much & don't use an SPF after using them.
A BHA product like salicylic acid is gentler on the skin or even a flannel /muslin cloth when washing your face should give you generally enough exfoliation/dead skin & debris removal.

Think of your skin like a leather sofa & how you would keep it beautifully soft & in almost pristine condition by keeping it away from direct sunlight (SPF on humans) & using leather cream or oil to keep it supple/moisturised (face cream/oil for humans)

Nivea Q10 pore reducer and Nivea Q10 day cream. If I use other creams I get outbreaks of spots or my skin looks dry and faded and tired again. For me, it really works. I hate it when the local chemist runs out and I have to use something else. It gives skin real elasticity and it's not greasy at all. I love it. Only just added the pore reduction cream, as my pores have got bigger in middle age. It really works.

I swear by Origins Night a Mins. It’s got AHA/BHA and I wake up smooth and glowing. Boots do a jar for £15, well worth a try.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/12/2019 07:03

I use L'Oreal Paris Reviatlift.
I also like the Eucerin one, but it's more expensive.
I need a rich cream though. What kind of skin do you have OP?

JoanBonJovi · 18/12/2019 07:06

No.
Botox

cptartapp · 18/12/2019 07:11

Paula's Choice Resist intensive moisturiser. Contains vitamin C and Retinol. Really plumps my skin. I alternate it with Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream. No zits, spors or dry skin ever, and very few lines for 47.

MeganRose2014 · 18/12/2019 14:04

Retin a. Start on 0.25 then increas to 0.5% then 1%.
It is prescribed cream but you can purchase online. At first skin looks worse but then your skin will start looking better.
Shea butter is also good as it has lots of vitamin A. As does Argen oil.
Placentric gel also good at reducing wrinkles, fine lines. It is made from placenta and has lots of peptides in.
Remember, skin will not change overnight. It took time for skin to get fine lines etc. Time will reduce them. Also lots of sunscreen spf 50.
You could also invest in a derma roller to help your products absorbed deeper into the dermis and epidermis
Best wishes for Christmas

Everything from Facetheory!

The regenerating moisturiser has transformed my skin. They have a thing on the website where you put in characteristics and it will recommend you products.

Products are all natural, vegan and cruelty free if that appeals to you. And they all come unscented, or naturally scented witb mandarin if you prefer which smells lovely.

Honeybee85 · 18/12/2019 14:11

Estee Lauder Night repair.

Dr Organic Tea Tree day cream helped me with my acne but - just my luck, as always - got discontinued.

I tried once Guerlain moisturizer, Orchidee Imperiale, from a sample.

My skin looked gorgeous and I went back to the cosmetics shop, willing to pay £100-150 pounds for it (I thought it would be along the lines of that price range). It was over £300. Not in a 300 years, as my mum would say.

fairygodbaker · 18/12/2019 14:18

I second the PP who mentioned Alpha H Liquid Gold. So far it's the one thing that smoothens my bumpy combi skin. The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid is good too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Perch · 18/12/2019 14:25

The only eye serum that works (Feels like I have tried them all!) is Dr sebagh eye serum, the red one with the roller ball. I don’t use an entire pump’s dose, about half, and apply with my fingers. Costs around £70 at the airport and lasts 6 months.

For everything else really do try Dermalogica. I mostly use the age smart range. You can buy a starter kit for around £20 that lasts about 10 days. If you buy salon size products on ebay you save a ton of money.

lauryloo · 18/12/2019 14:26

elemis pro collagen marine cream - i love it!

homemadecommunistrussia · 18/12/2019 14:35

Eucerin 5% urea.
I wouldn't be without it now, dd uses it too.

Bojangles33 · 18/12/2019 14:37

Lancôme genifique serum is amazing

Bezalelle · 18/12/2019 20:47

Lidl's Cien day cream with the purple lid is the best cream I've ever used. I use it as a night cream too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/12/2019 20:52

Tbh the biggest difference has been with TBS Drops of Light liquid peel and the matching cream. I'm about to repurchase they are so good.

Also learning how to layer products has made a massive difference,a friend talked me through layering serums, oils, creams etc and when I have winter skin that gets rid of it very quickly.

SecondTimeCharm · 18/12/2019 20:57

The two products I’ve used that had astonishing, visible the next day- type results were both samples, and I could have cried when I looked up the price of the real deal. I use a lot of skincare and these were far and away the best but they’re painfully expensive!

Sisley Black Rose Black Rose Cream Mask
Bioeffect EGF Serum
