Quick Bra help please

I’m usually a 36C but recently have put some weight on and current (fairly old) bras are digging in and leaving marks on my sides/back.

So I’m looking to buy a couple of new ones while I tackle the weight gain. My actual boobs haven’t grown, just a bit of back fat.

So I need help with what bra size to get? I know it isn’t as simple as just getting a 38C but I’m a bit confused as to what I do need.

Thanks if you can help.

booborbust.com could you measure yourself?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 29/11/2019 19:44

That’s the sensible thing to do and actually it is how I measured before. Was just being lazy as I’m ill in bed and doing some online shopping.

Just a thought ... Wouldn’t a bra extender tie you over until you choose a proper bra if the cup size remained the same and it’s the part going around under the bust which feels too tight?

FartnissEverbeans · 29/11/2019 20:33

I was thinking bar extender too

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 29/11/2019 20:37

Off to research one then because I’ve not heard of an extender!

If you're definitely a 36 around your rib cage and it's got too tight but your boobs are the same try a 38b. But 38c could work.
You have to try lots as they come up so differently.

They come with 3 or 2 hooks, most department stores sell them and underwear shops and Amazon and everywhere really in black, white or nude, a lot cheaper than replacing your bras if it’s a temporary measure.

I don’t like to pour cold water on someone else’s sugestion but I don’t think extenders provide the right level of hold or support.

And outline tgtough clotges also looks double bulky.

DieSchottin93 · 30/11/2019 15:30

Measure using the Boob Or Bust calculator like @dementedpixie suggested and go from there. You might find you need a smaller band and bigger cup.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 15:41

Def don’t need a smaller band! My current ones are cutting in to my sides.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 15:53

They can cut in if the cup is too small as the breast tissue 'steals' inches from the back making it feel tighter. What dress size are you?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 16:05

I’m a 20

OP posts:
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 16:06

But I’m smaller up top, carry most of my weight in my bottom half.

dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 16:08

I'm a 20/22 on top and have the same back size but a bigger cup (36GG). Have you tried measuring yet?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 16:15

I have just measured - 37 and 43 which makes them sound bigger than they are! I only have little ones!

OP posts:
swapsicles · 30/11/2019 16:18

George at Asda do cheap but decent bras. I'm size 16/ 18 and boob or bust says I'm 34 gg. However I cannot stand the tightness of a 34 and instead go for a 36f/g depending on the bra, a simple one at Asda is £4, it does the job and comes in plenty of colours .

dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 16:18

You should be trying around 36E, 36F then

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 16:20

Noooo! Honestly, they are little. You’d laugh if you saw me trying that size.

Love a £4 bra, thanks I’ll take a look.

dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 16:24

It's an extra cup size for each inch difference between the back and cup size. There are 6 or 7 inches difference giving E or F cup. A, B, C, D, DD, E, F.

Your bra will feel tight as there isn't enough room for your breasts to fit in the C cup

DieSchottin93 · 30/11/2019 16:58

@dementedpixie is correct, wearing a bra that is too small in the cup and too big in the band means your boobs basically escape from the cup into the band and that is what causes the tightness, so the majority of women mistakenly think they need to increase their band size. Try and bigger cup size first and make sure you have a good swoop and scoop (you have to reach as far round as possible), you may be surprised with the results Smile

dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 17:13

M&S used to measure me as 40C but im actually around a 36GG/H which is quite a big difference!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/11/2019 17:17

I get the theory, I really do! But honestly I have small breasts. I’ve seen an E/F cup and I would never fill those. I might online order a few and send the wrong ones back.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 30/11/2019 17:19

But not all E cups are the same as the cup size is relative to the back size e.g. a 34E cup size is smaller than a 38E cup size.
