Help! My eyebrows are disappearing!

Well getting older is a complete joy isn't it? Whilst my chin is quite happy to sprout hair and my pubes march down my legs my eyebrows are becoming non existent. I've looked at brow products but quite frankly they confuse me. Semi permanent makeup scares me. What are my options here? Help! Grin

Get your thyroid checked - losing eyebrows can be a sign that there is a problem there and it often hits women about menopause time.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 09:06

Well I did not know that LittleCandle. A quick google would suggest its not that though, I don't have any of the other symptoms and my eyebrows are thickest at the edges, I have just read that's where they would be thinning for thyroid issues. But thanks for mentioning it, you never know!

I second getting your thyroid checked - and in the meantime I would suggest a brow powder. My brows are naturally sparse but nobody knows unless they see me first thing in the morning!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/11/2019 09:07

I would definitely get them tinted, with the dye they can get all the little hairs that you can’t normally see and make them look a lot fuller.

I also really recommend the benefit brow gel. It’s very quick and easy to use, you just brush it through your eyebrows like a little mascara but the gel contains fibres so it gives the appearance of more hair.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 09:11

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a similar issue and do exactly what spuriouser suggested :)

My local Superdrug has a good walk In brow bar which I find more convenient than booking a beautician and they do a great tint job

Moominfan · 23/11/2019 09:14

Mine are pretty much gone. Last year I had them microbladed and it's the best £150 I've ever spent. Had to draw them on every day. Terrified of of smudging ect.

queenrollo · 23/11/2019 09:19

I saved up and had microblading too. I took ages to find a practitioner I was really happy with, because I wanted as natural a look as possible.
I always had very strong brows, and losing them made me look so ill. I don't wear make-up daily so having my brows done instantly made me look so much better.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 09:41

Moominfan and queenrollo maybe this is the route I need to take, but I am so scared that it will look awful. There's only so much drawing on I can do because you end up drawing on skin where there's no hair. Any advice on how to find someone really good to do the microblading? And how often does it need redoing? Thanks

Mine are sparse but I've grown a fringe so nobody notices.

Apileofballyhoo · 23/11/2019 09:59

Peptides might be your friend here, OP. I had 'Buffet' from The Ordinary and it had a hair growth effect on eyelashes and eyebrows (and peach fuzz so I gave up using it). It's a skin care product but there are specific hair growth products.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 10:53

Ooh never heard of peptides, I will have a look thanks

I have ridiculously sparse eyebrows and use black Just for Men beard dye on mine - really cheap, colours the small hairs that you can’t usually see, gives a much deeper colour than other dyes I’ve brought in Boots etc. I do it once a week/fortnight-ish and it looks pretty natural.

Moominfan · 23/11/2019 14:47

Look at their work, most post on social media so find someone who you like. Before they do it they draw on a draft so to speak :) gives you a chance to change anything before it's done properly

Gingin65 · 23/11/2019 15:00

Check out the benefits of Castor Oil for your lashes and eyebrows. I’ve used it on and off for a couple of years 😊

Chattybum · 23/11/2019 15:09

My mum had this, completely lost the thicker part of one eyebrow and the other thinned considerably. Stress induced alopecia! She was caring for my very ill grandmother at the time. The eyebrows never came back so now she has had them semi permanently tattooed and they look pretty good once they settle down.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 15:23

Thanks for the replies. I am seriously considering microblading now. Just terrified of getting stuck with hideous sharpie brows. I'm in Hampshire nearish to Portsmouth if anyone has any recommendations! Will check out Facebook too. Thanks.

Dyed a few times per year. A light brown. When I remember!

I wouldn't consider micro blading myself only because I don't want to end up with Cara Delvine eyebrows and I'm not very keen on the micro blading end product - how unnatural it looks.

mrsbyers · 23/11/2019 15:38

I’ve had mine microbladed , you’d never be able to tell they weren’t real just filled out to a normal shape to suit my eyes - I paid £300 for mine but she is regarded as the best in the area and worth every penny

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 15:42

Trouble is if I just dye them they are still not long/wide enough if that makes sense. I have lost hair in between and above at the end closest to my nose and they are not thick enough to have a good shape naturally.

Bought! Aargh!

Karmatime · 23/11/2019 16:26

Rapidlash works, takes a few weeks but it does make a difference if the cause is just thinning from ageing.
Revitalash is great too but crazy expensive.

lexiepuppy · 23/11/2019 20:27

My eyebrows fell out 4 years ago with stress, I also lost about half of an inch of hair at the front and my body hair stopped growing. I had biopsies taken and I was told I have a form of alopecia. (Frontal fibrosising alopecia). I had eyebrows micro bladed on a couple of years ago and they have stopped me looking like an alien!

Belindabelle · 23/11/2019 20:58

After suffering with very sparse eyebrows for years I am going for microblading on Tuesday. I have been dithering about it for ages but I have finally got up the nerve.

You get it done then go back in 4/6 weeks for a top up. After that you get it re done every 12-18 months. Apparently it looks really dark at first then it almost disappears. It takes about 2 weeks to fully heal and for the full effect to be seen.

I am going for a very natural stroke effect. The slug look favoured by the young is achieved by a technique called shading. This gives a more solid look which I want to avoid.

HeatedDryer · 23/11/2019 21:34

@Belindabelle oh good luck you are very brave! I hope you are really pleased with the results. Let me know how it goes.
@lexiepuppy sorry to hear that, sounds awful. I'm really pleased that microblading has helped.
