Quick! Is a tucked in blouse acceptable?

I don't really do office wear but I'm attending an event tomorrow which requires a professional appearance, and I really want to look stylish.

I've got an excellent polyester blouse and good, flat fronted trousers. In a moment of madness tonight I tucked the blouse in, and thought I looked pretty cool.

But did I? I'm 48 and I've only ever worn things untucked (apart from in the 80s when everything including chunky jumpers went right in to your high waist jeans)

Aaaaargh! Advice please?

I think tucked in is fine!

MorrisZapp · 19/11/2019 21:17

I think what's stopping me a bit is that I feel its showing off my arse? Will people think that?

Bluntness100 · 19/11/2019 21:18

No no one would think that Confused that's a really odd thing to think.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/11/2019 21:19

tuck in front, leave out the back?

ncqtime · 19/11/2019 21:19

See the apprentice candidates they all go for a tucked in look

RaymondStopThat · 19/11/2019 21:19

Tucked in will be fine. Noone will think that.

MaureenSowerbutts · 19/11/2019 21:20

Tuck in definitely!

MorrisZapp · 19/11/2019 21:20

Ooh I'm going to Google apprentice candidates

Tucked in is "in" right now. You will look fine.

Or if you want to be super-trendy, try the half-tuck, where you just tuck the front in, and leave the back a little looser.

IfNot · 19/11/2019 21:21

Tuck in! Show off your arse Morris, why not?Grin

PullingMySocksUp · 19/11/2019 21:22

They’re definitely tucked in at the moment.

MorrisZapp · 19/11/2019 21:22

Right. I'm tucking! Seriously, this is revolutionary

OP posts:
IfNot · 19/11/2019 21:23

Woo hoo!

MorrisZapp · 19/11/2019 21:23

I'm worried the half tuck will resemble a hasty toilet dash :)

tuck in front, leave out the back?
Called a 'french tuck', I believe.

MeadowHay · 19/11/2019 21:24

I usually tuck shirts/blouses in at work. I work in an office. Think it looks fine and nobody has ever suggested otherwise. DH would tell me if he thought I looked daft.

MorrisZapp · 19/11/2019 21:25

There's a 'J Crew roll' too, but that's shirt sleeves

OP posts:
KatharinaRosalie · 19/11/2019 21:26

Give the half one a try. I find it really flattering.

ememem84 · 19/11/2019 21:27

I felt awfully on trend the other day. J crew rolled my sleeves and French tucked.

Redcrayons · 19/11/2019 21:30

Tucked in, looks much smarter.

I do love the French tuck look, but it’s a fine line between insta-cool and scruffy year 11.

Floisme · 19/11/2019 22:20

I noticed Kylie was tucking in at Glastonbury this summer (the first outfit she wore). Kylie knows.
I say that with some regret as I've never, ever been able to keep my shirt tucked in so I've bloody loved this half tuck trend. But I think my time's up.

StarlightLady · 20/11/2019 05:38

Will tucked in with a wide belt work with the outfit? Not sure about the half tuck.

OMGshefoundmeout · 20/11/2019 07:14

One look at any fashion magazine confirms tucked in is definitely the stylish look atm. Sadly for a big boobed, big bellied, middle aged hobbit like me it’s a look that makes me look like a pillow tied in the middle so I will continue living my life untucked.

AuntieStella · 20/11/2019 07:22

Tucked in is fine.

It was the universal professional norm, and is still seen in the more formal workplaces. Which gives it extra clout as it can say 'traditional, higher status, learned' etc

Bluntness100 · 20/11/2019 07:37

The "French" tuck look is fine with a pair of jeans or casual, but not in a professional business attire environment, you just look like a school kid who forgot to tuck their shirt in at the back..
