Can you get a bikini wax when on your period?

I know I can - physically, and that maybe I just might be more sensitive/need paracetamol etc. But I mean can I, in a "is if socially acceptable" sort of way? Will the beautician be repulsed? Usual stuff - I'm very clean, will shower first, have a tampon in etc. But the few times I've done it before it's always been a "pants totally off" thing and I'm just a bit unsure about whether it's acceptable or not.

General thoughts?!

I’ve done it before with a mooncup in- much more painful though

BasicMadeira · 18/11/2019 20:53

You can but it hurts a lot. Have not had a full wax while on my period but extended bikini was fine. Any external, ahem, evidence, was tucked away and as a courtesy I warned the beautician.

TheBrilloPad · 18/11/2019 20:56

I don't own a mooncup, so that's not an option. Gahhhh, I have the opportunity for possible sex this weekend for the first time in 2years, and tomorrow is my only chance for a wax. If I go somewhere new (that I won't ever return to after!) and am generally clean, and willing to tolerate the pain, is it ok then? Not too frowned upon and she won't bitch about me when I leave?!

Just tuck the string up inside and you’ll be finw

You can have sex without waxing.

Napqueen1234 · 18/11/2019 21:01

You can but as @weirdsmell says don’t feel you need to be freshly waxed to have sex. As a sexual health nurse my main realisation is most women are less groomed than you think and actually it’s far more normal than a completely bald fanny!

doadeer · 18/11/2019 21:02

I have at the end of a period I wouldn't on the first couple of days. I just tucked the string right up and they provide wipes at my salon too for added peace of mind. I didn't notice it anymore painful to be honest.

carrots555 · 18/11/2019 21:04

Can you not just shave on the day in question?

Lhastingsmua · 18/11/2019 21:20

Just use common sense - heavy flow would be an absolute no but a light one might be manageable.

If you really can’t get a wax at any other time beforehand, just use an alternative hair removal method.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/11/2019 21:24

haha OP
I've just looked at your user name and post and had a snort of laughter-coincidence or name change for the post? Grin
Surely it's not that bad???

DianaT1969 · 18/11/2019 21:24

I just had the disturbing image of a piece of wax getting hold of the tampon string and the tampon being ripped out at speed 😳

ViserionTheDragon · 18/11/2019 21:43

Perhaps if you did a 'hot wax' like Lycon, it would be a lot less painful. I would probably wait until after your period though.

1984in2019 · 18/11/2019 21:56

Is your weekend offer conditional on you undergoing this painful (not to mention inconvenient) procedure? Weird.

avocuddl · 18/11/2019 21:58

I have had before and it was absolutely fine. Hot wax though so not usually painful anyway.

ViserionTheDragon · 18/11/2019 22:02

Just read your second post OP. Definitelg find a salon that does hot wax in that case!

MyHairNeedsASnip · 18/11/2019 22:08

The place where I go says it's fine in their T&C's. Have a look at a few places online and see if it's mentioned?

Lhastingsmua · 18/11/2019 22:14

Best thing to do would be inform the salon and get their advice. It seems like it’s probably okay as long as you’re not wearing a pad and you let them know.

I think most salons use hot wax in the bikini area as it’s better suited to the type of hair. I reckon there’s 0 chance of a tampon string being yanked out, that just wouldn’t happen. More likely that the beautician would just ask you to hold the string out of the way.

mintcorneto · 18/11/2019 22:14

You can have sex without waxing.

Clearly she doesn't want to though?

StarlightLady · 19/11/2019 05:22

In practical terms, unless you are really heavy and flooding, you’ll be fine. In comfort terms, you will notice it more, but no worse than just before a period.

Enjoy the weekend. And for those who crticise your personal choices, waxing increases the sensitivity!

joystir59 · 19/11/2019 05:32

Just trim your pubic hair yourself. Why do women now feel obliged to have hairless childlike sex organs? How is that sexy?

CurlyTwirlyTwos · 19/11/2019 06:40

You can snip the tampon string shorter, so it doesn't get in the way!

I (wistfully) remember remember the early days, when I get groomed before dates, and the anticipation for some bedroom action!

Total opposite these days 😂. Enjoy the weekend!

StarlightLady · 19/11/2019 08:13

Here we go again. Myself and others do not feel obliged to do anything. Some, in fact many of us, choose not to have pubic hair, my vulva does not resemble that of a child. I choose not to have hairy armpits or legs but my body does not resemble the shape of a child.

I have male friends who shave their faces, that doesn’t make them childlike either.

TheBrilloPad · 20/11/2019 11:21

In case anyone cares or later finds this thread when wanting to ask the same thing - it was totally fine. No more painful than when I've had it done any other time. Showered before I went, fresh tampon in. Beautician couldn't have cared less and didn't bat an eyelid, it was a complete non-issue, and she easily worked around it/moved the string out the way etc.

Good for you @TheBrilloPad. Not sure why a simple questions turns into "why do you need to wax to have sex" lol. Some like to be hairy, others not FFS.

I've not had to worry recently as I have a Mirena so no periods but before that, as I get waxed as part of my routine beauty treatments, sometime it fell when I had my period so I did like you although I just tucked the string in which was fine.

Beauticians wax customers there so often , as you say they don't bat an eyelid lol

Talcott2007 · 20/11/2019 12:32

This has just reminded me of reading a Reddit style AMA compilation where aestheticians were describing their worst experiences with clients and there was one was about how they were doing a bikini wax the clients tampon string got stuck to the wax and as she ripped it off it pulled her tampon right out of her to spatter like a water balloon against the couch !!
