Country Boots

I need to replace a well loved pair of knee high tan leather boots that have sadly worn out. I'd really like to get a pair that will last many years and I'm happy to make an investment but I don't want to pay just for a brand name. Does anyone have any recommendations?

For context we live in the suburbs but spend a lot of time on country walks/national trust/cottage UK holidays.

I have Dublin river boots and they are lovely .

79abbot · 16/11/2019 20:26

Dubarry boots are my favourite. They last a long time!

Oneforposy7 · 16/11/2019 20:32

Oh thank you both. I've been looking at both those boots today so I'm glad to hear they're both good choices!

Tuffa are my favourite - and can ride in them as well.

Ftumch · 16/11/2019 20:34

I have a pair from sports direct that are the same style as Dublin/ Dubarry and cost about £70. They've been going for three winters of heavy dog walking and are still in good nick.

I have a tan suede pair of knee high boots from Joules that are excellent copies of the Fair Fax and Favour explorers.
Depending on your budget either are good

Musicforsnorks · 16/11/2019 21:02

I’m in the lakes, can’t stand joules, quality took a nose dive long ago. Would avoid unless eager to fit a niche.
Mountain warehouse is at least fit for purpose Grin

I use dubarry or doc martens. Never had issue with either and both last forever.

Musicforsnorks · 16/11/2019 21:08

Ok that really reads as snotty.
Was not meant to!
Mountain warehouse , dubarry, etc, all ok.
I find joules wellies are fine but everything else recently seems to have gone cheap and polyester. A bit fashion if you see what I mean.

Oneforposy7 · 16/11/2019 21:10

Thanks everyone! Great ideas.

@musicforsnacks I know exactly what you mean and it sparked my question. I liked the look of a pair from Joules but felt like it was more fashion than purpose and I want something to last.

I've just got a pair of gortex boots from Clarks outlet. They're really warm and they look neat not clumpy. Can fit skinny jeans down them too. Will try to find a link.

Dublin River Boots, anything Ariat. Dubarry are naff and the soles fall off-utter crap and have become rather Towie.

Majorcollywobble · 16/11/2019 22:02

Had a pair of Dubarrys and they lasted about five years before leaking . That was without a lick of polish - ever . If you look after them they last longer but are pretty heavy to walk in . @Ftumch
I’m off to Sports Direct to look at your recommendation.

Alwayscheerful · 17/11/2019 22:34

This years Fairfax and favour explorers are waterproof, previous model won boot of the year but was only classified as water resistant. Much better than Dubarrys.

SaveTheTreesPlease · 17/11/2019 22:35

Dubarrys here. I wear them to death and I’ve had the same pair for nearly a decade (re-soled twice and still going strong)

Silverstreaks · 17/11/2019 23:14

I've had Dublin River Pinnacle which were good while they lasted. Now I using Kanyon Gorse rider which are very sturdy but comfortable. Good waterproofing in this torrential weather. Pretty striped lining too.

AnyFucker · 17/11/2019 23:17

I like those Clarks ones

Also Muck boots are pretty good and quite trendy looking

Lalalalalalalalaland · 17/11/2019 23:20

Dublin river boots. I am horsey and lazy amso boots constantly muddy and mine are still going strong

ClientListQueen · 17/11/2019 23:20

My ariat grasmere boots refuse to die. I barely clean them, I've waded through snow, mud, horse muck, mucked out stables in them, ridden in them and they're still going. If I clean them they look lovely still and they're the only boots I find not slippy on ice too. Not sure how old they are but they're at least 7 years old

Oneforposy7 · 17/11/2019 23:30

Thanks so much for all the recommendations!

Having checked the grasmere ones, I actually bought them in 2009 Shock so I will definitely be buying another pair when they give up. They're not the cheapest but for how long they've lasted and they're like slippers from day 1

I did have a Rydale pair but can't remember much about them. Dublin ones didn't last for me at all, the lining ripped and there was an unfortunate boot stuck on foot incident

AnyFucker · 17/11/2019 23:44

Are they waterproof ?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 17/11/2019 23:46

Another vote for Dublin River boots here too. Love mine!
