Country Boots

I need to replace a well loved pair of knee high tan leather boots that have sadly worn out. I'd really like to get a pair that will last many years and I'm happy to make an investment but I don't want to pay just for a brand name. Does anyone have any recommendations?

For context we live in the suburbs but spend a lot of time on country walks/national trust/cottage UK holidays.

@anyfucker reviews suggest they are once they've had a waterproofing spray.

The Dublin and tuffa ones are waterproof enough for day to day use but give up after a few hours in long wet grass.

Dubarrys I have never had as i use and abuse boots daily and go though a pair a year - though current Dublin ones are refusing to die after 2 1/2 years.

I’ve got Dublin boots, I usually destroy footwear within a year but Dublin boots are tough (the jodhpur boots are great too) I’ve had them 5 years. I wouldn’t get the rydale boots. The sweatshirts and coats are good but boots and wellies are not

Dublin river boots or Ariat Windermere are my 2 faves - both lasted me years without any care or TLC

Oneforposy7 · 18/11/2019 10:24

Thank you- Dublin boots are definitely looking like the front runner.

I've got Dublin river boots and a pair of dubarrys. If I was to have to choose just one, I would probably get the Dublin's - they are as comfortable, easier to get on and off and were about half the price of the dubarrys.

That said, the dubarrys are goretex. Mine are about four years old and as good as new (I don't look after them either). My Dublin's started leaking after a couple of years.

We have horses, so boots take a battering

I had Dubarry and they were rubbish. Sole fell off after about 6 months

I have Muck Boots now, they’re heading into their 3rd winter and apart from being plastered in mud, they’re as good as new.

DD has a brilliant pair from Ariat - can’t remember which ones but she can ride in them as well.

I’ve got a pair of Ariat Windermere’s, I love them, really comfortable and keep my feet warm.

LlamaofDrama · 18/11/2019 14:59

I'm appreciating these recommendations. I used to ride, don't any more but still doi a lot of country walking. I've killed wellies st a rate of a pair a year recently and it's very annoying. Joules lasted less than a year (got my money back on those), havaianas only lasted a year, now on my second pair from Asda as they don't last any longer but at last they're cheap! Will check out the Rydales and Sports Direct.

I've had a pair of Ariat Grasmeres for 3 years now, worn pretty regularly in all weathers. They're fab. Maybe a little heavy, but warm & waterproof & still in good nick.

katmunchkin · 23/11/2019 22:15

I have some Toggi Canyons which are like slippers!

WokingPizza · 24/11/2019 11:23

Are Ariat lessening in quality now they are being sold in Sports Direct? Seems a strange decision on Ariat's behalf.

Greenvalleymama · 24/11/2019 11:40

I've had a pair of the Kanyon Gorse waterproof riding boots for about five years, they cost me about £100 and they're still going strong. Dubarry's (and some of the other country boots Ive seen) go baggy at the ankle after a while, which looks awful whereas the Kanyon dont.

I tried loads on recently, ranging in prices from £70 - £350. I just couldnt find any that fit nice, looked ok and were comfy. After going to a local tack shop to try some more, the lady recommended some neoprene wellies. They are lovely, so comfy and warm. They are exactly what I was looking for!
Hope you get sorted with some.

WokingPizza · 24/11/2019 17:28

@User07. What make are they and can you drive in them?

WokingPizza · 24/11/2019 17:29

@User07. Also are they OK with slippery surfaces?

User07 · 24/11/2019 18:09

@wokingpizza
They are actually a make I hadnt heard of but they are crosslander wellies. I did look online but could not find much about them. My local tack shop had them on a introductory offer from £80 to £55.
I can drive in them, I could not drive in my very old hunters. These seem to fit more snuggly for me so Im not flopping around in them.
I haven't really had chance to wear on slippery surfaces as they are fairly new so have tried on ice etc but the treds seem great, fab in mud etc
Hope that helps

WokingPizza · 24/11/2019 19:19

@User07 Many thanks. I can't find them, did you mean neoprene lined?

User07 · 24/11/2019 19:32

@wokingpizza yes I did sorry!

WokingPizza · 24/11/2019 20:44

Ah, OK, thank you! @User07
