Need a new cleanser for sensitive skin

Help! I have been using liz Earle cleanse and polish and their related products for my skin for 5 years or so, I have recently been having allergic reactions and I think I’ve narrowed it down to the cleanse and polish causing the reactions.

I know I am allergic to methylchloroisothianozole, and I react to products which do not state this as an ingredient, so there are unknown allergens as well.

Does anyone have any skin care recommendations for someone with allergies. I am desperate at the moment, my skin is hot, itchy and I look awful.

I use dermelogica ultra calming range. I find it amazing for my excema/sensitive skin

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/11/2019 20:52

The cleanser/face wash from Haeckels is great for sensitive skin. All natural ingredients, super-ethical, only tested on humans rather than animals etc. They're a small business with strong ethics (for example, they were approached to supply one of the major airlines with their products and they declined).

You only need a tiny amount of the cleanser. I use it with a Konjac sponge.

La Roche Posay toleriane dermo-cleanser and Avene tolerance extreme cleanser are both good, gentle options (though you’ll have to check about the methylchloroisothianozole because I have no idea if they have that in). Affordable and sold in most Boots.

Both the toleriane and the tolerance extreme ranges have various moisturisers and eye creams if you also need those.

HeronLanyon · 12/11/2019 20:57

Simple.

frugalkitty · 12/11/2019 21:00

Try Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser, it's the mildest one I've found and fab when skin is misbehaving.

dodgynoodles · 12/11/2019 21:00

Trilogy sensitive cleanser and moisturiser is amazing. It really calms my skin and was the only thing I could use while I was on roaccutane

pontiouspilates · 12/11/2019 21:02

I also started having a reaction to Liz Earle, it flared up my rosacea. I'm now using Tropics cleanser and moisturer and absolutely love it.

BlingLoving · 12/11/2019 21:06

Have you tried just using an oil? I use pure almond oil. Try googling oil cleansing method to check which is the best oil for sensitive skin. Mine is v dry so I sometimes add a little caster oil.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 12/11/2019 21:06

Hmm.. I’m struggling with my skin recently and I’m now wondering whether I should take a break from Liz Earle!

Palendrominca · 12/11/2019 21:14

Thanks for all the recommendations, I am having a look at all of them. I wonder if any of the brands would send me a sample so I could do a patch test?

I have tried chia oil, but just in desperation as a moisturiser whilst suffering the reactions, I think I was still using the cleanse and polish at the time, so I’ll look into that.

coolcoolcool... It has taken me about 10 weeks or so to figure it out, as I thought it was makeup or shampoo at first (the usual suspects), so could be worth a break from it just to rule it out.

I second the La Roche Posay Toleriane line. (I like the Avene line as well, but think the LRP line has slightly fewer irritating ingredients.) For removing makeup, I use their Lipikar cleansing oil, which isn’t really an oil, but a high-lipid shower-gel/shampoo, etc for those with extremely sensitive skins. It feels like an oil until water is added, then it gently lathers and rondes clear. I find it removes everything. (And I live in Australia and use many layers of sunscreen.) I have sensitive skin and I don’t want to say I’ve cured my rosacea, but I haven’t had a break out for about three years. (Also no clogging!!!!)

LellyMcKelly · 13/11/2019 02:04

I’ve Ben using Body Shop’s aloe Vera range on very sensitive rosacea type skin and it has helped enormously.

Laquila · 13/11/2019 12:12

I have very sensitive skin and have recently had the full battery of allergy patch testing, so now at leat I know what to avoid.

I second the recap for LRP Toleriane and the Avene Extremely Gentle cleanser (personally I prefer the latter at the mo) but I also love cleansing oils, if you can find he right one for your skin, and I particularly love the one from Superfacialist - I think it’s the Vitamin C one. I find it very gentle and non-irritating.

If you’re after a bland but effective repair cream then I HIGHLY recommend the LRP Cica Baume, which I bought after seeing it recommended here. It’s thick but sinks in quickly enough to be used as a moisturiser and I am obsessed with it!!

justilou1 · 13/11/2019 22:01

The French certainly do know their skincare! Just wanted to add in the very-hyped Cerave hydrating cleanser isn’t very good at removing makeup and sunscreen. Probably fine for a morning cleanse, but I found it very reminiscent of Cetaphil. (Virtually useless.)

justilou1 · 13/11/2019 22:06

Also, don’t be surprised if your shampoo and conditioner are causing skin issues as well. Especially if you have seborrheic dermatitis or rosacea-types of conditions. Skin is skin, and shampoo and conditioner goes everywhere. It’s very difficult to find effective ones that are non-irritating. (I live in Aus, so the ones I would recommend are probably unavailable there.) I know that I avoid silicones at all costs as they tend to “trap” irritants on my scalp and anywhere my hair touches my face or neck. Once I worked that out (and went through the inevitable period of adjustment to using products without silicones) my hair has thickened up, and the issues with congestion under my fringe and on there back of my neck have cleared completely.

riotlady · 13/11/2019 22:10

I use ultra bland from Lush, it’s so soothing.

MidnightMystery · 13/11/2019 22:22

Aloe Vera gel worked wonders for me!

Popuppippa · 13/11/2019 22:30

Cetaphil

I had terrible rosacea developing and Cetaphil plus Soolantra transformed my skin.

I use Cetaphil to remove makeup/eye makeup with cotton wool pad or a tissue then cleanse/rinse with lukewarm water.

It's so much cheaper than my previous regime too.

Destinysdaughter · 13/11/2019 23:34

Body shop Chamomile cleansing oil is good and v gentle on my sensitive skin

Tinyandpetite · 14/11/2019 01:55

I also agree on the body shop chamomile oil, really helped my sensitive/acne skin

QueenOfIce · 14/11/2019 22:21

Another thumbs up for the bodyshop chamomile, I use the balm my skin looks and feels lovely.

CalmDownConan · 15/11/2019 05:47

Another vote for La Roche Posay Toleriane. I was prescribed it by a dermatologist to help clear up my stress eczema, but I've always had sensitive skin. This is lovely and I've had no problems. Best of luck.

My absolute favourite is Ren... I think its called ever calm milk cleanser. Smells amazing

When I'm a budget its la Roche posay or cerave

None remove makeup properly but I use then as a second Cleanse. (i take my makeup off with la Roche posay micellar water)

stoplickingthetelly · 15/11/2019 16:44

My skin doesn’t like a lot of scent and I’ve been getting on well with Clinique take the day off.

totallyradllama · 15/11/2019 16:51

I have just bought dd the body shop camomile range as a gift. Can pp who use the balm version say how they use it?
