Dry lips (crusting and disgusting). What's the answer?

Has anyone got a miracle solution for cracked, dry lips, either temporary or permanent? This weather plus central heating makes mine look awful. I must have spent hundreds of pounds on various lip balms/ointments/creams over the years to no avail. I know about keeping hydrated but I still crack! TIA.

Definitely drink more water, you will be amazed.

Polypsporin lip health is the only thing that helps me, not sure if it’s available in the UK though, it’s made by Johnson and Johnson.

Drink more water.

I tried everything for this (and had so.e prescription from the doctor). Pnly thing that worked for me was Eucerin-was magic and now always have several tubes on the go. I get it from boots-usually in the expensive-ish brand skincare aisle of the bigger ones.

Best thing I've found is stuff called Climb On. It's a solid bar of beeswax based moisturizer for climbers' fingertips, but it works wonders on dry and chapped lips. Also amazing to protect your nose and top lip when you have a cold, and for chapping. Comes in a little round tin - expensive but will last for a couple of years...

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm is fab. I now use it every evening at bed time and it keeps my lips soft. I'm a bit obsessed with lip balm but hate anything too greasy. It's pricey but it lasts forever

Could it be your toothpaste? Some brands really affect my lips.

MaggieFS · 12/11/2019 06:09

Blistex to repair them and then once they are ok, a thick coating of Vaseline every night which will act as a barrier

YY to Bepanthen nappy rash cream. Saw this recommended on another thread, tried it a few days ago in a similar situation.

I also like Burt’s Bees, but not sure if it’s any good as “recovery” as well as “maintenance”.

Another vote for Nuxe's 'Reve de Miel', the pot not the stick. I have tried most of the other products recommended here and nothing else comes close. My lips would crack and bleed when I smiled and this sorted it

Lottiebugz22 · 12/11/2019 16:15

Aquaphor

A third vote for Nuxe's Reve de Miel. It's the business.

I would suggest though that if you can brave going a couple of weeks with nothing then do. I always find that using lip ointments of almost any kind become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I use the above if the weather is spectacularly bad (I live right next to the Baltic Sea and it's horrific at times in the winter), but otherwise I avoid everything as in the end I need more of it-like heroin!
