I need gift inspiration for a super trendy fashionable person.

Hello!

I need help buying my sister in law a birthday present. My budget is around £50-80. She is so lovely and always buys my kids such thoughtful gifts but I can't think what to get her as while I love clothes and beauty etc our styles are poles apart.

She is much younger than me - early 20s and she is super on trend (think those eyebrows that are in, pointy nails and often a undercut in her hair - I often think she would look amazing in a girl band) and I just have no idea. If it were up to me I'd treat her to a voucher so she could go choose what she likes but DH says vouchers are thoughtless.

Anything I think of either seems mumsy or a bit personal - like jewellery, beauty stuff - everyone's likes and tastes are different!

Any ideas or suggestions of websites I can browse?

Vouchers are only thoughtless if you put no effort in. If you try and find out where she shops or gets her hair/nails done it isn't.

Do you know if she does her own nails? My DD is similar to how you describe your SIL and she does her own nails - she loves Opi nail products. Do you know what perfume she likes?

Also, has she got other interests? Reading, cinema, a hobby? Does it have to be something clothes/beauty related?

Thank you! I will do some digging and see what I can discover. Some really helpful ideas for me to investigate - thank you!

Make up? You could go for Urban Decay-it's quite a young but nice brand and their stuff is good.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/11/2019 21:57

What about a blouse from Palones? They're a new London label/designer (only been around since Sept) and were recommended by Vogue in the first week. They're just been recommended by The Sunday Times Style Guide and they're starting to be picked up by more press/magazines/bloggers. They're also sustainable and make limited edition clothes so they hit all the boxes for being hip.

Most things are above your budget but this beautiful on-trend blouse scrapes in at £75.

To be honest though, your SIL sounds more TOWIE than fashion forward with the eyebrows and nails so maybe Palones isn't right for her.?

I’m the same age as her and would absolutely consider myself fashionable. I’m going to be honest, a voucher is the best gift at your budget. It’s not thoughtless at all, chances are she’s got a long list of items she’s already interested in but wouldn’t necessarily buy for herself - a voucher would allow her to actually buy one of those items rather than something random she won’t use/like.

There are certain items that are general crowd pleasers, like a Gucci belt or a Louis Vuitton card holder (which are out of your budget). At your budget you could try makeup (eg a Huda Beauty palette) or a small bottle of perfume but as you said, beauty preferences are personal and you might not buy something she likes!

Lhastingsmua · 06/11/2019 22:10

I don’t think you should buy clothes for her present either.

SyrilSneer · 06/11/2019 22:13

Have a look on Cult Beauty. She might like the Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde eyeshadow palette which is £56.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/11/2019 22:57

I’d spend £20 on Chanel Rouge Noir nail polish, then give her a £50 ASOS voucher. ASOS carry so many brands, including makeup, that she is bound to find something nice, and RN is a classic.

floffel · 07/11/2019 03:25

How about a digital or hard copy subscription to har favourite magazines?

Or a night in a hotel so she could attend a fashion event? E.g Pure London is happening in early Feb at Olympia

I need gift inspiration for a super trendy fashionable person.
Sunflower20 · 07/11/2019 04:08

Just get her some Aesop products

sunshinegirl13 · 07/11/2019 04:43

I’m 24 and ‘trendy’ and the best brands/things at the moment are:

1 - Huda beauty (particularly their eyeshadows. Very good formula with wide range of colours in each palette release)

2 - Anastasia Beverly Hills (eyeshadow or liquid lipsticks)

3 - I would love a cult beauty or beauty bay gift card

4- ASOS gift card (as they stock a lot of brands)

5 - accessories from skinny dip London (phone cases, jewellery and make up bags)

I also recommended watching fashion and beauty YouTubers for inspiration as they’re usually on trend and you can probably find one with a matching personality to your sister. Look for hauls, what I got for my birthday or try on videos. I hope this helps!

sunshinegirl13 · 07/11/2019 04:48

Also if you’re worried about a gift card being a bit impersonal you can always incorporate it into a gift hamper filled with goodies you know she likes, such as chocolates, sweets, pyjamas, beauty and pamper products and maybe one gift card or a small selection adding to the amount you wish to spend and then place it in a nice hamper wrapped with cellophane!

Chottie · 07/11/2019 04:58

I would give a gift card too (wrapped up with a posh bar of chocolate). I don't think that is an impersonal gift. IMO it's much better to allow the person to buy exactly what they want rather then choosing something they don't really want / like.

RuggyPeg · 07/11/2019 05:54

Given that your husband has such strong views about her present, how about he take on the responsibility of buying his own sister something.

shinynewapple · 07/11/2019 09:46

Agree with posters saying ASOS voucher plus small classic luxury item .

I certainly wouldn't buy clothing.

Sooverthemill · 07/11/2019 10:30

I agree with idea of giving small gift eg an Essie winter nail varnish or a cult favourite like Chanel le Vernis along with an ASOS voucher. My DD is 26 and would be thrilled to choose something rather than have to ask for the receipt to exchange it!

BlobbyTheLump · 07/11/2019 12:23

I also agree with the idea of a personal gift plus a gift card
I wouldn't get her a nail varnish though, if she gets her nails done there's little chance she'll actually use it.

BBBear · 07/11/2019 18:17

Ask her what she wants - tell her your budget and she can send you a link

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2019 19:18

Not a hamper, not clothing.

Definitely agree with one 'classic' beauty item, and a voucher - maybe Selfridges? Maybe an Urban Decay mini Naked palette, or their fixing spray (or whatever it's called!)?

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 07/11/2019 19:25

Do you follow her on instagram? You could scroll through and see which brands she follows for ideas.

ReginaGeorgeous · 07/11/2019 19:36

You could get a gift voucher for somewhere like John Lewis as they stock MAC, NARS, Urban Decay and Charlotte Tilbury amongst many other make up brands.

TartanMarbled · 07/11/2019 20:03

Art or photography coffee table book

bialystockandbloom · 07/11/2019 20:06

Jewellery from Astrid and Miyu? Pretty cool and huge range of cute ear cuffs, huggies and mini cartilage studs etc.

BeaLola · 07/11/2019 20:10

I would also suggest small something eg Huda palette and maybe Space NK voucher or ASOS .

Dad she have a partner who could give point in right direction ?

I am 50 ish though but buy loads from Space NK or Cult Beauty as they do lots of brands
Depending where she is based maybe vouchers for say Fenwicjs or Selfridges

stanski · 07/11/2019 20:15

I would actually go with a make up advent calendar. There are a few decent ones at £70-79 and that would be a lot of different things and a surprise for each day
