Is TK Maxx really that good of a deal?/best finds

I was planning on taking a trip out to my nearest TK Maxx, I need some new clothes and skincare items. Are the deals actually that good? What are your best TK Maxx finds ?

youropinionisnoted I remember watching it too, apparently places like Bicester Village do the same thing, they carry a mix of old stock and made for outlet only.

Some High end brands would rather burn their old stock than resale them at a cheaper price.

It's my go to place for home stuff before looking else where. I spent ages looking for pink bedside lamps and eventually found them at TK Maxx. That was maybe 15 years ago, they are still going strong and I still love them. Saw a similar pair last year and bought them but then decided to leave them back. Then one of the new lamps I had bought when moving house gave up the ghost (only cost £10 each). Really regretted returning them. Have bought lots of kitchen stuff over the years including a great set of non stick saucepans. Also have a good collection of Bodum storage jars.

saucyspice · 29/10/2019 21:20

I've found a couple of nice Eve Lom skincare in their recently, much cheaper than online. Used to find better clothes and handbags a little while ago but I haven't found anything I really love for ages.

Moominfan · 29/10/2019 21:43

It's a horrible shop. Like a giant jumble sale. I have yet to buy anything there.

I love w jumble sale Grinjust not tkmaxx prices

YorkshireIndie · 29/10/2019 21:57

Like it's sister shop home sense - somethings feel £££ for what you are getting but they do really good cards

Zampa · 29/10/2019 22:03

I've recently found some Eve Lom skincare too. £105 moisturiser for £30.

Wheat2Harvest · 29/10/2019 22:25

TK Maxx is excellent. I buy a lot of clothes there.

It's fashionable to run it down, though.

thecatfromjapan · 29/10/2019 22:35

I like TK Maxx.
I tried on a dress in John Lewis priced at £200, liked it, but realised it was way too expensive.
I bought it in TK Maxx later for £30.

They have Ottoman Hands jewellery in at the moment, which I like, and it's a fraction of the price.

Candles, bedding and stationery are good.

At Christmas, they tend to get a lot of perfume in.

My best bargain was a Serge Lutens perfume for £15.

goose1964 · 29/10/2019 22:39

My best buy was a pair of cashmere socks for well under a fiver.

Itsallpetetong · 29/10/2019 22:42

Total tat in our local branch, just a jumble sale full of mostly unknown or made for outlet brands (despite being a big city centre) with the vary rare known brand, to keep enticing suckers in, and Home sense the next town over is equally full of tat.
The stores 40 miles over in either direction are full of Ralph Lauren & other brand bargains- no idea why they are so special, one location isn’t even a city.

Wineislifex · 29/10/2019 22:43

They’ve had some decent make up in recently, Gucci eyeshadow pallet for £10 and Chanel nail polish for £8! I find it a bit too hard work looking through the endless rails of clothes tho, it can be like a jumble sale!

hammeringinmyhead · 29/10/2019 22:47

I bought my Diesel military-style parka in the Bath branch for about £70. It was for sale elsewhere at £400. DH got a £200 AllSaints coat for about £80. Also love their wool jumpers - just bought an Antoni & Alison last week for £25. DH gets his jeans from there, usually either Diesel or Replay.

Otherwise I second kids clothes (Little Green Radicals for £8!), Le Creuset, and random food bits.

thegreylady · 29/10/2019 22:54

I was there today. I wanted a cotton dressing gown for ds who lives in Dubai. I found a Ralph Loren white waffle robe RRP £115. It was £12.99. I bought it.

GetUpAgain · 29/10/2019 22:54

I hate shops with racks of identical clothes. You can stand in one spot in Next and slowly turn round and you've seen everything.

TK Maxx is the opposite, you have to go through every rack, you never know what you will find. I really like it. Today I bought a decent sports bra for £4, a hoody for fussy DS for £20 (not sure he likes it but he needs one for dog walking and at that price I felt I could risk it) and a phone screen protector I needed, which saved me buying online.

I like that there is variety and I guess different companies profit from supplying them, more so than places owned by Philip Green/ Mike Sportsdirect type of fat cats. For eco reasons I try to buy from charity shops first and foremost, but TK Maxx is my next place to shop.

thegreylady · 29/10/2019 22:54

Lauren not Loren!

PickAChew · 29/10/2019 22:59

I rarely find good clothes in there. Even all the "designer" socks are mostly polyester.

Love the home section, mind. Only duff buy I've had from there were some "dkny" towels which were smaller than towels of their "size" from elsewhere and looked tatty, with one hem completely unravelled within a year. Have a bit of le creuset from there and picked up some Denby Orchard mugs, last week, which go nicely with our ancient set of Juice dinnerwear.

mysteryfairy · 29/10/2019 23:02

It’s easier to shop if you are relatively brand savvy and also quite productive if you are prepared to sift through new in online every day.

I have had a Vivienne Westwood coat rrp £950 for £300, Joseph fitted silk jumpers for work £39 instead of around £180, chilly’s bottles for £13 so nearly half price, numerous kitchen items from le creuset, Joseph Joseph etc. I always check for falke and Wolford tights in store and tend to pay £5-£7 depending on whether opaque or wool based.

Wandastartup · 29/10/2019 23:02

I bought an Orla Kiely work bag & Wilford tights before. Got the kids running leggings & lots of Hatley stuff when they were smaller.

ongranaryplease · 29/10/2019 23:04

Hit and miss really but you can grab some really good deals. As an example of price differences,

I saw this at John Lewis only two weeks ago and remarked to DH that it’d be a nice present for DNiece as she likes that sort of thing.
www.johnlewis.com/scion-marty-moose-neck-warmer/p4113570

We then went straight to the TK Maxx virtually next door and this exact item, same brand same everything, was in the ‘New In’ range for abour £8!

Pinkarsedfly · 29/10/2019 23:04

I got a very nice stripy Clements Ribeiro jumper from there the other week for £30.

And a Kew one. Remember Kew?

I love This Works scented candles and they usually have them there. And nice bars of soap. I’m a fairly recent convert.

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/10/2019 23:11

I get Redken Extreme shampoo and conditioner in big bottles when they have it in. Only £20 a bottle compared to the cheapest on Ebay at £26 and retail price of around £40.

I've found a few niche New Zealand skincare brands that are really cheap because they're not known in the UK.

I also find the occasional bargain in the Gold (designer) section such as James Perse T-shirts for £20 (instead of £80+), a Paul Smith blazer for £80, a House of Holland silk sweater for £50 (rather than £200+).....you need to know your labels though and be aware of trends or it's easy to get ripped off and stuck with ancient stock that's been sitting around for years.

PickAChew · 29/10/2019 23:12

Um, dinnerwear is what happens when I've sat next to DS2 at tea time Blush

weebarra · 29/10/2019 23:19

I've found some beauty stuff significantly cheaper - Nuxe, Eve Lom, Scottish Fine Soaps.
Good jammies and pants for the DCs, though my town seems to miss out of the scandi bargains others fine.
I also like the knitwear and shoes - I always go in when I have plenty of time and no children.

DoctorMarten · 29/10/2019 23:39

I’ve had some success:

Gorgeous suede All Saints bag half price
Two pairs of 7 For All Mankind for £29.99 each
Karen Millen down coat half price
Michael Kors thick coat - warm and gorgeous half price
Crew Clothing knitwear

That’s all I can recall but I’ve bought some gems there. I go in the weekdays only.

The best time to go is first thing in the morning just as they have opened
