Budget makeup that's as good as high end....

Okay I'm a high-end buyer of some stuff- mainly Bobbi Brown, Lancome mascara, and a bit of Nars.

I'm not prepared to give up my high end foundation/ concealer as I'm pale and find best match colours and textures in B Brown and it lasts me months.

But eye shadows and lippy. I adored a Dior 5-eye shadow palette some years ago but cannot bring myself to spend £40 on eye shadow, and I'm even re-thinking B Brown £20 eye shadow.

Is there really any difference between a £1.99 Collection eye shadow and one for £20?

I've been really impressed with Revolution from Superdrug. It's sooo cheap but so good!

MangoSalsa · 28/10/2019 13:38

Another vote for for Revolution.

JinglingHellsBells · 28/10/2019 13:42

I think I bought that a while ago and ended up giving it to DD. I think the eyeshadows were quite shimmery (if I'm thinking correctly.!)

revolution is great! i always buy the 100 colour eyeshadow palettes when they’re £10 after christmas. i love their foundation too. i’m really pale and the lightest colours are perfect for me. make up academy in superdrug is similar in price and quality. w7 make up is also quite good, especially for dupes of higher end products.

Corcra · 28/10/2019 13:48

Nyx lip butters are gorgeous. Wet n wild nail varnishes. Collection eyeliner. Essence eyebrow brush is as good as my benefit one.

IggyAce · 28/10/2019 13:49

MUA from Superdrug eyeshadow pallets are fab and the pigmentation is great they are around £5.

JorisBonson · 28/10/2019 13:49

Revolution is fantastic!

Day to day cheapy make up I use Rimmel and Collection. I also bought a liquid eyeliner in Poundland that is one of the best I've ever used.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 28/10/2019 13:49

If the eye shadows were too shimmery, buy a matte palette. Revolution do several.

Honeybee85 · 28/10/2019 13:56

Sleek Blush in rosegold is very similar to Nars Orgasm blush. I love Catrice nailpolish (Karl says tres chic is a great nude colour that is as the name says, indeed very chique). Kiko Milano does great lipsticks, the quality is comparable to high end products imo (also a Bobbi Brown fan and love Chanel too).

Buddyelf · 28/10/2019 13:58

Another recommendation for Revolution. I just bought a palette for £10, its a neutral one that I think is supposed to be a HUDA dupe and its beautiful.

bethany39 · 28/10/2019 16:00

Would echo a PP's recommendation of Revolution foundations and concealers for pale skin - v good shade range compared to the vast majority of lower end brands. Also another's for Sleek rose gold blush.

I currently really like MUA's stylo lip crayons, but depends what you want from a lippy really! I have friends who love the NYX liquid lipsticks but I found them a bit drying.

peaceanddove · 28/10/2019 16:33

I have a dressing table cluttered with high end make up but I still swear by Collection concealer in Fair and Maybelline Fit to Me sheer powder.

Theworldisfullofgs · 28/10/2019 16:37

I love lili lolo and the eyeshadow last for ages as you tip out what you need. Ditto blusher.

Expensive lipsticks tend to be better value because of staying power. I might not have found a good cheaper one yet.

keepingbees · 28/10/2019 16:53

Cheap brands are hit and miss between products in my experience. The MUA eye shadows are very good, I have a neutral matte palette that's great and I wear every day. But the rest of the range is pretty rubbish I think. I have a Revolution loose powder that's pretty good but I thought their eyeshadows felt cheap.
Barry M mascaras are good. Rimmel eyebrow pencils are fab. Also have a look at Essence in Wilko, some of their mascaras and bits are good. Boots Natural collection products aren't bad at all for under £2 an item.
Collection eyeshadows are rubbish.
I wear make up every day and have sensitive skin and eyes if that helps.

saucyspice · 28/10/2019 17:56

I buy a variety of high end and cheap make up and actually find some of the cheap stuff can be made. Specific products I would recommend would be:

NYX Lipsticks
Maybelline instant age rewind concealer
Revolution under eye primer
Essence false lash effect mascara
Revolution pro foundation drops
Rimmel exaggerate liquid eye liner

I've got to say I've been impressed but I everything I've tried from revolution so far and am tempted to try more..

Fstar · 28/10/2019 19:59

I like revolution eyeshadows, beauty bay and focallure(dupes for high end, so pigmented)
For lips i like nyx and some primark

Tried Charlotte Tilbury, very underwhelmed and want my money back (pillowtalk eyes and lips)
Was going to treat myself on hols to Huda and ABH but ended up not buying them, not impressed

I do like some too faced eyeshadows and their peaches lipsticks are really creamy

Stravapalava · 28/10/2019 20:16

Soap & Glory brow archery eyebrow pencil is very good.

Starheart · 28/10/2019 23:04

Primark foundation is as good as many high end brands . I have stopped buying expensive foundation because it's just as good.

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/10/2019 23:07

W7 full coverage foundation is good for evening wear and revolution pro foundation is great too. In fact I but a lot of revolution Makeup products as they are really good the only thing I don't like really is their eyeliner pens.

theemmadilemma · 28/10/2019 23:13

Primark does a lot of really good copies that get good reviews.

Their mineral foundation is not far off BareMinerals. £2 instead of £28.

TheMarbleFaun · 28/10/2019 23:16

Agree with Honeybee about the Kiko Milano lipsticks - as good as Urban Decay
Also the ELF face primers are as good as Smashbox
If you use their eye primer as well you can get away with a cheaper eyrshadow

TheMarbleFaun · 28/10/2019 23:18

Still searching for a mascara that's as good as Lancome though...

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/10/2019 23:21

ELF for pretty much everything but love their eyeshadow palettes, primers, and concealers. Revlon for lip crayons and lip liners. Soap and Glory does the best eyeliner, mascara, and setting powder in the market. However, when it comes to foundation, nothing really beats Bobbi Brown if you’re Indian.

Schwibble · 28/10/2019 23:24

Essence mascara is hands down the best mascara around, much better and cheaper than the high end stuff.

LellyMcKelly · 29/10/2019 06:39

Primark’s foundation powder is is good as Clinique Double Powder for around a tenth of the price. And their BB cream is lovely, vey moisturising and leaves a Dewey finish.
