Need a new foundation

Evening all,
Can anyone recommend a good foundation that gives good coverage but doesn't look too heavy and is also long lasting? Ive tried estee lauder double wear and Kat Von D but they either don't stay on or are far too heavy. Thank you x

Benefit Hello Flawless! Expensive, but lasts for ages. Oh, and don't know if you do already, but apply with a brush.

If you have a problem with foundation staying on, it's worth getting a setting spray (it's basically hair spray for the face!) You can get that for around a fiver.

Good luck!! x

Bobbi Brown long-wear weightless foundation. I get so many compliments on my skin, but only when I use THIS foundation! It lasts all day, I think it's brill!

adagio · 24/10/2019 20:07

Primer (any - the ordinary one for a few £ seems almost as good as smashbox which is ££)

I currently like Laura geller balance and brighten in medium, it blends colour well without having a match up exact tone every month as my skin changes colour into the winter - but it’s starting to get harder to get hold of, so they might have stopped making it.

JustLikeJasper · 24/10/2019 20:09

@OutOutBriefCandle thank you! Do you have any brush recommendations? I was using a beauty blender but i find it after a couple of uses a bit crap! X

@CurlyTwirlyTwos thank you will look into this one too, how do you apply yours? X

I bought L’Oréal True Match last week and it’s fabulous. Great application and light coverage but much more than my previous BB and CC creams. It’s just right, not too matt or dewy and looks just as good at the end of the day. Will buy again. Highly recommend.

AuntieMarys · 24/10/2019 20:11

I love Jane Iredale.

Need a new foundation

@adagio my face is so pale in comparison to the rest of me so this sounds like a good option. Where do you get it? X

@Redspider1 what are BB and CC creams? I have lots to learn 😂

lacuraandsimple · 24/10/2019 20:13

I have tried to many expensive ones. Mac. Bare minerals. Clinique. Estée Lauder.

Now, I SWEAR by revlon colour stay. Now I know my colour I manage to get it on amazon prime for £6. It's great

ginyogarepeat · 24/10/2019 20:16

Firstly - primer is very important to help it stay on!
I use Estée Lauder double wear, but the light version? Don't find it too heavy at all but coverage is good.

Redspider1 · 24/10/2019 20:17

BB is beauty balm. It’s a lighter foundation. It’s great in the summer but not so much coverage. CC is more of a concealer and is great for covering pigment changes/differences. The True Match foundation is honestly the best I’ve ever used. I actually don’t want to remove my makeup at the end of the day because it still looks good.

JustLikeJasper · 24/10/2019 20:21

@ginyogarepeat the double wear went really patchy and dry in places like under my eyes and my nose 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
JustLikeJasper · 24/10/2019 20:22

@Redspider1 thank you! My pigment is really noticeable, could a CC cream and a foundation be used together or is it one or the other?

OP posts:
Redspider1 · 24/10/2019 20:24

You could but I find the True Match covers it. The CC is for use all over the face though. I used a Garnier one in a tube(about £10).

fantasmasgoria1 · 24/10/2019 20:27

I have tried expensive foundation but haven't found it any more effective than cheaper varieties. I like revolution pro foundation for everyday use and its £12 iirc? . Also I found online a brand called phoera and the foundation is good and it's under a fiver. Now for nights out and full coverage something by W7 waterproof ultimate cover up. It ranges from £3.50 up until £8 depending on where you buy it. Blush and highlighter definitely revolution Makeup.

Redspider1 · 24/10/2019 20:28

Sorry, my CC was Bourjois 123!

JustLikeJasper · 24/10/2019 20:29

@fantasmasgoria1 thank you will look into these x

Yoohoo16 · 24/10/2019 20:34

Oh following this. I loved pro long wear by Mac but they’ve discontinued it Angry and their studio fix is no way near as good.

adagio · 24/10/2019 20:38

I found my Laura geller online a few months ago, looks like it’s only on eBay now. I apply with a retractable kabuki brush - buff it on in like small circles.

OutOutBriefCandle · 24/10/2019 20:55

JustLikeJasper: Any 'foundation brush'. It leaves such a natural finish. (Circular movements).

I don't bother with primer any more - although it is good. I find the best thing is to make sure the face is seriously hydrated before applying make up. I exfoliate (with olive oil and salt) and moisturize (with coconut oil). Forget all those over-marketed chemical things! Cupboard ingredients is all that's needed - justifies spending ££££ on foundation!

Redspider1 · 24/10/2019 21:03

I agree. I use a cheap Aldi Lacura moisturiser. It’s great. I use retinol by The Ordinary at night so just need a good moisturising cream in the day.

feelingsinister · 24/10/2019 21:21

I really like no7 foundation drops which I mix with their liquid illuminator. The foundation lasts for ages and ages.

I agree with others that you need a good primer. I use the ordinary high spreadbility fluid

www.beautybay.com/p/the-ordinary/high-spreadability-fluid-primer/?ctyid=gb&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI79jcytu15QIVEeaaCh0rbgyBEAQYAyABEgImKfD_BwE

I also use a setting spray. Urban Decay is brilliant but the nyx one is fine and much cheaper,

JustLikeJasper · 24/10/2019 21:31

Thank you everyone for your replies will look into all of them and the other items recommended too

OP posts:
CurlyTwirlyTwos · 24/10/2019 21:48

I use a sponge @justlikejasper - I find it easier and quicker than a brush. Although using brushes is supposed to help make foundation 'last' longer.

I've dabbled with setting sprays and primers - it depends on how much makeup you layer up. Fuller face/more layers the more you need the extras.

Great thread, I love reading other tips!
