Are GHDs worth the cash?

I was in holiday in a lovely cottage with loads of extras, including some GHDs... they were amazingly different from my old babyliss. I’m aware mine are old though. Is it worth paying the price of GHDs, or is it just that mine are a decade old (or more?) and straighteners have improved in general?

In my opinion yes they are worth it! Life changing if you have frizzy / thick hair like me. I’m on my second pair, the first lasted a good 12 years, current ones are 7 years and still going strong!

BibbleBrain · 24/10/2019 09:56

Vote here though I’m about to buy the hot brush thingy they’ve released as I no longer have time to dry hair and it goes too flat without volumisimg roots

HighOnStilts · 24/10/2019 10:03

I've got the original GHD IV styler, had them for just over 10 years and they are still going strong. Worth the £150 I paid for them and wouldn't hesitate to invest in another when mine finally give up! X

JustHereWithPopcorn · 24/10/2019 10:20

Definitely worth the price! My first pair lasted 8 years and my second pair I've had for 7 years! Have used other styles friends have but GHDs will always be the best in my opinion.

Wallabyone · 24/10/2019 10:24

In my experience, yes they are. Mine are about 12 years old and they're used a lot and are still going strong (will keep fingers crossed they don't decide to blow up now 🙈)

Mintlegs · 24/10/2019 10:26

Yes

Stillabitemo · 24/10/2019 10:27

Another big yes. Get them through Argos and top cash back to save a bit

SRK16 · 24/10/2019 10:28

Mine are at least 10 years old and going strong, they’re amazing. Well worth it.

Greenvalleymama · 24/10/2019 10:28

I had some older GHDs which were great but they died recently and when I was looking to replace them someone recommended Kipozi. I went for those instead as they're a quarter of the price and work amazingly well. Look at the reviews on Amazon. They are better than my old GHDs but they were 10yrs or so old, so not sure how they compare with new ones!

eurochick · 24/10/2019 10:29

Mine are getting on for twenty years old and are still going strong.

notacooldad · 24/10/2019 10:37

I have only had ghd's and liked them. I let my SIL use them and she was amazed by them and loved them so much she went out and bought a pair. I had mine for years before they broke. I did take them to a shop to be repaired but they offered a trade in. I paid £35 + my broken GHD's and got a newer model.

woodhill · 24/10/2019 10:42

Yes, mine are about 10 years' old - brilliant

WoollyFoolly · 24/10/2019 10:48

I bought my GHDs just before I met my now-husband which was 20 years ago. Still going strong!

purplepandas · 24/10/2019 10:51

Yes but I have cloud nines now since my old GHDs finally gave up the ghost. The new ones (for thick hair) kept catching my hair and so I sold them and got cloud nines. Tons better.

Buddyelf · 24/10/2019 10:52

Yes they are the best straighteners going IMO. My first pair lasted almost 10 years and my second pair are still going strong after 3 years. Well worth the money.

showmethegin · 24/10/2019 10:59

I got mine for my 16th birthday... I'm 31 now and still using them

FionaOgre · 24/10/2019 11:11

Yes. They were life changing. I went from Hagrid head to passable human when I finally got some.

RedPandaFluff · 24/10/2019 11:13

Yes, but not the platinum ones - bought them for myself as a treat/upgrade from my old GHDs that I'd had for years, realised they're rubbish and I'm back using my old ones! Kicking myself for wasting the money.

Alarae · 24/10/2019 12:08

Yep, love them.

I have the GHD wave wand and it is hands down the only thing that keeps a curl in my hair. Everything else falls out quickly.

1ColdFish · 24/10/2019 14:25

Yes. I have had mine nearly 20 years and no other straightners compare.

MerryDeath · 24/10/2019 14:51

no. i can get just as good results with cheaper ones and i've kept the same ones for years and years. i do like the hot brush i bought recently. i don't really straighten much anymore though.

Srictlybakeoff · 24/10/2019 14:56

I have cloud nines. My hairdresser recommended them for my thick coarse hair. She says they were designed by one of the original folk from ghd who left the company . They have different heat settings.
I prefer them to the ghd ones

ToodlesnOOdleSAR · 24/10/2019 14:59

My GHDs are 11 years old and still going strong. I rarely straighten my hair these days, but can rely on them. Quick, straight and shiny, what more do you want...
If they broke tomorrow I'd be getting new GHDs

Allthepinkunicorns · 24/10/2019 18:26

The newer ghds are terrible. I wouldn't waste money on them now. I got some Remington ones on Amazon for £35 and they work just as well as my old ghds did.

areyouafraidofthedark · 24/10/2019 18:27

I love my ghds, definitely worth the cost.
