Are Seasalt coats worth the money?

I see Seasalt coats a lot on here. I need a new decent waterproof coat but it just seems a lot to spend on a coat. Are they worth the money?

They're really great coats.
But check the sleeve length. I'm not tall at all, but either I have really long arms, or the sleeves are on the short side. My friend has the same issue so I don't think I'm particularly disproportioned!

Oooh thanks for that. Am going for the blue...it was unanimous between my boyfriend and the DCs!

I love my Seasalt. I have a knee length padded winter coat, it's nearly 6 years old & I re waterproofed it this summer (although it didn't really need it, it did need a wash though!) It's never leaked. I do wear a thin jacket or gilet under it in the most bitterly cold weather, but I live in the north & really feel the cold. I wear it pretty much every day from autumn right through to spring. The price per use must already be just pennies.

Is it sad that I'm a bit excited? I've never had a truly brilliant coat.

Not for me. I was allergic to mine. Seriously. Whatever waterproof stuff they put on, I am allergic to. Everywhere it touched my bare skin I developed a nasty rash. Neck, cuffs etc. I did write to them and they basically said “oh well, tough shit” which impressed me even less.

Better to buy a technical sailing jacket. I've had mine for 17 years and it's still going strong and still waterproof. Musto or Henry Lloyd priced from 125 to 300 pounds for an offshore one

Love my Janelle. I spend a lot of time hanging around cold station platforms. The Janelle has a lovely fleece lining which keeps me warm, and reaches to my knees so if I’m wearing boots I’m completely dry. I do agree that for me the sleeves could be slightly longer but that’s not enough to put me off!

TheJoxter · 15/10/2019 21:31

Mine soaks through in anything more than a light shower, also the sleeves are far too short. They look nice though!

I have that Coat OP and it started leaking (badly) after about 4 years to the point that it's now useless in the rain. I contacted SeaSalt and they said it was coming to the end of its life. I was Shock. I expect a £150 coat to last more than a few years. Annoying, as in other ways a great coat (comfy, warm but not too warm, etc).

TheJoxter · 15/10/2019 21:57

After spending ££££ on so many coats that didn’t keep the rain out, I got a second hand Barbour off eBay for £50, needs rewaxing once a year but works beautifully

I bought a Seasalt coat in the sale. A long double layer one. I sometimes use a wheelchair so I really wanted something to keep me dry and warm.

I once wore it and got caught in an absolute downpour. I had an actual puddle on my lap and stayed dry. It’s really good.

My Janelle has split on one of the seams, I bought it cash in store and didn't retain the receipt so Seasalt aren't prepared to help, I realise now in retrospect that you can register online for a lifetime guarantee 🙄. Up until this point I'd been really happy with mine.
