Autumn dressing for blue eyed, pale blondes

Anyone else struggle during Autumn and Winter due to 95% of clothes/shoes/accessories being so dark?

With the vast majority of stuff in the shops being black, navy, wine, dark green, brown, I feel like a cotton bud draped in a shroud.

So if you’re light skinned, light haired and light eyed, tell me what you’re wearing. I’m trying to avoid the siren call of head to toe beige for now and I feel that red is a bit too ... jaunty.

Gosh, I am blonde blue eyes and fair and I always thought autumn colours suited me! I go for rust over red and sage green over emerald so softer autumn I suppose

NightsOfCabiria · 12/10/2019 17:18

I dont look my best in rust, especially next to my face as its a bit too warm but I love rust boots, belts and bags.

New Look have some ribbed jumpers in pale pink and pale blue at the moment.

Cuddling57 · 12/10/2019 17:40

Oh dear, I think I may be getting it all wrong.
I was trying to avoid beige and pale pink as thought it made me looked washed out! I like navy - I probably look awful in it 😂!

MissNorma · 12/10/2019 18:16

Beige and pale pink also make me look ill cuddling
I suit navy. I'm blue eyes, fair hair but not particularly pale skinned.
There is a lot of cream around at the moment, which is another colour I don't suit.

Musicforsnorks · 12/10/2019 18:52

I wear a lot of grey, soft beige, charcoal, sometimes navy, happy to wear black on lower half.
Instead of a long wool coat in black or other colours perhaps try a check pattern with mixed fibres, greyish dogtooth, etc.

BoudicasBoudoir · 12/10/2019 19:50

I have very fair skin, blonde hair (now with silver streaks) and greenish eyes. I like dark colours on me: they are a good contrast with my colouring. Not black next to my face, but navy is fine, dark green and chocolate brown even better.
Paler colours (and particularly beige) make me look ill. I think you have to be quite tanned to get away with them.

NightsOfCabiria · 12/10/2019 20:10

Mmm ... interesting range of responses.

I’ve had my colours done and was ‘diagnosed as a bright (clear) spring and advised to wear really bright, contrasting colours but I’m unusual in being so pale, blonde and with light bluey grey eyes, as most bright springs are dark haired with quite vivid eyes, plus, I’m a bit of a wilting wall flower so dont want to attract attention.

I think I’ll just have to resort to wearing light grey and ivory on my top half with dark jeans. Personally, i think pink and aqua look wrong at this time of year.

I was in town earlier and a dark haired/dark eyed woman walked past me in bottle green and rust and she looked spectacular.

Wear what you like and don't worry about your 'colours'. You must suit grey or blue? And I thought everyone suited red, it's just a case of wearing your red.

thisenglishlife · 12/10/2019 20:41

Everyone suits true red, navy, brightish teal and probably a few other colours too.

PickingUpLicks · 12/10/2019 21:05

Berry pink, not cerise but more like a softer raspberry. Teal definitely. The right shade of purple, not lilac but not a dark purple either.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/10/2019 21:09

Olive green, wine, French navy...
Dog tooth,
Greys

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2019 21:12

I avoid all this autumn type / jewel colours - wine, burgundy, brown.

I’m not sure I change that much from colours I wear in summer. So stick with light grey, raspberry, navy, orangey red, blush

Snog · 12/10/2019 23:08

I wear blush pink and pale green with denim but also with navy and teal dresses/trousers/skirts

managedmis · 13/10/2019 00:42

Dunno, I love autumn personally for the style, jeans, boots, scarves etc.

I'd never wear rust or mustard, I hate typical autumn colours. I wear charcoal, navy, dark forest green, emerald green and bright cerise pink. Teal too. Love teal. I have some burgundy boots and also some light brown boots too.

The only orange I have in my wardrobe is an orange and black cardy that I wear towards Halloween.

I've blonde hair, pale skin and blue/grey eyes.

Fstar · 13/10/2019 12:16

I suit teal and burgandy so thoses are my go to just now. Bought a gorgeous teal duffle coat from boden and its perfect, love burgandy jumpers and cardis with dark blue or black trousers/jeans

Floisme · 13/10/2019 12:31

Pale, blue eyes, greyish-blondish. I find it's not so much the colour as the shade that works or doesn't work for me. As long as it's not too dark, too pale or too bright it's normally ok, but I usually go for burgundy, charcoal grey, berry shades, dark-but-not-quite-black brown (not been around for ages - hurray) and deep greens. I slipped into wearing a lot of grey last autumn and I'm trying to break out.

NightsOfCabiria · 13/10/2019 14:14

I’m going to go with @MarshaBradyo’s suggestion:

I’m not sure I change that much from colours I wear in summer. So stick with light grey, raspberry, navy, orangey red, blush

These sound amazing.

Good one! Smile

Supersimkin2 · 13/10/2019 21:24

A really saturated scarlet will do you proud. A red coat looks great in this grey flat weather.

Dark blue (I hate calling it navy), dark green, fuchsia will do the trick too. Also yellow, but find a yellow-green that suits you, they don't all work. Lilac is on its way back in, and it's practically a neutral.

PumpkinKing · 13/10/2019 23:37

I've been thinking about this too OP. I've been blonde since June. Pale and blue-eyed since forever obvs. When I was brunette the usual Autumn colours like rust, burnt orange, mustard, forest green and navy really suited me but now I'm blonde they don't look good on me at all, as I've recently discovered. I've been wearing cream, beige, blush, dusty pink, and rose. I feel like they make my face feel so much brighter. When I put my black coat on now I just feel ugh. Washes me out completely. I really need a new coat. I hate coat shopping

NightsOfCabiria · 14/10/2019 19:33

Yes@PumpkinKing, it’s the ‘value’ of your face I think. As a light haired, eyed, skinned person, you’re a light value, so the majority of your outfit (60%) should reflect this.

I know this but it’s still a struggle amid a sea of bottle green and dark brown.

OP posts:
Lumene · 14/10/2019 20:12

It will depend on your underlying colouring.

I’m pale blue eyed and blonde and am a soft winter. I suit faded out autumn colours but not toooo dark or bright. Clear spring colours drown me.

You know what colours work on you because you can see them on you,, although the palette is a good guide.

I find places like United colours of Benetton, uniqlo do a reasonable range of colours all year round. Kettlewell colours is another option, but not cheap.

Lumene · 14/10/2019 20:13

Soft winter? Soft autumn!

NightsOfCabiria · 15/10/2019 07:53

I’m definitely a bright (blue) Spring, just unusually light and on the cooler end of the spring spectrum so suit the blues and greys best. I like GAP but dont have a local store and Kettlewell stuff is very thin and clingy and therefore unflattering and the cuts just seem weird.
