Do you follow style rules?

Or even fashion rules for that matter? I'm pretty sure they are two different things.

On Friday I wore an outfit to work I thought was alright as casual-Friday outfits go...black long-sleeved polo neck with a black faux leather T shirt on top...Light blue wash jeans. Open toe thin sandals with probably a 3inch heel.

My manager and more person did a double take and the receptionist pursed her lips and gave me a long cool stare. What cardinal fashion rules did I break? I am at a loss Confused I've never had that reaction from people before. And this is a tech environment where the developers rock up to work daily in shorts and smelly T shirts.

Please tell me I looked jaw-droppingly awesome hence the reactions Grin

But seriously do you have any self imposed looking-good rules you follow at work? Would be good to know (so I can go ahead and break some rules of good taste) Wink

Anyone? With the irritatingly vague and sketchy information I've given please tell me if I've committed a fashion faux pas?

Just so I can sleep soundly tonight? Grin

Bet you looked awesome but weren’t your feet cold???

Fisharesexierthanme · 05/10/2019 22:14

Sounds fine. Bit of a random outfit but I like that. If you can rock it, it looks cool.

Swiftier · 05/10/2019 22:16

To be honest it sounds a bit... odd! I can’t really picture the outfit 😂 Picture?

user1494055864 · 05/10/2019 22:22

It sounds a bit of a weird combo.

I wouldn't wear a t-shirt over a long sleeve top.

I wouldn't wear a faux leather t-shirt. I would wear faux leather skirt or trousers.
I wouldn't wear light jeans with black top, I'd wear black or navy jeans.
Wouldn't wear thin, heeled sandals with jeans.

InsertFunnyUsername · 05/10/2019 22:32

Does sound a bit... Funky. Wouldn't make me purse my lips though. Maybe you have fabulous toes.

MissLadyM · 05/10/2019 22:38

Tbh it sounds like a shit outfit...

Usethegoodbudder · 05/10/2019 22:39

Open toe shoes when it's been pissing down all week? That's probably it

LunaTheCat · 05/10/2019 22:41

My style rules
If you feel good that is what matters.
Loose top, fitted bottom or vice versa
Wear natural fibres
You dress more imaginatively when you have a smaller wardrobe
Mix it up - so a floral dress with boots, feminine shirt with jeans, leather jacket with a beautiful dress
Remembering style is about having confidence and carrying yourself.
Makeup - emphasise eyes or lips.
Always wear comfortable and well fitting underwear.

And yes thats really me Wink

The T shirt was faux leather at the front and a nice stretchy knit st the back. What the stylits call mixed media or some such thing...

Thought the black top and blue jeans combo was so classic as to verge on boring but guess not!

Thanks @LunaTheCat! All really good sensible rules

I do however do both eyes AND Lips. Nothing dramatic that might scare a toddler but they do quite stand out...

Maybe it was the sandals and the fact it is quite cold, it looks alright with boots, just normal really

user1474894224 · 06/10/2019 03:59

Both those pictures only have one top on and boots not open toe sandals. Open toes aren't really for the office....

LoreleiRock · 06/10/2019 04:02

It may have been the light jeans? Or it may have looked too dressy? Nothing wrong with that though.

0DimSumMum0 · 06/10/2019 04:07

Maybe because of the sandals it looked too evening?? So maybe a bit too dressy for the office?

gerispringer · 06/10/2019 04:08

Looks ok for something you’d wear to the pub, but I’ve never worked anywhere where jeans were acceptable office wear. Sandals would be odd with the dark wintery top though.

Amrapaali · 06/10/2019 06:38

@0DimSumMum0 and @LoreleiRock yep am going with too dressy to explain away Friday. Maybe black leather and sandals was a bit too much...

But honestly it wasn't THAT cold here in the SE. And I was going to spend all day indoors in a well heated office anyway.

Ah well...not gping to stop rocking leather to work though Grin

Amrapaali · 06/10/2019 06:40

@gerispringer Steady yourself- they were ripped jeans as well Grin

ChessIsASport · 06/10/2019 06:46

The only thing I can think of is that a lot of offices don’t allow sandals.

I bet you just looked stunning and caught their attention.

GoFiguire · 06/10/2019 06:54

Maybe it was your hair.

eeksville · 06/10/2019 06:55

I think it was the fact you were wearing 2 tops & then ripped jeans & then sandals. It sounds very random

Amrapaali · 06/10/2019 07:06

Thank you @ChessIsASport. I thought I was stunning as well. Maybe I was too stunning Wink

My disgustingly healthy self confidence won't let me think about it any other way heh
