Hi All,

I’ve been having hairloss for the last five months and am currently in the process of having blood tested. I’ve attached a photo - please be honest. Is it very noticeable?

I can't see any hair loss at all!

cacklingmags · 20/09/2019 15:54

You have loads of hair - no obvious loss. I know it is very worrying - I have frontal fibrosing alopecia and some days I feel like a right old baldy. It is possible you are just suffering free floating anxiety and your hair is a place to project it on to. Keep seeing the doc and get referred to a specialist, if it is anxiety related they will reassure you.

haverhill · 20/09/2019 15:59

OP, I had this in my 20s and it's really upsetting. The good news is your hair looks lovely and thick to me, with a normal amount of visible scalp.
Make sure your diet is good, take 'gentle' iron and biotin, use gentle products on it and try not to worry.

Itsallpetetong · 20/09/2019 16:07

Not noticeable but I read years ago about needing to change your parting regularly because the same parting can cause hair loss.

www.thehealthsite.com/beauty/can-parting-your-hair-in-the-same-way-lead-to-hair-loss-t0817-512627/

That said, I was ending up with handfuls of hair every time I washed it, turned out to be underactive thyroid and low iron.

tequilasunrises · 20/09/2019 16:29

Literally can’t notice it at all. In fact I clicked on the first photo and thought it was a before one until I saw the second one was the same. It looks perfectly lovely Wine

thethoughtfox · 20/09/2019 16:33

Can't see it

MunsteadWood · 20/09/2019 16:40

I can identify as I had serious hair loss as a result of sudden onset psoriasis a few years ago and found it really traumatic. In my case the hair loss was patchy and I ended up having to wear my hair in an uneven zig zag parting to hide the bald patches and used spray on fibres and clip in extensions. It felt SO noticeable to me and I was convinced it was obvious to everyone. But I've been amazed talking about it years later (all now resolved) that most people I ask claim to never have noticed - and I do believe them. Your hair loss is honestly not noticeable at all, although I well understand it must feel like it to you. Hope you find a solution very soon.

pickletickled · 20/09/2019 17:13

Same OP :(
Honestly your hair doesn't look noticeable but I appreciate it's upsetting. Like me, you look as if you have thick hair to begin with, which is a bonus.
Mine is between 1/3 to half the thickness that it was around a year ago. Initial bloods showed a vit D and some B's deficiencies but treatment hasn't corrected it. Now 'hormones' are getting blamed even though my bloods came back normal!! I have no other symptoms of peri menopause neither so I'm just being fobbed off.
I'm going to ask for a referral to a hair specialist on my next visit.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 20/09/2019 17:57

@pickletickled Have you had b12 injections? That’s what I have to have now.

pickletickled · 20/09/2019 18:06

Sarah, yeah, I was given high doses of all Vits I was lacking. GP wasn't particularly interested in rechecking after finishing the treatment but I pushed so they done it. My D levels were only slightly over the 'normal' range but GP said it was fine.
I'm just back from 2 weeks abroad where I purposely left body parts exposed to the sun, without sun cream, for a bit - so hopefully the sun will have naturally topped up my levels for a while.
Hope you get to the bottom of what's causing yours x

Nicecupofcoco · 20/09/2019 18:14

Definitely not noticing it on the pics. Your hair looks lovely and thick I'd say. Mines thick too and I loose a lot of hair, when I brush, when I wash it, when I run fingers through sometimes. It's been happening to me for years and I still have thick hair, so I thought just normal hair loss. Also if your hair is fairly long, I think it tends to look a lot more hair loss than perhaps somebody with shorter hair.
I used to worry so much about mine falling out, but I don't tend to anymore. I think it's just normal hair fall.
Hope you get to the bottom of it.

SheldonandMama · 20/09/2019 18:17

I had a similar problem. Not noticeable to others (a slightly wider parting ie general hair loss) with much more noticeable loss above the ears. Lots would come out after a wash or a brush. Turns out my vit D was on the floor. A year after prescription levels of vit D my hair seems to be slowly recovering. (Or maybe just not getting worse). I was also recommended b complex vitamins. I wonder if it's also a bit of horminal change. I relate to the worry and distress. I got a hair restyle to sunsuit my hair as it is now, rather than 10 yrs ago and this has improved my confidence a lot.

OP how old are you? I started looking fistfuls in the shower in my late 40s. Peri menopause. Now take viviscal. It's expensive but like a miracle cure. It's often on a 3 for 2 at boots or Holland abs Barrett.

popehilarious · 20/09/2019 18:54

I'm sure you would've said, but you haven't had a baby in the past year or so, have you?

Sarahlouiseis33 · 20/09/2019 19:34

@doublesheesh I’m 39, periods still regular as clockwork. Do you take viviscal max strength or the regular one? x

Sarahlouiseis33 · 20/09/2019 19:35

@popehilarious No definitely not! My baby is 8 😀 x

OP - I’m a trichologist. If you’re worried send me a pm and I’ll try and help.

fancytiles · 21/09/2019 00:13

Not noticeable at all. You have nice hair.

Smeller89 · 21/09/2019 09:07

IamMadameX - that looks great! Thanks for posting the pics and link, I'm going to get some of that today.

IamMadameX · 21/09/2019 13:03

For people suffering with hair loss, especially at the front I'd recommend using a powder rather then root spray

I've just used a powder from hair revolution from superdrug and very happy with it, it's not perfect but easier and less messy then spray. Plus I'm blind as a bat so doesn't help with applying it

www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Colourants/Root-Touch-up/Hair-Revolution-Root-Cover-Up-Dark-Brown/p/725042

I've posted before/after pics.

I've have an under active thyroid so always assumed the hair loss is to do with that and I'm also low in vitamin d so take that daily.

But mine has got worse over the years and to especially loose it at the front is hard to take especially when you can't cover it up with a fringe due to not enough hair.

doublesheesh · 21/09/2019 14:03

OP I use the regular one. i started on two a day as suggested. It broke me out in big spots (which I saw as a good thing as it obviously was doing something!) I reduced to 1 x a day and that's what I am on now. Honestly, it's been miraculous.

Apileofballyhoo · 21/09/2019 18:46

Deciem do a hair growth serum thing.

madcatladyforever · 21/09/2019 18:48

I cannot see any hair loss at all. Mine is much worse and I don't suffer hair loss at all. I'm very blond so you can see all of my scalp through my hair.
But really I cannot see any hair loss whatsoever. Where is it supposed to be?

SirVixofVixHall · 21/09/2019 18:51

No. It looks lovely. I have had hair thinning and i know how horrible it us, but honestly I can’t see any problem with your hair at all .
