Capsule wardrobe Prague to fit in a bag 40x25x20 cms

Ryanair are a shower of shites and their additional costs for luggage are ridiculous. I'm going on a trip to Prague with friends this Nov and most of the group are up for a challenge of just taking the the maximum free size bag which is 40x25x20 cms. Now I love a capsule wardrobe but that is tiny and I never pack light. I'd normally need more space than that for underwear! Any ideas for a 3 night 4 day trip?

I was thinking layering jeans, trainers, top, long jumper, long scarf and coat for the plane. I've got wide leg trousers and a t shirt with flats. I have sample bottles for make up etc.

Highly recommend taste of Prague blog for restaurant ideas. We bought their map and guide which gives a pack of recommendations rather than do their food tour (which looks great).

Book breakfast (need to book) at the hotel Savoy then walk up the hill to the observation tower then wander back through the castle district. We went to see the old masters at the art gallery near the castle. A perfect day.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie yes but who wants to carry dirty knickers around? Wear them, throw them. They feel like cotton too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2019 09:13

I just take a small bag to put knickers in once worn. It really isn't a problem. Paper knickers ridiculously wasteful imvho.

Laquila · 22/09/2019 09:53

Paper knickers 😱😆 real knickers take up SO little space - they wouldn’t be the first thing I’d compromise on!

I always find these threads fascinating. I’ve got better at packing light as I’ve got older but toiletries-wise I find it hard, as I have very sensitive skin and couldn’t rely on what I might find in a hotel. I also wear make-up every single day to conceal/improve difficult skin, so couldn’t just throw my Laura Mercier to the wind for four days 😆

I’d take something along these lines:

  • 4 x knickers
  • 1 or 2 x bras
  • 3 x socks
  • 1 x jeans (wear on plane)
  • 2 x thin cashmere jumpers (maybe one black and another neutral - wear one on plane)
  • 2 x thin long-sleeved tops (wear one on plane)
  • 1 x short-sleeved top/tee
  • 1 x dress to wear over thin tops (maybe dungaree-type dress or denim shirt dress)
  • flat black leather boots (wear on plane)
  • black Nike trainers
  • scarf (wear on plane)
  • gloves (wear on plane)
  • warm wool coat (wear on plane)

I’d then buy really warm thermal tights when there (I love tights shops in Euro cities!) and probably a necklace from H&M or the like. And a brolly if needed!

I’d also take Kindle and phone, glasses and a water bottle. And toiletries/make-up.

I’m a big fan of packing cubes, btw, and the system mentioned by op of taking a teeny flat cross-body bag and putting it in your rucksack when necessary. Have fun OP!

I've never tried paper knickers. Can't go commando so I'll take 4 pairs.

The food blog and recommendations are brilliant, thank you. We'll definitely need brunch and a rooftop bar, Hilton and Aria look good.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Bio degradable so not wasteful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2019 16:58

I still think it's ridiculous. We will have to agree to disagree.

Thesuzle · 22/09/2019 17:03

May i suggest a small cross body bag that you can wear under your top layer so “the shites” don’t see it
That can hold credit cards money, any pills you needs etc.
Keep passport in your back pocket

Pinkbonbon · 22/09/2019 17:04

I'd wear jeans, T-shirt, warm jumper, boots that are light n waterproof, maybe a scarf and a lightish waterproof jacket.

I'd pack 2 pairs of socks, a spare bra, 3 pairs of pants. 2 t-shirts, a cardi, a warmish but pretty dress and a pair of flats. Maybe a pair of leggings and make one of the t-shirts a long one to cover the bum (and to sleep in).

Pinkbonbon · 22/09/2019 17:21

Actually thinking on it you could probably just pack one warm dress, one cooler dress that is sleeveless (so u could wear a couple if days without it smelling) and a jumper. And some thick warm tights/leggings.

And wear a few extra things obv.

justaweeone · 22/09/2019 17:41

We flew with the in the summer, googled what shops were at duty free and took a carrier bag from super drug with extra stuff in 😆
You can also put lots of stuff in pockets if your coat has them
Also before boarding if you have a cross body bag put in on under your coat and turn it to the back, big scarf, carry your umbrella
Even a big hat with stuff in it if you want to maximise 🤣
I refuse to give them my money other than the flight cost

I wore my walking boots everyday. It snowed on one day and was bitterly cold every day. There are lots of cobbles so wear comfortable footwear. We went to some fairly expensive restaurants but casual wear was fine. It was February when I went. Enjoy!

Snog · 22/09/2019 21:47

If packing light I take my oldest underwear with me, wear it and then chuck it.

Myshitisreal · 22/09/2019 22:41

We were in Prague last year mid November, I had every layer possible expecting freezing and it was extremely mild . I never wore gloves scarf or hat once. If you have any pain issues or feet problems then you will definitely need a change of shoes after the cobbles. Good luck with packing light. Can't understand some people bringing one or two tops for 4 days but each to their own

hilaryguineapig · 22/09/2019 23:39

I hope it's mild.

The light packing is a challenge for the group. I go away for work a lot and always take a proper 10kg carry on case for two nights. This is going to be a struggle but at least we are all in the same boat.

Toiletries and make up are sorted. I've ordered some wide leg trousers and t shirt layers. A longline cashmere jumper would be nice.

Wear your heaviest/chunkier items on the flight.
Don't take pyjamas- wear the pants and t-shirt you've worn that day.
Make up/toiletries- take things that serve more than one purpose.
Stuff clean socks inside your spare shoes.
If all else fails - go shopping while you're there.
