Oh and it rhymes!

I'm getting these for Christmas and I would love to wear them with socks a la the website photos.

I like it and do it. Works best if it looks like you really mean it - a bright, chunky or interesting pair of socks.

Ellapaella · 20/09/2019 10:41

I love the pictures that @chasingseagulls has posted. Would not be brave enough myself though.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/09/2019 10:49

NFL

normal for London

That shot of the woman with the thick grey socks on looks fabulous

inwood · 20/09/2019 10:51

It's awful. But I'm 40 and socks and sandals was a cardinal sin when I was younger. Now it's most definitely a thing.

walkintheparc · 20/09/2019 10:55

Depends what the rest of your style is like - if you have that 'cool girl', slightly undone, quirky look, then sure. If you otherwise dress in Hush and M&S.. maybe not.

Grambler · 20/09/2019 12:01

You might get away with it if you wore these socks: www.amazon.co.uk/Tobar-27520-Sandal-Slipper-Socks/dp/B01MXHKIIQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

BusySittingDown · 20/09/2019 12:17

No no no no no no no!

No.

All the women in those photos look beautiful...from the ankles up.

It's fine in the house or if you're nipping out into the garden but otherwise no.

foxtiger · 20/09/2019 12:20

I think it would work if you're also wearing baggyish trousers and all three are different bright, interesting colours. Not trying to be sizeist, but I think that sort of look also looks better on a reasonably solidly built person than a rather thin one.

Miseryisabutterfly · 20/09/2019 19:12

I like it and would do it

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 20/09/2019 19:37

DH quite often sports this look when camping. He definitely doesn't come across as edgy Grin

Pinkypurple35 · 20/09/2019 19:52

I’ve been doing this for years - I’m well ahead of the curve on this Grin (only in the house though)

RacheyCat · 21/09/2019 02:08

BirkenSocks. Yes. Regularly. And with leggings when I'm going to yoga.

As another poster said, you should wear nice socks which are a different colour to the Birkenstocks themselves.

It rains so much in the summer in China that if I didn't wear socks with my Birkies in the autumn, I'd never get to wear them.

OneOfTheGrundys · 21/09/2019 07:15

Similar to tights/socks and clogs. I wear my Lotta’s with both. And I care not as they are comfy and warm and my comfort trumps it all.

Tanaqui · 21/09/2019 07:27

It's a VSCO girl thing! (Apparently. I may have got the acronym wrong- I'm old!).

chasingseagulls · 21/09/2019 08:37

I believe The Row brand - and the Olsen twins, may be responsible for the latest trend. Personally I think they look great, and the only part of the look of wearing The Row clothes that doesn't cost about £500 an item!

I’m not keen and I think it’s hard to pull off. That said I wouldn’t think twice if I saw someone wearing that combo in London because I think you can basically wear what you want? I live very rurally and I’m always overwhelmed by all the colours and styles and lack of waterproofs in London.

That said, what about rain? It rains quite a lot doesn’t it? And if you need socks then it’s a bit chilly. And damp socks on a chilly day are properly horrible.

Greenglassteacup · 21/09/2019 15:49

Noooooo

MitziK · 21/09/2019 15:51

If you're fifteen, fine. Any older and you're just wrong.

Troels · 21/09/2019 21:34

It's nothing new. I got my first Birks 30 years ago, I wore them with socks in winter even back then as did my friends. It doesn't rain often in California, and so on the rare rain days we wore other shoes, so no soggy socks.
Teens wore them, Mums and grans too, no particular age was attached to the style or lack there of

Lweji · 21/09/2019 21:35

No! God, no!!!

Lweji · 21/09/2019 21:36

For any age or sex. No!

Ginkypig · 21/09/2019 22:09

It is a thing for a certain type of people recently but it's the sort of trend that a small number think is fine but the rest of the world just think NO!

I wish it was an ok thing everyone was fine with because it's so so comfortable! but you just know when you walk out the room half of them just think twat Sad

3dogs2cats · 21/09/2019 22:13

Trying outgreyhair.i think you may be me. How about pleated midi, birkies and socks?

managedmis · 22/09/2019 02:13

Totally fine

LiveInAHidingPlace · 22/09/2019 02:14

Very normal where I live, no one would look twice. I used to hate it and would never wear it myself personally but I think it looks ok.
