Lip balms?

Gertrudesgarden · 19/09/2019 21:22

I'm starting to get my usual cracked, peeling, dry lips. Summer is no problem, and I haven't even put the heating on yet, but I'm getting yukky lips, as I do every single autumn, winter and spring. My skin is fairly dry, sensitive and prone to eczema and redness, but I can keep it tamed more or less...my lips though....it gets painful.

I use Burt's bees lip balms, which are nice, but it doesn't seem to be an actual solution. Is there one? Is there a better product that anyone can suggest please?

Aloe Lips by Forever Living is absolutely fab. It is the only one I use now. You can get it on Amazon.

TantricTwist · 19/09/2019 22:27

Yes just put some sugar in a bit of vaseline to make a lip scrub and gently rub the dead skin off your lips, rub off the residue then apply Burt bee's lip balm.

TantricTwist · 19/09/2019 22:28

I also use vaseline on my lips which always works well.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Either the actual cream itself, or the lip balm (plain or tinted). I find it really makes a difference long term.

Lanolips is amazing. There are various versions, but the 101 ointment is the absolute business for dry lips.

Llioed · 19/09/2019 22:54

I swear by Blistex Relief cream - this works for me. I use it every morning and every night, then I use a normal lip balm during the day (which is usually another Blistex one but not as intense as the Relief cream)

fedup21 · 19/09/2019 22:56

EOS is brilliant.

Nuxe is good if they’re sore.

Propertyofhood · 19/09/2019 22:59

With the Burts Bees lip balm, have you used the actual beeswax one? I have used a few of them and the beeswax one is the only one that actually feels like it's doing something, in fact it's the best lip balm I have used.

chesterfuckingdraws · 19/09/2019 23:03

Brush your lips with s toothbrush or rub with s flannel at night then slather on Carmex or nuxe and reapply as needed during the day. Drink plenty fluids too.
My lips used to go through a really scabby stage st this time of year but this sorted them out.

Another fan of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour ...
I buy little pots from boots to put it in and have one in every room 😁
If I leave home without it .... I go back !!!!

GinLemonade · 19/09/2019 23:09

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden 8 hour! I was worried at first as it is pricey but it works amazing! I must have around 20 different lip balms carmex, burt's bees, blistex.. none work apart from Elizabeth Arden! I bought the duo set from groupon which includes the lip scrub, this is great and also leaves your lips so soft without even having to use the lip balm

Drogosnextwife · 19/09/2019 23:11

Mini tub of vaseline. Not the big ones the formula is too thick. I've been carrying everywhere with me for the last 17 years and never found anything that compares.

augustusglupe · 19/09/2019 23:12

Ive used Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip salve for about 20 years! I’ve tried other cheaper ones but always come back to EA

Drogosnextwife · 19/09/2019 23:12

I can't go more than an hour during the day without putting it on. I hate the feeling of dry lips.

puppymouse · 19/09/2019 23:14

Swear by Carmex - the original yellow and red tube.

I put it on after I brush my teeth and it seems to work perfectly.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 19/09/2019 23:15

I used to have the same - dry cracked lips every winter. I swear by Blister daily lip conditioner every morning after brushing my teeth. Wonderful stuff.

PersonaNonGarter · 19/09/2019 23:16

This the Kiehls one is the best. You can get it from here Space NK It’s a tenner but it is really worth it. Unflavoured and unscented - it fixes your lips really fast.

MissCharleyP · 19/09/2019 23:17

La Roche Posay Cicaplast or Eucerin Aquaphor (in tub not tube). I have a terrible habit of picking and biting and either one of these is what sorts it when I’ve gone too far.

SteelRiver · 19/09/2019 23:49

I use Carmex at the moment, and at bedtime I melt coconut oil with my fingers and massage that in.

I haven't been without some form of lip balm for over 35 years. I read that the skin of your lips gets used to the balm and stops producing it's own natural oils. Bit late for me now, I guess.

Thanks for starting the thread, OP. There are a couple of suggestions I'll try. Hope you find a solution.

sausagedogpookie · 20/09/2019 00:41

I’ve used all sorts;Carmex,Blistex,Neutrogena,Burt’s Bees,Nuxe,Creme de la Mer and on and on.....! After trying many over the last 25years,I also always go back to EArden original 8 hour cream (it seems better than the EA lip balm in a tube and the EA intensive lip balm in a glass pot?). Best is EA lip balm in a round tin, which they don’t seem to sell in shops at the mo (maybe will at Xmas?) but I discovered you can pre-order duo packs of it at duty free and collect at UK airports..result! I stocked up this summer!
I also have a tube of Ameliorate lip balm by the bed,for nighttime. It’s like a cream (not a balm,as such) and gets my 2nd place vote.

sausagedogpookie · 20/09/2019 01:08

£12.80 for two. All hail Worlddutyfree! (Ok,so you do need a plane ticket to somewhere,so not exactly like popping to the shops but if you are off on hol anyway and you love EA balm in a tin...stock up!) You can sometimes get it on the plane too but it’s usually in a set with other stuff (that I don’t want) or comes in the lipstick version, which is not as good imo.

Carmex in the pot for night time application. Carmex in the stick form (not the squeezy Tube) for daytime with spf.

Rolls Royce treatment for overnight is Nude in the pot. Miracle worker.

Sarcelle · 20/09/2019 07:55

Not nude but Nuxe

Idontneeditatall · 20/09/2019 08:08

Carmex
