A cleanser that actually removes make up

Is there such a thing? Even with my latest Rituals expensive, oil-based one I can see traces of foundation in my pores. Don't want to scrub away at the skin either.
I was told to avoid micellar water as have dry, reddish (not yet rosacea) skin in the chin and cheek areas.
I used Lavera before this and Neals Yard Calendula. Despite the prices, neither gets the make up fully off.
Any ideas?

High end - Elemis cleansing balm (not for eyes though)
Then a cream cleanser - foreo (day or night version depending on time.

But my new favourite which takes off everything is wonderbalm by a pony called Steve, it melts everything off.
I tend to do a cream cleaner after that too - CeraVe is nice

wonderbalm

Another vote for Ultrabland remover with a hot muslin cloth

Breastfeedingworries · 17/09/2019 23:00

I use baby oil, great on eye lashes too!

BusterGonad · 18/09/2019 05:21

I've not read all the responses but I do not double cleanse, for me it takes all the natural oils from my skin and caused red bumps and eczema. My skin is quite sensitive and dry prone to redness.

redchocolatebutton · 18/09/2019 05:48

I have eczema as well, if Indon't remove the make up/grime of the day in the evening my skin is not happy.

BusterGonad · 18/09/2019 05:50

I cleanse (obviously) with a creamy cleanser and then wipe of with damp cotton pads, but that's it, my skin needs moisture, I do not cleanse it within an inch of its life as it needs its natural oils left. Facial washes are a huge no also!

Charley50 · 18/09/2019 06:04

I use eye make up remover and then just use a flannel and hottish water on my face. Then moisturise.

Charley50 · 18/09/2019 06:16

But after reading the thread I'm going to get an oil cleanser or the body shop one.

frugalkitty · 18/09/2019 08:00

I really like the Body Shop cleansing butter, I just have to be careful round my eyes with it or it makes them a bit bleary. I also like the Elemis balm although I'm beginning to find it too strongly scented. I'm with Buster though and don't double cleanse, my skin feels stripped very easily and I don't wear much make up so a good, single cleanse with a balm and warm cloth and water does the trick.

Soola · 18/09/2019 08:26

@Charley50 you might benefit from a toner or using witch hazel after washing your face and before putting on moisturiser.

Rathkelter · 18/09/2019 12:00

@julilou interesting your comment about the Asian products. I hadn't thought of Muji.

I use Garnier soft rose cleanser and then a muslin cloth or clean flannel with hot water, followed by moisturiser.

Anne French. It’s £3 in Boots and Superdrug. Apply it with cotton wool. It removes EVERY last trace of make-up and it’ll be great for your dry skin too.

justilou1 · 18/09/2019 12:24

@Rathkelter- it’s my oil cleanser of choice because it’s cheap, virtually unscented (the fragrance is so far down the inci list and almost undetectable), it is effective, doesn’t irritate and you can buy different sized bottles to try it. I have the 400ml bottle and I am pretty sure I have been using it for over a year. The only issue is that I do get bored and tempted to try other things, regret it (rosacea) and keep coming back to it. Please make sure you get the thinner version.

Ive recently bought nivea lotion after looking for a cheap and simple cleanser, its actually really good at removing make up, much better than micellar water and even specialist eye make up removers. Makes me wonder how much make up used to get left on my face before!

happytobemrsg · 01/10/2019 22:50

I also use the Clinique balm - I love it

BusterGonad · 02/10/2019 04:51

I've started using this, I quite like it, mascara needs a few going overs but that's okay. I love the smell of it too. It's got a high end old fashioned smell iyswim!

I second superdrug plus flannel. I double cleanse with it if wearing makeup.

Mummybares · 02/10/2019 07:14

Virgin coconut oil from aldi or lidl jar for under 3 quids, even stubborn mascara comes off. Hot flannel and bobs your uncle.
