A cleanser that actually removes make up

Is there such a thing? Even with my latest Rituals expensive, oil-based one I can see traces of foundation in my pores. Don't want to scrub away at the skin either.
I was told to avoid micellar water as have dry, reddish (not yet rosacea) skin in the chin and cheek areas.
I used Lavera before this and Neals Yard Calendula. Despite the prices, neither gets the make up fully off.
Any ideas?

Blue Nivea.

Kathyskonfessions · 16/09/2019 21:06

Another vote here as well for Clinique take the day off balm, literally melts the make up off your face, fantastic stuff!

buckeejit · 16/09/2019 21:06

Uns Brennan vit c is vg. Also love Elemis, Emma Hardie & dermalogica pre cleanse, defo use a flannel. You should change daily but I use for 2 days ok.

Will try rosehip & the squalane. Good cleanser is hard to find. I like a good fragrance though

Shmithecat2 · 16/09/2019 21:09

Another vote for double cleansing. First cleanse with an oil or balm (I too LOVE Superfacialist Vit C oil) to remove make up/soft etc, then a cream or gel cleanser for second cleanse to actually clean your face. Superdrugs Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleanser is lovely and cheap. Yes, use a flannel and water to rinse both off, change every day.

ginyogarepeat · 16/09/2019 21:10

I use oil based cleanser, rinse off with warm water and muslin cloth, then cream cleanser for second one, again rinsed off with cloth. Then toner and it's shifted!
Daisy - absolutely not the same thing! One wash only if you wear foundation etc will never remove it all, the second cleanse is a definite necessity if you wear makeup!

Shmithecat2 · 16/09/2019 21:10

Or, if you like higher end stuff, Emma Hardie Moringa balm, then Oskia Renaissance gel. Both glorious.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 16/09/2019 21:14

Third (fourth?) vote for Clinique take the day off balm!

I’m another double cleanser. I’ve always done it, even before it became a “thing”. Surely it’s just common sense that you need to take off your make up before you can actually wash your skin, otherwise you’re just smearing make up everywhere.

redchocolatebutton · 16/09/2019 21:26

with a gothy past I can confirm that neither oil cleanser nor soap on their own shifts waterproof mascara.
it needs both to be presentable to grandma

Rathkelter · 16/09/2019 21:40

For eyes, I use Bodyshop Camomile oil-free eye make-up remover. Hands down it's the best for eyes and fairly cheap. No stinging, and removes my Max Factor mascara very quickly. But I don't buy waterproof mascara.

Double cleansing is important. Especially as we should be using fac50 all year round. An oil cleanser will break down the SPF. Then, a second cleanse to actually clean the skin!

confusedjuly2019 · 16/09/2019 21:58

Baby wipes all the way Grin

Kathyskonfessions · 16/09/2019 22:16

I use plain old Vaseline to remove eye make up it’s the only thing I can use that doesn’t cause irritation as my eyes are really sensitive, it even works on waterproof mascara

combatbarbie · 16/09/2019 22:19

I swear by the camomile butter from body shop.... My going out mascara can usually see me with panda eyes for a few days... This stuff just melts it and the rest away. And no I'm not a rep lol

rededucator · 16/09/2019 22:21

Another vote for Elemis cleansing balm followed by a face wash, toner, face oil and moisturizer.

ginyogarepeat · 16/09/2019 22:55

And yes to body shop camomile eye makeup remover - I have tried so many, including several that cost a lot more than it does, and it's the only thing that properly removes my daily eyeliner and mascara.

jellycatspyjamas · 16/09/2019 22:58

Or, if you like higher end stuff, Emma Hardie Moringa balm, then Oskia Renaissance gel. Both glorious.

Another vote for both of these - the Oskia one is like cleansing your face with Turkish delight.... smells divine.

WeeM · 16/09/2019 23:02

Another one singing the praises of the body shop camomile cleansing balm, it really does melt everything away with no effort at all...even face paints! I find it works best with their soft cloth (it’s that type that goes hard when it dries).

Butterymuffin · 16/09/2019 23:09

Simple eye make up remover works for that, and I use either an oil or foam cleanser then remove that with a Ramer soft flannel (the goes hard when dry ones).

redchocolatebutton · 17/09/2019 05:56

wipes don't work for me.
they sting and don't get rid of eye make up. and they leave a slimey residue on my skin.
the flannel does a nice job (and doesn't end up in landfill)

BobbinThreadbare123 · 17/09/2019 09:14

Clinique sell the big TTDO balm pot for £25. I bought mine in Feb and it's still going. Only need a bit. A bigger outlay for a lot less overall.

kjhkj · 17/09/2019 09:15

coconut oil. £1.99 from the supermarket

BobbinThreadbare123 · 17/09/2019 09:15

Oh also a goth here. Lots and lots of black eye makeup and dark lipstick comes right off with a double cleanse.

verticality · 17/09/2019 09:16

I really love Eve Lom.

thinkfast · 17/09/2019 09:36

Eve lom

MinesaPinot · 17/09/2019 09:40

Take off make up with micellar water and separate eye make up remover, then Clinique Take the Day off balm with a warm flannel. Works a treat.
