Help! Which boots? Pics

I am feeling incapable of making a decision between these boots and I really don't need both pairs!

Roll top ones - nearly £200 (eek). Have loved them for ages - particularly the roll top - and finally succumbed. Lovely soft leather. But... do they look a bit wide around my calves and perhaps they feel a bit big, clunk a bit when I walk (could obviously try a smaller size).

Suede slouch - £75 (reduced from £155 - bargain Grin). Really comfortable, perfect fit. But ... are they likely to get ruined quickly? Do they look a bit, well, less stylish or something than the other pair?

Also a bit worried about spending loads on ankle boots when they've now been around for years and may soon feel dated. I'm normally good at making decisions but feel idiotically incapable on this GrinConfused

Please help!

I wonder if those who call them dated skew older......

People seem to draw away from style elements which they have not encountered since youth, and the style here is reminiscent of a certain generation. That alone does not make them dated or ugly.

I’ve noticed these style are returning for a few yrs now, and I admit they do go well with slim leg pants/skinny jeans. I prefer the slouchy pair, they feel more sharp and contemporary, and I imagine they will translate better across different outfits and occasions than the roll tops.

Neither of them are my ‘style’ but that is not the point.

Idontneeditatall · 12/09/2019 11:47

It’s not the 80’s that they remind me of although they are quite 80’s, so that’s not my issue music, but I still think they look dated. About 10 -15 years ago there were a lot of these about but I haven’t seen any recently.
They also look much much cheaper than you say they cost OP, for these reasons I wouldn’t keep either pair

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/09/2019 11:48

I don't like either pair, sorry, but the roll top ones don't look like they fit at all both on the calf and around the foot. Definitely not worth splurging £200 on.

ItWillAllBeOkInTheEnd · 12/09/2019 11:52

No to both boots from me. I'd look at Next boots for some inspiration. Dress is lovely.

ellsbellls · 12/09/2019 13:55

Sorry- had to do some work, damn it!!

Thanks for all the comments. I guess I wasn't sure about the boots, hence posting.

I'm 42, to answer a pp. The midlife blog is very helpful, so thanks!

Still unsure about what colour/style boots or shoes to go for with that particular dress. Part of the problem is that I don't buy many shoes and wanted them to go with lots of other things (particular black as I have other dresses/skirts which could do with a shoe update). Another issue is that that dress needs a bit of a heel otherwise it looks too long on me. Maybe I just need a few new pairs! Grin I'm now erring towards getting some black knee boots.....

ellsbells Black knee length ones would be great I thunk and seem to be a lot around at the moment

championquartz · 12/09/2019 14:42

The boots aren't my style but if I had to chose, I'd go for the slouchy. They're much better.

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/09/2019 16:36

I actually love the slouchy ones on you op

Ellapaella · 12/09/2019 17:57

The slouchy ones actually look a bit like Isabel Marant dedie boots so not sure that you can call them dated...
Anyway.. I don't think they are awful at all OP but I don't think the colour/style is right for that particular dress. The ones that Pinkyy linked would be better but it all depends on what occasion you will be wearing the dress, I'd style with different shoes for casual versus going out.

ellsbellls · 12/09/2019 20:34

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I'd be wearing the dress for work in the main. I've worn it a few times with white superga's (yes, probably dated Grin) and had lovely comments but they feel a bit too flat/low. I may get some chunkier ones which will work with lots of other outfits too but I definitely need something a bit smarter to go with the dress for meetings etc Does anyone think that chunky patent black brogues would work?

Thanks for the advice so far Smile

the 80's is back with a vengeance next year so you'll be ahead of the curve. The slouchy boots are great: (I've just bought a similar pair in black) the folded pirate ones are grim (imo)

suede protector sprays are good, but you have to reapply after every wear and buy a special brush so you can brush off the dirt.

Also, with the suede, you can always re-dye them with suede dye when they start looking tatty: suede dyes marvellously: punch shoe dye is around £5 a bottle, and you can get a whole range of colours...

Leftielefterson · 12/09/2019 20:37

Dress lovely. Boots aren’t nice.

clpsmum · 12/09/2019 20:39

I love the slouch ones not keen on other pair

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/09/2019 20:48

Sorry, boots are horrendous. Maybe it's because one is folded over and one isn't in each picture...I can't get past that.

I'd wear red shoes with that dress-it's a gorgeous colour.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/09/2019 21:14

I think a stack heel tan/chestnut leather knee length boot would work with the dress or jeans. Try Arket.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/09/2019 21:20

Higher ones = Arket

Slightly lower =Hobbs (in sale too)

I love the tan/brown leather pull on boots that sezane have at the moment. Sort of late 70s/early 80s. Very chic with the type of dress you put up. Very Love Story.

Atalune · 12/09/2019 21:22

these ones

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/09/2019 21:23

Mint velvet have an off white slouchy leather pair if this is still what you are after....

I like the slouch ones...

AnyFucker · 12/09/2019 21:44

I wouldn't give you tuppence for 'em

sorrythisusernameisinuse · 12/09/2019 21:45

Really don't like them sorry

SouthWestmom · 12/09/2019 22:11

But I imagine your style is maybe more dainty?

Maybe fitted ankle boots?

Those look like 80s stuff.

fiorentina · 13/09/2019 13:02

I think the slouch ones and that dress are on trend. I also think platform brogues could look good - maybe silver ones. Or I wear something like these www.johnlewis.com/kin-poppy-cone-heel-ankle-boots-white-patent-leather/p3953394 - that fit better than these on the model, to work with a similar dress.
