MUCH cheaper alternative to Rolex datejust?

My ex gave me one, but when we separated I gave it back - which I’m regretting as a) it was beautiful and b) he was a knob.

So, if I love the silver Chunky strap style, classic face, looks expensive / quality but with a budget the size of a mars bar, what would you recommend?!

I’m torn, as I don’t want him to feel sorry for me (or try and embarrass me?) if he sees me replicating it, but equally, that’s the style I love?! I should go for something completely different shouldn’t I? Gah!

Thank you all in advance for helping me pick a fuck You watch that ticks these boxes!

Blueuggboots · 08/09/2019 19:53

Fossil have some nice ones like this?

Blueuggboots · 08/09/2019 19:56

Michael Kors half price too?!

Helpimfalling · 08/09/2019 19:59

How cheap as you can get some amazing second hand ones and put it away till you pay it off where I use to work

JoJoSM2 · 08/09/2019 20:05

Rolex styles are very classic so there will be loads of cheaper alternatives. Just have a trip down the high street. High Street brands like Sekonda tend to do inspired stuff.

twirlypoo · 08/09/2019 20:11

Now I would normally stay away from Michael Kors but I love that one you linked too! It’s a bargain as well!

Thank you so much for the links - all on the right tracks!

Help ultimately I would like to buy a second hand one, but realistically I will have to wait a year or so to save up. I am so regretting just not keeping the one he gave me BlushGrin

Well to answer this accurately we'd need to know

What size datejust you had
Jubilee or oyster style bracelet
Colour
Automatic movement or quartz
Price range you're happy to spend

Let us know those and we can give some great options.

twirlypoo · 09/09/2019 19:13

It was the 36inch jubilee strap with diamond bevel. I think I would prefer the 34inch if poss, and I don’t mind what colour face I don’t think.

I’m not looking to replace it exactly, But get something I love as much? Does that make sense? The aspects I liked were the chunky strap and the sense of weight.

Budget is flexible. Because I’m saving up to buy another one (and am poor under my own steam Grin) I don’t want to spend more than £500, but realistically, closer to the £100 ish mark would be better as there’s no point spending lots on something I will replace.

I don’t know! It’s a tall order I know. My wrist feels empty and I don’t want to feel that what I’m wearing is second best, but I need to cut my cloth accordingly too. Blurgh Sad

Tissot,I think mine was £300. I love it.

Dorsetcamping · 09/09/2019 19:18

I feel your pain OP. Not Rolex league but I had a beautiful Tag watch with diamonds dotted round the dial. I lost it in a house move (and stupidly hadn't insured it as a separate item). I am desperate for a replacement but no way I can afford the same watch Sad

Woodlandwitch · 09/09/2019 19:29

I’d love a Rolex too (despite the fact that if I had one everyone would assume it was a fake)

I saved up for a Tag instead. It was second hand still but from watchfinder so all guaranteed and was a good as new when it came

Woodlandwitch · 09/09/2019 19:30

How much are you currently aiming to save per month for your Rolex and when do you hope to be buying one?

coginamachine · 09/09/2019 19:45

I feel your pain but I'd be reluctant to try to replace it with a similar shape and sized cheap version you will only regret it as it won't replace what you had. If it were me I would look at other styles of watches in your price bracket find one you actually like and rock a different look until you save up for your next Rolex. There are lots of good Scandinavian minimalist brands in your price range that I quite like at the moment.

Puppylucky · 09/09/2019 19:46

Just to add that it may be worth your while looking on the sale sites - Brand Alley and Secret Sales. They nearly always have watches on there. I bought a beautiful Mathis Montabon watch from secret sales a few years ago which I am currently mourning as I have lost it :-(

Woodlandwitch · 09/09/2019 20:31

Would a Longines scratchiest the intermediate itch?
Might have to be second hand at the price you want to pay but it should still feel special and wouldn’t be wasted once you save up for your Rolex

Woodlandwitch · 09/09/2019 20:34

You could go vintage?

MUCH cheaper alternative to Rolex datejust?
BubblesBuddy · 09/09/2019 20:38

A Rolex Datejust would never be powered by a battery! The beauty of Rolex is that they are proper watches! The diamond bezel puts the price up but you could look on line at somewhere like John Lewis and see what floats your boat. I have a Rolex and don’t like copies!

JoJoSM2 · 09/09/2019 20:59

Why don't you just get a men's Sekonda or other cheap high street brand? Won't be as chunky( hollow metal bracelet etc) but will keep the time better.

SandraOhshair · 09/09/2019 22:01

OP, I think, while you save for the real thing, go the other end and wear a Swatch. Anything else is going to look like a cheaper replacement (which it is).

Throwaway4ccount · 09/09/2019 23:29

Hi Twirley,
Not a mum, actually a 27 year old single male, but your question came up in my news feed. If you can stretch, maybe check out the Tudor Glamour Date. They come in several metal varients, face colours and also different sizes if Im not mistaken. Theyre also the sister comapy to Rolex and have the same amazing quality of a Rolex without the extra £3000+. Hope you find whst you're looking for!

Throwaway4ccount · 09/09/2019 23:36

Rolex did make several quartz movements and are highly sought after today. The OysterQuartz to name one.
