Lip fillers, your experiences?

I have a consultation this coming Tuesday with a view to having fillers, 1ml.

Does it hurt? Will 1ml be enough to make a notable difference? Do you regret having them or glad that you have?

I had 1ml in June. I absolutely did not want the big fat juicy lips that are in fashion at the moment - I simply wanted to add some volume to my top lip which was so thin, it was practically non existent.

I was pleased with the results but I wasn’t expecting it to bruise and swell as much as it did. I would say it took a good 3 to 4 days before I could stop coming up with excuses about how the baby had bashed me in the mouth etc etc.

I think the results were good - not a single person commented/noticed but I finally felt able to wear lipstick as I now have a top lip.

But would I do it again? I’m not sure. It was expensive and I actually felt a bit silly afterwards that I’d spent so much money on altering my physical appearance when I’m normally very anti Botox etc.

envelopeofpubes · 06/09/2019 20:18

I’ve had my top lip done twice to balance my naturally fuller bottom one. It hurts a lot (especially when you have it topped up and it’s filler on filler), even with the numbing cream, and I was bruised for nearly a week. The difference is very subtle and I like the result but after having it done twice I doubt i’ll do it again. Not worth the expense and recovery time.

Blockedandfarted · 06/09/2019 20:52

It certainly isn't cheap is it. Usually I can't afford to spend this much money on luxuries but I've had a nice return this year so wanted to treat myself after a crappy few months.

How long did your volume last ladies?

Had mine done in April - only 0.5 because I wanted subtle enhancement and honestly it was probably enough - although if I’m not pregnant this month (TTC) 😂 I’m going to treat myself to another 0.5.

No pain at all - had a numbing cream on first.
The next day they were SWOLLEN. No really bruising only a little but HUGE. I panicked and googled lip filler dissolving.
A few days later and I was obsessed. 😂

Had it done 5 times stopped as evefytime was so unpredictable. The bruising that lasted at least a week. Lumps and the pain was worse than childbirth for me. I even had the cream on for half an hour each time. I had it done by someone who was voted best in some cosmo magazine. So expensive so now I think maybe in the future for an occasion way before hand. Like when I get married but not worth it overall. I think ask if it has lidocaine in as only one time out of the five it was bearable. All done by same person. I also found I obsessed about my top lip where as now I don't think about it

brookelopez · 06/09/2019 21:09

I already have full lips but wanted to even them out a bit. I didn't really notice 1ml, waited a month and went back for another ml and got the result I wanted. since then I've had another ml as a 6 month top up. I'm pregnant now so hoping it lasts until the baby is here Grin
I go to the neon vault in Stratford upon Avon. she's fab and doesn't do the awful over filled lips.

brookelopez · 06/09/2019 21:13

to add, my lady uses numbing cream and leaves it on for 15 mins before she injects. you can feel a slight sting but it's not unbearable. I didn't bruise a lot as I already have full lips so there wasn't much stretching of my skin. here's a photo of the lips healed, about 3 months after my last treatment. please ignore my pregnancy skin 🙄

Mooey, any chance we could see an image of your lips before the procedure.
Where I live is a fairly affluent, trendy area and almost every woman I see has had obvious filler.
My top lip is getting a bit thin and undefined, would consider very subtle filler.

Historydweeb · 06/09/2019 21:22

Go to the consultant clinic. Or at least look at their work if you like the natural look, they're magicians and take a really pro active stance on safety plus they give you a full dental block and use a canula rather than a needle

Blockedandfarted · 06/09/2019 23:11

Mooey and Brooke yours both look great!

I've attached a photo of a before and after, done at the clinic I'm going to. The lady had 1ml and I think the difference is fab.

I've been wondering whether 1ml would be enough as I have very small lips, but if the attached photo is anything to go by then I think it just might be the perfect amount to get the result I'm looking for.

I must say the thought of it hurting more than childbirth is daunting Grin

thank you. haha it's not that painful! you might find that 1ml shrinks after a few weeks and you prefer the fuller look, so prepare to go back after 4 weeks for amother ml! I also had my nasal folds filled in in January and don't need them doing again yet, hoping they hold off until the baby is out too Grin

brookelopez · 06/09/2019 23:17

if you have very small lips, the person doing them may not even offer the full 1ml at first so you're not over filled. that's when people get that filler tache going on.

Mummyoftwo91 · 06/09/2019 23:21

I had mine done in may, they've gone down loads and I think I'm deffo having another 1ml put in! Once the swelling goes down they won't be as noticeable

TimeForNewStart · 07/09/2019 00:28

I would be very surprised if that pic is for just 1ml. I have had 1ml and nowhere near that amount of difference.

I didn’t think it hurt much at all, but have been surprised by how lumpy they have been, though this isn’t really visible.

TimeForNewStart · 07/09/2019 00:29

Or I suspect that photo is immediately afterwards when they are swollen and will go down a lot.

TheDragonFromDreams · 07/09/2019 00:32

How long does it last? Is there a permanent version?

brookelopez · 07/09/2019 01:44

supposedly they last up to a year. but it depends on how fast your body breaks the filler down. if you have a few top ups then it lasts longer and needs less to 'build' on each time.
I think you can get lip implants but I don't know anything about them

PrimeraVez · 07/09/2019 04:09

I had mine done in June and I already think most of it is gone but maybe I’m just used to it? Will try and find a before and after pic...

PrimeraVez · 07/09/2019 04:22

Here’s my before and after (the after is 3 months on) See what I mean about it being super subtle - I just needed some definition in my top lip so I actually had something to put lipstick on.

But then it’s such a small change, the expense and recovery really doesn’t seem worth it. I’m glad it did it though, if only for me to realise that the ‘problem’ with my lips that had bothered me for so long, really isn’t an issue.

It is quite sore. (Most painful dermal filler treatment)

However your injector will likely use a numbing cream (ensure this is on for a minimum of 15 mins). Also I like to give clients some ice for the final minute while I'm prepping the trolley.

When clients come in for just 0.5ml they are always disappointed once the swelling goes down. I always recommend going for at least 0.8ml for any change.

Your body is likely to metabolise (break down) the filler quite quickly after just one treatment. So it's recommended to have another treatment a couple of months later. Then it should last around 6-9 months (brand dependent)

Good luck. You will love your lips and it's only 5 minutes of pain Smile

Mooey89 · 07/09/2019 06:28

@IdblowJonSnow
Sure - it’s very subtle but I wanted mine evened out with more balance to my bottom lip.

Mummyoftwo91 · 07/09/2019 10:05

This was me right after 1ml they were very swollen but settled down to the second picture, which wasn't hugely different to my natural lips I did have some volume already but wanted them more symmetrical and fuller, I will be getting another 1ml though as it goes down loads!

Is there a permanent version

The permanent version is silicone, and you definitely don’t want that!

Mooey89 · 07/09/2019 12:47

Volift is supposed to last for longer - 12-18 months
