Jeans intervention, without tears or £100s!

Where might be good to go to find a good selection of jeans to try on?

I think I need the bra intervention but for jeans!

Middling budget, eg £60/£70 max maybe?

Have had so many years of angst in jeans shops and making bad choices. Had nice Diesel flares once but was younger and thinner then. Skinnies that emphasise thighs (carrot shape). Ones that initially look good but quickly go baggy (eg Gap). “Shaping” ones that couldn’t breath in (Next).

A friend with a similar size / shape has some Levis that look great on her.

A big Topshop would be a good place to start. They have a huge selection of flattering jeans for all shapes and sizes.

Otherwise a department store is probably your best bet as they will stock multiple brands.

Loopytiles · 05/09/2019 17:09

Feel too old to go into TopShop!

Department store and a super honest friend perhaps?

I don’t trust the jeans to stay similar after the wash! So many times they’ve gone baggy.

Next are good. But if you are shorter try not to go for petite as they trim all over for some reason

breaconoptimist · 05/09/2019 17:15

I’ve had luck with autograph jeans in m&s and boden. Hobbs have some flattering jeans too if you get them at 20 percent off.

Thecaravan · 05/09/2019 17:16

Topshop jeans are amazing! You're never too old for them honestly. There's a style and fit for everyone and they are just so comfy and last forever.

Loopytiles · 05/09/2019 19:46

Thanks for the tips all. Might be funny to brave the big London Topshop after a VERY lengthy break!

I'm 39 and shop in topshop, their jeans are great

WhatsInAName19 · 05/09/2019 19:53

My favourite jeans for the last few years have been River Island Amelie skinny jeans. The mid blue ones with ripped hems. They have loads of versions of "Amelie" and some of them are made of awful fabric, really thin and cheap. But the specific ones I buy, I'm really happy with. I used to like the low rise Diesel skinnies and flares but my post-10lb baby and C section body is not really low rise friendly.

Annasgirl · 05/09/2019 19:54

Hi Loopy, firstly, you are never too old for Topshop (my mum shopped in the Irish equivalent until she was in her 70's).

I am currently in the same situation as I exit skinny jeans (although I am very slim I have athletic thighs so really they don't flatter me) and I am heading to Zara tomorrow to get some straight leg jeans. I'll let you know how I get on. They have loads and loads of styles, shapes and types of denim from the €19.99 to about €50 for top of the range (women's - I call them mature woman jeans) - these ones are usually more stretchy and have better fabric.

I also rate M and S - again my mum adored them (autograph for the very stylish older woman - you probably are closer in age to me than her!!!!).

Iwantmychairback · 05/09/2019 19:59

T. K Maxx??
I’ve just bought two pairs from there. Some mid blue washed look for £17 and a brilliant pair of dark, 7 for all mankind, which fit like a glove, and were £30.00.

IsolaPribby · 05/09/2019 19:59

Sainsbury's Tu jeans are fantastic. Often mentioned on here. You could get several pairs for your budget. Grin

Loopytiles · 05/09/2019 20:01

More good tips, thanks v much!

WhatsInAName19 I hear you on low rise!

M&S have sent me an email enticing me with their extremely soft jeans. I'm tempted.

EatenByDinosaurs · 05/09/2019 20:45

Not Your Daughter's Jeans are absolutely brilliant, comfiest jeans I've ever worn and the most flattering too. I love the skinny ones and the boyfriend style - beware, they do have some truly fugly specimens too!

I'm not sure how they're priced in the UK, but my London based friend gets them from TK Maxx, and usually pays £30 for them, or thereabouts.

AnyFucker · 05/09/2019 20:55

River Island all the way

I have been wearing their jeans for 30 years

Mixingitall · 05/09/2019 20:57

Gap!

CtrlAltDelight · 05/09/2019 21:07

M&S Lily slim jeans work for me - I have to buy them in long as I'm not a fan of ankle-grazers but they're mid-rise and adequately accommodate my shapely hips.

The black ones are reduced to £12.50 at the moment too.

Tidypidy · 05/09/2019 21:11

I found a cracking pair of jeans in fat face recently.

Ginfordinner · 05/09/2019 21:12

Matalan

Persea · 05/09/2019 21:16

Topshop have pissed me off. I’ve been wearing Leigh for years. But they’ve started doing vanity sizing AND the quality has gone to shit. The last pair I bought go baggy at the knee after a few hours wear.
So great post op. I’m watching with interest.

Persea · 05/09/2019 21:18

Colleagues have recommended Primark supersoft skinny - I think they’re about £12. I haven’t yet been to a Primark to purchase any, but they are on my list to try as they’re so cheap.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 06/09/2019 13:30

Levi's all the way. I have given up on any other jean.

Loopytiles · 06/09/2019 13:38

Levis do appeal as my friend’s looked so good. Have never owned any as had the same body shape as a teen and never found any that suited me in the trendy jeans shops of the 90s!

I have bought some lovely soft cords from Top Shop today. Now that really is harking back to my 70's childhood....

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2019 14:22

Gap? Top Shop. M&S
Take a small mirror for checking the rear view. Try different sizes.
Levi's do a range of 'curves'. They tend to have really small front pockets, which I don't like in mine.
