Jeans intervention, without tears or £100s!

Where might be good to go to find a good selection of jeans to try on?

I think I need the bra intervention but for jeans!

Middling budget, eg £60/£70 max maybe?

Have had so many years of angst in jeans shops and making bad choices. Had nice Diesel flares once but was younger and thinner then. Skinnies that emphasise thighs (carrot shape). Ones that initially look good but quickly go baggy (eg Gap). “Shaping” ones that couldn’t breath in (Next).

A friend with a similar size / shape has some Levis that look great on her.

I'm 51 and still wear TopShop Joni jeans, great fit and wide range of types/colours of denim. However, I've had the same 4 pairs of Levi's for over 5 years and they're still in great shape, the ultimate jeans for me I just don't often wear them for work as they're a bit pricier than topshop

MustardScreams · 06/09/2019 14:28

Topshop all the way. Their Jamie jeans are the best I’ve found anywhere.

nothingwittyhere · 06/09/2019 14:32

Levi's have stopped doing their Curve ranges. And yes, if you want to fit even a tissue in your jeans pocket, let alone a phone, avoid! Pity as their jeans tend to look good, but I hate this sexist approach they have to pockets. Their men's jeans have deep pockets, why can't ours?

Metempsychosis · 06/09/2019 14:32

Placemarking for suggestions because I need a new black pair.

Currently wearing a very comfortable pair of Massimo Duttis from a charity shop. Not the most fashionable but a great fit.

Loopytiles · 06/09/2019 14:41

Oooh, what colour cords AF?

Don’t mind not being able to use pockets, never use them as have enough lumps and bumps without stuff bulging too, and tend to lose stuff. Handbags a far easier purchase than jeans!

Another issue, past and present, is store mirrors that am sure make you look thinner.

Some of the Levi’s jeans are half price on the website

catwithflowers · 06/09/2019 14:45

My Levi’s are better than any I’ve ever had. Such a good fit. I should add that a family member works there so I get 40% discount otherwise they would be a bit pricey. 😊

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2019 14:47

Some shop mirrors make you look longer. Your face will look longer too.

I'm convinced that with jeans you get what you pay for. And that it is worth going for a brand that specialises in jeans.

I've not really found any high street jeans that are properly well cut, and don't sag/bag or look all pouchy around the crotch area (or the opposite, camel toe effect). In the past I'd find myself buying multiple pairs of high street jeans and then not wearing them cos they looked horrible, so decided to invest in slightly higher end denim and really think its worth it.

Levis, Diesel (I have a couple of pairs of Sandy jeans that are a really nice shape and wear very well), Seven for all mankind or Citizens of Humanity (sale) - all great and worth the extra expense IMO.

John Lewis- lots of different brands/ labels within the same store. Look on the inside labels for a higher percentage of lycra/ elastane- but not so high that they become shapewear jeans or jeggings.
I like about 3-5% and won't buy anything which isn't a bit stretchy.
Know what you mean about Gap jeans so haven't bought them for years. They look great but after one wear they bag at the knees and waist.

AnyFucker · 06/09/2019 17:30

@Loopytiles the rust colour. So soft and comfy.
