What is this style and where can I buy it?!

Went on holiday to France. I absolutely was blown away by how lovely the vast majority of the women looked. Lots of linen fabrics/cream/white/blush. Crochet tops/chinos.

I've attached some pictures that semi capture the look. Is it called something specific? Any idea what shops stock this kind of thing as their style? I think Zara is the only one I can think of and that's because in the city, there was a huge, beautiful Zara! Any others?

Were you in Nice by any chance?

Ellapaella · 21/08/2019 22:43

I love those trousers so if you track them down please share!

DeedleTwee · 21/08/2019 22:44

I look at H&M for the trousers, cropped paperbag trousers and the linen top. The shirt dress is nice. M&S have them in the sale but not in that colour.

DeedleTwee · 21/08/2019 22:46

I've got a horrible feeling it just won't look the same on me in the uk Grin

There were loads of dresses about similar to the middle pic earlier in the summer. asos, next and warehouse definitely had them but I think there may have been sales since.

DeedleTwee · 21/08/2019 22:54

Bugger. I had hoped someone would pop along and say "Oh yes, that style is called xxxxx and you can buy it all year round at xxxxx". I'm in the process of losing weight so can't even raid the sales Sad

I have paperbag trousers very similar to the Boden ones but the ones in the picture are a bit more tailored around the waist and have nice seams giving them a neater look.

There is a site or blog, not sure which now called Parisienne. Might be worth a look if you like that style.

French women tend to keep their style simple and classic to look like that, with updates like the style of the trousers and the shirt collars.

French Chic is something else to look for. It encompasses all the good bits.

I'm in the South of France at the moment too @DeedleTwee - bit more rural than where you are though. About 15% of the women here blow me away with how stylish they are (but to be fair that's about the same rate as in London!). Was at a market in a very nondescript provincial town today and even there a few of the women looked sensational.

I have a pair of trousers very similar to the ones in your first pic from COS (although I don't look like that in them, more's the pity), and if I didn't already own 4 pairs of khaki trousers I'd be getting these from ASOS. Generally though you'll be wanting Sèzane - not what you'd call cheap, but it's the most direct route to what French women are wearing as far as I can tell.

SkiingIsHeaven · 22/08/2019 00:15

I have similar trousers from Fat Face.

Thanks all!!

You can't buy style, you can buy clothes. You can get all those items in your pics from most shops in the high street, but it's about finding the right shape, cut and quality of fabric that suit your body and lifestyle.

From the look of it, you simply want cotton and linen items in neutral colours. I'd set up a pinterest board of looks you like, worn by women with a similar body shape to you, then start searching. Be prepared to visit shops you don't currently go into.

Try White Company, Gap, M&S, Mango, Massimo Duti. Also the parisienne thread on here might help you define the right interpretation of this style for you I only lurk, but they don't talk trends, but cuts, fabrics shapes etc which can be useful.

I think the woman in the first picture is Emma Hill who is an influencer. If you follow her on Instagram you will see she wears this style and where she gets her clothes. She also makes YouTube videos.

worriedandannoyed · 22/08/2019 08:11

Sainsbury's of all places had some lovely clothes like this a few weeks ago, soft greys and white, quite a bit range that would all mix and match.

Thank you, I definitely need to try different shops!

Yes! Thank you, found her!

Def should look at Sainsbury's.

I wonder what these women wear in the Winter months. Will have to have a look properly at Emma Hills account.

I think what I like about it is it doesn't seem to be high fashion. I'm a simple kind of girl but that can all too often result in me looking boring and frumpy. I've been following some blogs and it's amazing what tucking in a T-shirt etc can do! So I love the clothes and they look so simple, yet effective. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone

Look for the parisienne threads here on S&B - there is an active one on S&B atm. It’s a great resource.

I’d go right back to the beginning as the original OP was such a pleasure to read and the sentiment matches yours exactly.

Thank you!

Just scanned some of it, what a great great Grin yeah I was the fattest woman there by some way at a size 16. I've just joined a slimming club to get it off but not sure I can live on fags/coffee as I hate them Wink Don't worry, I didn't join purely because of France, I was always going to after my holiday. Just joined with more resolve!
