That spotty Zara dress

It's in The Guardian today.
Does that mean it's too late to get one?

FYI in Aus they have it in opposite colours!? Black with white spots - I may well swap.

thenightsky · 11/08/2019 22:48

Never seen it on anyone round here. This thread is the first I've heard of it

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/08/2019 22:49

It’s a shapeless sack. I don’t get it.

Put a headscarf on and it's orthodox chic. Just why?

KimchiLaLa · 11/08/2019 22:50

It looks comfortable but I don't understand how it became so popular. They have much better stuff online and in store

AwdBovril · 11/08/2019 22:51

No way would I buy that thing. Didn't like it when I first saw it, & my impression of it hasn't improved. Shapeless sack. I don't believe any garment is improved by a flounce, it just looks like they cheaped out on the cut & made the remaining length up with offcuts. It's not even particularly flattering on the model, although I'm sure there are some women who it does look quite good on... I've yet to see the proof though. In addition, the comments online about the quality of Zara's clothing in general, specifically hems & seams, leads me to suspect it wouldn't last more than a few wears & washes, not good value.

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/08/2019 22:51

People saying it’s comfortable to wear. So are my dressing gown and slippers but I wouldn’t go out wearing them.

Rapidmama · 11/08/2019 22:55

Instagram @hot4thespot

It’s almost a parody of itself!

fancytiles · 11/08/2019 23:16

It's a good maternity dress, or for wearing on the plane as it's so baggy. If I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't wear it though!

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/08/2019 23:34

Zara has never been on my radar so I’ve just had a look at the dresses on the website. With about two exceptions they are fucking hideous. Like a cross between Little House on the Prairie and Prisoner Cell Block H. Who on earth hands over good money for these monstrosities?

Greenglassteacup · 12/08/2019 06:39

It has a drop waist which means that belts don’t sit right at all

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/08/2019 16:36

Do we not think the "hype" is just a clever marketing strategy? Hmm

OP posts:
Tortadellanonna · 12/08/2019 16:39

I don’t understand why they haven’t rushed it out in other patterns

lisbonholiday · 12/08/2019 16:40

People love wearing it but no-one actually looks good in it.

Agree. It's horrendous. Even the most gorgeous girls look very average in it.

Do we not think the "hype" is just a clever marketing strategy?

Nope - I know how Zara do their marketing (used to work in fashion) and that kind of campaign is just not part of their core brand at all.

Here in Spain (Zara homeland) I've not seen a single soul wear it! I didn't even see it in our local store (big city).

Alsohuman · 12/08/2019 17:01

It hasn’t got a drop waist, if anything the waist’s on the high side. It’s fashion Marmite. I love mine and was astonished that my brutally honest friend and equally blunt husband like it on me. Considering some of the truly awful dresses that get drooled over here, I’m quite pleased that so many people hate it.

Almahart · 12/08/2019 17:23

I like it but wouldn’t buy it now. But then I work in central London and it is everywhere

LazyLemur · 12/08/2019 18:50

Ohh this is the "worst dress I have ever seen" that I first saw when someone wore it to a wedding. It looks like a cross between a nightie and a beach cover up. But as a habitual lover of hideous things I still can't tell if I love or hate it 🤷‍♀️

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/08/2019 18:57

I've seen a lot of dyed ones, people making it more interesting?

I saw it at the start of summer and was tempted, but glad I didn't - ubiquitous as all feck Grin

CodenameVillanelle · 12/08/2019 19:05

Those women look like a group of Plymouth brethren. It's such a bad dress!

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 12/08/2019 19:07

It's awful. No one looks good in it. May as well wear a spotty bin bag.

GibbonLover · 13/08/2019 01:32

A dreadful, shapeless sack. Comfortable it may be. But flattering? Christ, no. Everyone I've seen in it looks huge. The only worse thing I've seen is that M&S hot pink shroud from a few years back.

And why on earth people want to wear the exact same dress as everybody else is beyond me.

GibbonLover · 13/08/2019 01:34

BTW, they are selling like hotcakes on Ebay. If you've bought one and don't like it, you'll easily get your £40 back if you stick it on soon.

Aderyn19 · 13/08/2019 01:39

I haven't noticed this dress at all. If 'everyone' is wearing it, then it's very forgettable!
Reminds me of those sack dresses that women in weird religious cults wear.

TeethingBabyHelp · 13/08/2019 02:04

I've dyed mine. I love it but see it everywhere and couldn't be doing with the awkwardness. I always get compliments wearing it, I think it must be a marmite dress ! I love it though, so easy and comfy with trainers

Mummaofmytribe · 13/08/2019 02:08

It looks absolutely boring but I've ordered one as I'm doing longhaul OZ - UK next week and thought it would be the comfiest thing to travel in as it would be like wearing a nightie!

Greenglassteacup · 13/08/2019 06:31

The wait is dropped on me, maybe I’m a freak
