Hair Dye failure- please help

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 12:06

On a whim I decided to dye my natural golden blonde ( which also has a lot of white highlights) grey.
Looked at the colour charts and my hair was seemingly the perfect candidate... however it has turned it grey (which I do love) everywhere but the roots. As i am so fair the roots don't really show when i am blonde if that makes sense.
Now i am my original blonde on my crown and grey on the length. On closer inspection almost pale blue on the tips.
It looks bloody awful.

I can't get to the hairdressers as they're fully booked. I've read about colour strippers but I'm concerned as to what they'll do to the original highlights
Can I just whack a light blonde colour over the top? I have NEVER used a box colour before and I'm starting to see why.
The grey is light rather than smokey

I'm meant to be going out tonight.

I have tried to take photos but it doesn't show very well. So wouldn't be beneficial to add on here as it doesn't look so bad on photos.

Please help. Confused

If you have any Vit C tablets , crush and add to a dandruff shampoo (if you can use a food processor to powder the tablets)

Apply , leave on , rinse and condition well.

If not then try a Head&Shoulders type to strip colour

As long as it's a colour and doesn't have lightener in it get yourself to Boots for some of this

www.boots.com/colourless-hair-colour-remover-max-effect-10217260

I've just used it to remove magenta purple from my hair, it's ammonia and peroxide free, my hair is lovely and soft

I wouldn't recommend vit c - tried it once before and it just dried my hair out to a frizzy mess

Thank you so much

How will I know if it is a colour and not a lightener. I am a complete novice with all of this.

Is the grey darker or lighter than your natural colour?

OpenYourEyes · 03/08/2019 15:43

I have always had good results with colour strippers. If your hair was blonde or finally it should work.

They make your head smell like a bin though.

Can you post a picture of the colour chart on the side of the box?

If the after colour is darker on the box than the before colour on the box then the colour remover should work....

OP posts:
Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 15:50

This is what I used and the colour chart is on there. I threw the box away.

The colour remover I linked to should work, I think Superdrug and Bodycare also stock it Smile

If anything my hair feels in better condition now (just did it yesterday) as I think it's removed all the crap and build up that was making my ends dry

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 16:04

I'm off to boots
Hurray

Let us know if it works - good luck!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2019 17:29

Vit C left my hair in no worse condition but got rid of my very unattractive magenta hair in one go.

(I posted on a thread a while back before/after)

And no rotten eggs stinking Colour B4 type malarky Grin

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 18:45

Hmmm I'm sat with this on my head

While it is wet my roots look ginger
I am starting to panic...

That dye contains hydrogen peroxide in the developer solution so will have lightened your hair too. Colour stripper will remove some of the grey but is unlikely to take you back to your natural colour.

pejorativelyspeaking · 03/08/2019 18:55

Colour remover won't take you to your natural colour
It just shrinks the pigment in your hair.
Make sure you rinse it out super well.

If you want to be golden blonde and it went too ash-an st home emergency fix is to slather it in ketchup-for about 5 mins then Rinse.

pejorativelyspeaking · 03/08/2019 18:56

What colour did you want to be?

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 19:02

I just wanted it like light grey super ash but all over.

I'm now bright yellow blonde/ ginger
And trying not to cry

Carrotcake
The blue colourant in your original dye would have cooled down any warm tones, and now the remover will take this out revealing them, leaving your hair looking warmer.
Good luck, hoping the result is an improvement, but you aren’t going to go back to your natural hair colour.

L’Oreals one step lift and colourant used to only be available in a salon, it’s a shame to see these in high street now, the majority will end up with poor:uneven results and you can’t control the strength of lift.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 19:09

Will a purple shampoo cool the tones down?

OP posts:
which1 · 03/08/2019 19:14

No harm, might tone down the brassinees but it cant get rid of the warmth - I've used colour strippers twice and the only way to get rid of that gingeryness is bleach.

bushes · 03/08/2019 19:25

I've been here, OP. Sorry to say your only option really is bleaching.

My accidental ginger 'incident' was two years ago and I still shudder when I think about it.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 19:27

Okay so I used a purple shampoo as a mask and it isn't as ginger

But it is very yellow blonde.

Dh still wants to go out. I'm crying. Eurhhh
Never again.
