Would this dress look ok with trainers?

I'd like to wear this dress to an event at the weekend (starts in the afternoon and will end after dinner) but I'd rather not wear heels.

I have a pair of white leather supergas - would they look ok with it? please say yes or will I look odd?

Yes Smile

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 16:19

Yay! Thanks @slipperyeel , will be out with ladies quite a bit younger than me so don't want to make a tit of myself!

No, sorry. Could you not wear other non trainer flat shoes? I think they'd look infinitely better. I do hate the trainers with dresses trend though.

That said, if you want to wear the trainers, go for it. Your body, your choice Smile

EatenByDinosaurs · 01/08/2019 16:58

I should have added, I never wear heels, but I also never wear trainers (outside of workouts) and I go to a lot of very, very formal events. There are many very comfortable non trainer shoes for all occasions out there Smile

ilovecherries · 01/08/2019 17:06

I would wear them because despite trying literally dozens of pairs of flat non-trainer shoes, from multiple retailers, I have never found a pair that copes with my orthotics. So I wear trainers with everything.

Bluntness100 · 01/08/2019 17:16

What sort of event is it? You say you have dinner, is it in a formal place?

I really don't think white trainers will work with that dress. Whatever the venue.

Fairylea · 01/08/2019 17:16

I think the trainers will look odd because they are white and the dress at the top is very dark, but I think other trainers would be okay.

onanothertrain · 01/08/2019 17:58

Not white trainers, might get away with black

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 18:09

Oh Sad the print on the skirt is black & white which is why I thought they'd go.

Back to the drawing board!

No, it's not the trainers, it's the white.

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 18:13

No, sorry. It's too much of a dressy-dress to wear with trainers. Maybe if you were a shift or tshirt style dress, but not a floaty wrap style dress.

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 18:14

*wore (not 'were') a shift or tshirt dress

MrsSpenserGregson · 01/08/2019 18:15

Yes of course white trainers will go with that dress! (I often wear similar Grin). A big fat Boo to all the naysayers on here lighthearted

White trainers go with EVERYTHING. Every darned mummy blogger on instagram wears them ffs so of course the rest of us can too.

MoltonSilver · 01/08/2019 18:19

Can you show us a photo?

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 18:21

Could you flatform sandals maybe? Would look much better if you really want to wear the Oasis dress? Something like this?...

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 18:25

Yes they will go perfectly well with that dress. As others have said this is very insta/influencer/trendy at the moment so you will look very current and cool.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 01/08/2019 18:28

White trainers will look perfect with that dress, don't worry op.

EatenByDinosaurs · 01/08/2019 18:29

Grin I think that's concrete reason NOT to wear them. Ever. Even if they were the last shoes on earth after a nuclear disaster.
Fashion some bug-hide ones from ginormous irradiated mosquitoes instead Grin

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 18:30

That said the sandals linked directly above would look great too!

Propertyofhood · 01/08/2019 18:31

Yes, I think the sort of trainers you describe would look lovely with that dress. I thought you might mean like, 'sporty' trainers which I wouldn't like, but white superga ones would look good, I really like that look actually and it's so comfy!

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 18:33

I suppose that depends on one’s general approach to fashion. I like to play with it and if the item/pairing/whatever isn’t to everyone’s tastes so much the better. There are enough people not wearing the trainer trend IRL that it doesn’t look too sheep-like either.

Each to their own...But OP obviously had the hunch that it might work so I think she should go for it!

PullingMySocksUp · 01/08/2019 18:35

I think they’d look perfect too.

Bluntness100 · 01/08/2019 18:35

I like the trainers and dress look, it makes something dressy look very casual. But it only works with certain dresses, and that dress, is not one it will work with. It's an older woman dress due to the hem line and shape and simply won't look like it would if it was some trendy floaty loose, summer dress, she will just look like she's got foot problems and doesn't have appropriate shoes.

Op,flat strappy sandals would work well.

soundsystem · 01/08/2019 18:38

Ignore the naysayers, white Supergas would be fine with that. To be fair, dresses like that and white trainers is pretty much my work uniform.

The younger women I work with would wear it with black Vans.
