Would this dress look ok with trainers?

I'd like to wear this dress to an event at the weekend (starts in the afternoon and will end after dinner) but I'd rather not wear heels.

I have a pair of white leather supergas - would they look ok with it? please say yes or will I look odd?

Hmmmm you could be right looking at it again...

If you want to be safe, OP, flat or platform sandals would definitely go with the dress.

Madbengalmum · 01/08/2019 18:41

I think the trainers with dress look is very done now and looks try hard. Why not wear with a nice pair of sandals? Supergas are very middle aged woman wear now too, sorry.

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 19:48

I don’t think it’ll look all that try-hard unless the outfit is 100% on point and perfectly curated, insta-style. It’s just a comfortable, fairly current way to wear dresses/shoes.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 19:52

Oh god a 50/50 split is worse than everyone saying no!!

I'm 45 and I have worn my supergas with dresses but they've been maxi length.

I could wear these sandals so I think I'll try them both on just before we head out and let my friend have the casting vote!

The sandals without a doubt.

museumum · 01/08/2019 20:01

I would wear superga with that for an afternoon thing. Definitely. But I dress very casually.
Those sandals make it a LOT more dressy an outfit.

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 20:01

Why? Do you like it, do you feel comfortable in it? If so, wear it! Chances are 50/50 will like it/not like it.

If it was me I’d wear the second pair you’ve just linked to, but that’s quite different to a pair of trainers so I’m just wondering why you were thinking of the trainers? Why shouldn’t you wear the shoes you want to wear?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 20:11

I think what's throwing me is that we're starting out at 3pm. If we were meeting for dinner at 8 I'd go with the sandals but the afternoon will be sunny and I'd like to feel more relaxed? I'm indecisive at the best of times as you're starting to see! so I think I'll let my pal decide for me!

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 20:13

Eh. I think I’d go for the trainers in that case. Why should you be uncomfortable for hours wandering around just because your friend might prefer the heeled shoes?

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 20:15

Definitely the sandals with that particular dress.

I do like some trainers with certain types of dresses, but that style of dress worn with trainers would just look like you chucked them on at the last min as you left it too late to buy shoes that match (imo anyway).

OpenYourEyes · 01/08/2019 20:15

It depends where yoy are going surley. The sandals match the dress better but would look ridiculous for a day at a theme park, a first aid course, a rave.

Teddybear45 · 01/08/2019 20:17

That dress wouldn’t look good with trainers. You need something shorter that won’t make your legs look stumpy

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 20:19

I think what's throwing me is that we're starting out at 3pm. If we were meeting for dinner at 8 I'd go with the sandals but the afternoon will be sunny and I'd like to feel more relaxed?

Then flatform/low wedge/flat sandals would be better than heels. But if you can't stretch to buying new shoes OP then go with the trainers.

Do you have a nice denim jacket? If wearing trainers with the oasis dress a denim jacket would pull the outfit together nicely.

Something like this would work well as an in between ?

Ticklemeelmo · 01/08/2019 20:25

Trainers are absolutely fine with that dress

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 20:29

I don't have time to buy anything else unfortunately.
I have a denim jacket and was intending to wear it, regardless of what's on my get Grin

If I'm feeling brave I'll post pics on Saturday before I head out, maybe seeing it will make it easier!

on my feet sorry

I have these sandals - any better?

OP posts:
onanothertrain · 01/08/2019 20:53

Still not sure about white. Although I do have those sandals in tan they're really comfy! I think your black sandals will look lovely

Lumene · 01/08/2019 21:13

Yes white trainers will look up to date and more dressed down. Will look great with a denim jacket.

OpenYourEyes · 01/08/2019 21:17

I like the white sandals.

PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 21:22

I'd actually choose trainers over the white sandals OP. If wearing sandals I think they have to be black and/or a little trendier or edgier.

Those sandals are lovely but will make that dress look really 'mumsy' and frumpy (for want of a better word).

What is the event OP? I think it would really help to know, as although trainers, the dress and a denim jacket would look trendy it would be inappropriate for say, a wedding...

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 21:23

I’d wear trainers over the sandals.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2019 21:48

It's a hen do! (am not staying out late though)

And I agree, those white sandals (although sooo comfy) will just look frumpy.

OP posts:
PlinketyPlinketyPlonk · 01/08/2019 21:58

For a hen do, totally fine for dress, trainers, denim jacket. Add a pop of colour with your accessories (red or green perhaps?) and you're sorted!
