swimsuits for a terrible figure

loveforyesteryears · 24/07/2019 01:02

I can’t getaway from having to spend a lot of time in a swimsuit in these summer holidays we have booked. I can’t even swim, but neither can my youngest so will just be wallowing in the shallow end with the youngest whilst the rest wander on with their dad. I have the most horrible figure after 4 kids. I realise no-one is looking at me, but without CBT that thought is not escaping me for me this holiday!!

So practically I have a 36-FF bust an, enormous waist, no muscle tone, cellulite, pale as a ghost and just overall an ugly creature to see and I feel drained. I am not asking for pump me ups, I am resigned, but I am looking for practical advice for a swimsuit.

So I have been looking online and obviouslyy aside from wearing a wetsuit does anyone have suggestions. Firstly colour? for pasty skin, secondly it’s a full swimsuit I think I need? I’ll attach a pic of what I think. I quite like the idea of the swimgear shortie type think (to cover cellulite ass cheeks) like 50’s style, but I can’t find any and I have NO fashion sense. I am about a size 14-16 UK.

Pic no 1 - don’t want to stand out, would this be high on the legs though?
Pic no 2 - would this be helpful in splitting the body?

Any suggestions helpful.

the yellow/black one is gorgeous! have you looked at Figleaves? they are great...

Throughabushbackwards · 24/07/2019 01:14

I agree that the yellow and black one would be a good choice and that you should look at figleaves.

TigerJoy · 24/07/2019 01:24

I like good old M&S. I'm porky, got big boobs and a big wobbly tummy. I find their swimsuit sizing a bit depressing and am a size larger than my usual.

But they have nice full cover up swimsuits with thick material and shaped cups.

Colour-wise I'd say go for a colour you like and cheers you up.

Something like this? www.marksandspencer.com/secret-slimming-navaho-print-plunge-wrap-swimsuit/p/p60280043?image=SD_01_T52_6660_Z4_X_EC_90&color=WHITEMIX&prevPage=plp

Also just think like a Mediterranean. In italy you get women of all shapes and sizes wearing sometimes pretty tiny swimsuits! Nobody cares. Have a lovely time.

loveforyesteryears · 24/07/2019 01:43

Thank you myrtle and throughabush, I will try the yellow and black and thank you Tiger Joy for the colour advice "go for a colour you like and cheers you up.' such simple advice, I never thought of it that way, my way, I'll be using that in the future for dresses and tops!

Where is the yellow and black one from?

jay55 · 24/07/2019 02:41

Don't do what I did and buy a M&S tummy crushing suit, getting in and out of it was sheer torture.

whitebowls · 24/07/2019 03:59

Miracle suits are good, but expensive. I've recently ordered a few c'est moi suits too. I'm a 36G with wobbly bits so feel your pain.
Next has a good selection online. As has figleaves. Find you bra size and go for a wired cup. Shape enhancer suits are good too.

Queenioqueenio · 24/07/2019 07:20

Both those swimsuits are nice, m & s have a nice range too.

WhenIsTheEasyBit · 24/07/2019 07:34

I've just sent the black and coral one back. I'm of similar norkage to you and it did nothing for me. Not supportive, but squished them most unflatteringly.

Tankinis are the only solution that works for me.

stucknoue · 24/07/2019 07:58

I have a lovely one from figleaves and a really slimming one from Tesco (but it's a devil to get into)

Bringonspring · 24/07/2019 08:01

Another vote for miracle suits. They are expensive £150 but I brought mine 2 years ago and still as good as new in terms of ‘holding me in’

rookiemere · 24/07/2019 08:06

Yes do remember that flattering suits are a devil to get in and out of. I second getting one in a bright happy colour that you like - when you're on the beach you'll see there are all shapes and sizes out there, and ultimately everyone is just focused on enjoying themselves.

I have quite a few beach wrap things - www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-guipure-lace-square-kaftan-tomato/p4017340 - this isn't a great example as I usually like waisted ones, but gives you an idea what I mean. So as soon as I am out of the water I can throw it on and feel much more relaxed about walking around.

beanaseireann · 24/07/2019 12:21

Where is the yellow and black one from loveforyesteryears ?

Pywife2 · 24/07/2019 12:30

Just want to thank the OP for asking the question, I'm sure I won't be the only person picking up tips from this thread. Thanks for all the information, ladies!

gingersausage · 24/07/2019 12:59

The first one is deadly boring and will do literally nothing for your (or any) figure. It’s the sort of thing I wore as a competitive swimmer that squashed everything like a sausage casing.

With your boob size you will be much comfier in bra sized swimwear. I’m a 36F and I got some lovely things in Pour Moi sale. Don’t dismiss bikinis or tankinis; they can be much more flattering, especially with high waisted bottoms. You can play around with mix and match separates and find the best fit. I literally ordered about £200 worth and ended up with 2 tops and 2 bottoms that all go together. Returns are free and dead easy. www.pourmoi.co.uk/sale/?order=lowestpricefirst

Brastop, Lingerie Outlet Store and Next also have lots of great swimwear in their sales.

If you fancy a bit more leg cover, Amazon have these nice swim leggings www.amazon.co.uk/BLENCOT-Protection-Knee-Length-Boyshort-Jammers/dp/B07SLYY9VQ/ref=lp_1731497031_1_24?s=clothing&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1563969377&sr=1-24 or swim shorts www.amazon.co.uk/CharmLeaks-Boardshorts-Bottoms-Swimming-Costume/dp/B071L6FMDH/ref=lp_1731497031_1_2?s=clothing&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1563969377&sr=1-2

dontcallmelen · 24/07/2019 14:14

Dress Lilly has some lovely suits and bikini's.

I got two for my holidays this year from boohoo -www.boohoo.com/plus-animal-drape-sleeve-swimsuit/PZZ76231.html

www.boohoo.com/plus-floral-high-waist-bikini/PZZ70918.html

I am a size 20 with huge boobs and a mum tum - but I cant be bothered this year to worry about it - so I am going to make sure my skin is super smooth and freshly waxed and have a few sunbeds to give me a head start on the tan, and ENJOY! xxx

Grasspigeons · 24/07/2019 14:38

You've had some great swimsuit advice already. Last years i braved a bikini but also had board shorts and a rash vest which i wore to paddle in. I dont suggest for a minute you need to cover up but i actually found it was good as i didnt have to worry about the sun. . I really surprised myself with the bikini though. It was MN that made me brave enough.

cricketmum84 · 24/07/2019 15:05

I'm a bigger girl, although nowhere near as big as our last holiday. Am currently away and brought a few of the vintage 50s style swimsuits. Flowers, halter neck and a bit longer on the bum.

There's loads of ladies here bigger than me who are flaunting it with zero fucks given. I wish I could have some of their confidence.

My two favourites I brought are these:

www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/joe-browns-swimsuit/ty865/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9063#colour:Navy%20Floral,size:

www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/joanna-hope-paradise-bardot-swimsuit/ke262/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9063#colour:Floral%20Print,size:

Ultimately think head up, Tits out, straighten your crown and love yourself! Most women are far too worried about how they look than what others look like. Except the Russian woman on the sunned in front who keeps flaunting her amazing and quite disturbingly perfect arse 😂😂

windysocks · 24/07/2019 15:15

Hi I'm on a beach / pool holiday now and am a UK 14/16 , overweight flabby etc. Before holiday i thought about it a-lot but now I'm wearing a bikini ( bandeau style) every day. I have realised i dont actually care what others think . Im having a lovely time watching ds & dd play/argue
I would say that i am fairly average within the rest of the females here there are plenty bigger and a few smaller. Just enjoy your hard earned holiday and feel happy and glad you are in the body you are in - have a fantastic holiday! 🌞

fatgirlonthebeach · 24/07/2019 16:18

I'm watching this thread with great interest.

I've never heard of Miracle suits so have had a look online but can't see any UK website which sells them over size 20. I would need either 22 or 24. Is it possible to buy them in UK in these sizes please?

Lolly86 · 24/07/2019 16:28

I am a size 16 so probably heavier, bigger than you. I've just come back from swimming with DD5 in a bikini it was much more comfortable than a swimsuit. No one batted an eyelid. You need to feel comfortable though Smile
