What to do about washing clothes on 2 week holiday?

Not sure if this is the right place but what do you do about clothes for a 2 week holiday? It's a sight seeing holiday so 'proper' clothes rather than beachwear, and in August so I can't imagine I'll be able to wear things twice!

Do you take enough clothes for 2 weeks? I'm not sure I have enough summer things! Or do you wash on holiday? We are going self catering so there will be a washing machine but I don't fancy ironing on holiday and whilst the kids stuff might be ok not ironed mine and Dhs won't I would imagine!

First 2 week holiday (other than our honeymoon where not many clothes were required Grin) and I am keen to avoid washing and ironing on holiday!

You are self catering and have a washing machine? Think that answers your question? What’s the issue?

Acunningruse · 15/07/2019 12:42

As above ^ I can wash but I don't fancy the ironing! Maybe that's the only choice- be creased or iron? Just curious as to what other people do though?

Do you really need to iron on holiday?!!

Knittedfairies · 15/07/2019 12:44

You either take enough clothes, wear something more than once before washing, or wash on holiday.

Acunningruse · 15/07/2019 12:44

I don't know! This is why I am asking! I don't want to iron, but if I wash the clothes they will be too creased to wear surely?

Take clothes that don’t need ironed.

Or Get Dh to do it.

Rosemary46 · 15/07/2019 12:45

I dont iron at home so I certainly wouldn’t on holiday !

managedmis · 15/07/2019 12:46

What are you going to wear on holiday that requires ironing?

CountFosco · 15/07/2019 12:46

We always go self catering and wash clothes in the washing machine. Don't care about ironing and letting things hang up in the steam of the bathroom will help things where it particularly matters. But shorts and t-shirts? Na.

mynameiscalypso · 15/07/2019 12:46

I never iron. So long as you hang things up when they come out the machine, they're fine especially for a holiday.

managedmis · 15/07/2019 12:46

You can buy mini travel irons, BTW

Acunningruse · 15/07/2019 12:47

Rosemary46 Do you mind me asking how you get away without ironing? I have to iron literally all mine and DHa clothes as they are so creased once they come out of the wash, how do you manage not to iron them?

jomaIone · 15/07/2019 12:48

I never iron, surely you will be fine without ironing on holiday. The heat will drop any creases any way. Also things like shorts will likely be fine to wear a few times. Take cotton dresses and t-shirts and shake the out and hand up nearly or on cost hangers to dry!

Acunningruse · 15/07/2019 12:48

Today I'm wearing a t shirt dress, exactly kind of thing I'll wear on holiday, looks lovely once ironed but without would look like an absolute dishrag I don't understand where I am going wrong! Maybe the spin cycle is too high/fast?

rideawhiteswan · 15/07/2019 12:49

I wear things more than once, loose, light fabrics, good anti perspirant, at least one shower a day, they really don't get grubby.
Children's clothes get grubby, I'd wash with a very slow spin so they don't get too creased, no need to iron.

ALittleBitAlexis · 15/07/2019 12:50

I take enough clothes for 1 week and wash them. I hang dresses up in a wardrobe (usually) but I don’t bother ironing - a few creases don’t matter to me and they fall out soon enough anyway.

Zinnia · 15/07/2019 12:50

Take as much stuff as possible that doesn't need ironing - jersey and linen, or viscose - that can just be given a good shake and left to hang dry. Cotton poplin is lovely in summer but will need an iron (I would feel the same as you about this!), so if not ironing is the thing that will make you feel really on holiday then don't take any.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2019 12:50

Lower spin. Straight out once clean and hang on a hanger and dry like that.

Annasgirl · 15/07/2019 12:51

I always wash clothes on holiday - I am the queen of holiday washing. I do a half load, dry and then fold. I always pack short and t shirts or khaki type trousers so no need to iron. If DH needs a shirt he irons it but he seems to only take polo shirts and t-shirts.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2019 12:51

I have to iron literally all mine and DHa clothes get dh to do it.

feelingverylazytoday · 15/07/2019 12:53

Take your washing out as soon as the cycle is finished and give each item a firm shake. If you can , dry outside, especially if it's windy. Otherwise hang on hangers on a clothes horse or on hooks over the door.
I do still iron a few things, but thats just preference. Most stuff doesn't really need it.

Heyha · 15/07/2019 12:54

Apart from being a bit 🙄 that an adult is actually asking this....

I find our clothes crease when DP does the washing because he puts too much stuff in one load, we use the same settings. I put less in, get it out ASAP and peg it so that it hangs properly and I only have to iron the troublesome stuff. I deliberately don't buy/wear stuff that generally needs anything more than a run over with the iron so very little linen, shirts etc. I imagine for a sightseeing holiday you still won't wearing formal stuff, pack and wash wisely and you might only have to do a quick run over the odd thing.

dementedpixie · 15/07/2019 12:54

I've just been away for 2 weeks in a villa. I washed but never ironed a thing. Although I only iron work shirts and school wear at home anyway. Once dry, hang it or fold and put away.

Heyha · 15/07/2019 12:56

Although other than when backpacking my beach stuff gets rinsed in the shower and anything else gets handwashed in the sink then laid out on the balcony or similar so I can't speak with any experience of doing a proper wash on holiday.

managedmis · 15/07/2019 12:56

Do you usually tumble dry or dry on a rack? Tumble drying definitely decreases stuff
