I’m going to have my teeth fixed, anyone did it and now have their confidence back ?

I have finally taken the plunge and I’m so exited. I’m feeling so unconfident because of them. Anyone did and feel it was the best thing they did for themselves? It is going to cost a lot of money, I have been wanting to do it for years. Would love to hear from people who did the same ! Thank you :)

I had a fixed metal brace put on my top teeth last year. I'm in my late forties. I've since had them whitened.

Best £1.7k I've ever spent. My boyfriend says I smile more and my face lights up.

I love my new smile. I'm more confident and wish I hadn't dithered for so long before fixing my teeth.
Good luck.

Goawayquickly · 14/07/2019 10:43

Absolutely life changing for me, I used to feel down about my smile every single day, hated talking to people etc, so self conscious. Feel brand new again, best money I’ve ever spent. I’m excited for you OP.

SausageSimon · 14/07/2019 10:48

Has anyone got any before and after pictures of their teeth?

I'm considering having mine done but need to find the money Sad

Gargamel1975 · 14/07/2019 10:49

Thank you thank you !! I’m so exited I could cry. When I smile I never show my teeth as I have some missing teeth on the side, eroded teeth in the front, cavities in the back - it’s awful. I have found a top dentist and I can’t wait to get started ! I have a real phobia of dental work but he completely put me at ease. He even going to sort my gums so I won’t have a gummy smile anymore !!

@SausageSimon any chance you could do it on finance ? Mine will be spread over 5 years.

I had mine done. I had Invisalign and am very happy with the end result but for various reasons if I were starting again I'd probably opt for metal train tracks. Here's my before and after pics.

@ThisIsNotAIBUPeople gorgeous teeth !!! They are so white !

SausageSimon · 14/07/2019 11:34

How much will it cost you a month @Gargamel1975 ??
If it isn't much I'd definitely just get it done!
Mine aren't very wonky, I've just got two fangs at the front. The rest aren't so bad!

SausageSimon · 14/07/2019 11:34

That's an amazing result @ThisIsNotAIBUPeople

ThisIsNotAIBUPeople · 14/07/2019 11:35

ThanksSmile I feel so much more confident smiling now.

Gargamel1975 · 14/07/2019 11:38

@SausageSimon it’s about £400 a month. I know it’s a lot but as I said my teeth are awful. By the sound of it, yours don’t sound too bad, I’ll enquire if I was you

SausageSimon · 14/07/2019 11:41

It's worth looking into anyway isn't it? I'll have a look online to see about somewhere local

Thump · 14/07/2019 11:48

My six front top teeth are chipped, discoloured, stained, have fillings over the front half of the two middle ones (the remainder is black/brown and have receding gums. All I can afford right now is 15 minutes with hygienist £39, a one hour air blast clean thing £99 and then moulds taken of the front two middle two and then have them fully and properly filled (these two teeth are the worst of them), which is £299 per tooth.
I look like Shane MacGowan so I'm hoping all that will make some sort of improvement with them.
Ideally I'd need all 6 front top middle teeth have the mould and full fillings, but I can only afford 2 for now. Sad

I don't smile with my mouth open anymore. I look horrendous.

@Gargamel1975

Congrats! Please can I now bombard you with questions...

  1. Exactly what are you getting done?
  2. What plan is it that means you pay back £400/month?
  3. Are you getting them all done in one fell swoop?
  4. will you be under a general anaesthetic?
  5. Exactly how sacred of the dentist are you?

I only ask because

a) I’ve lost 3 teeth since 2015 - the saying “a tooth for every child” is true IME

b) I am shit rigid scared of the dentist. I’m currently dealing with the aftermath of an extraction I couldn’t cope with anymore and they’ve had to patch the fragments they couldn’t extract anymore back together

c) I’ve held on to my front ones but I’m losing so many molars and canines eating is now a challenge

It’s truly depressing me.

Gargamel1975 · 14/07/2019 11:49

@SausageSimon it’s definite worth looking ! I’d start the ball rolling if I were you ! So exiting !!!!

  1. Exactly what are you getting done?
I’m getting some implants in both side on top jaw, about 4 tooth, I’m getting crowns on all 6 front teeth, top and bottom. Gums lasered on the top to make teeth look longer. Some cavities etc...
  1. What plan is it that means you pay back £400/month?
It’s going to cost a bit more than 20 k so the cost is spread over 5 years.
  1. Are you getting them all done in one fell swoop?
It’s going to take 2 month
  1. will you be under a general anaesthetic?
No
  1. Exactly how sacred of the dentist are you?
I have feinted once when the dentist was about to inject. I also cry regularly. I had lots of abscess because I never went to the dentist regularly.

Poor you :( I feel your pain - I have been there.

c) I’ve held on to my front ones but I’m losing so many molars and canines eating is now a challenge

Go and ask what can be done and how much. You never know until you know the full facts !
It’s truly depressing me.

Thank you @gargamel1975

Can you let me know the name of the plan of DM it?

Also: I couldn’t do all that without a GA, props to you x

Neoflex · 14/07/2019 12:15

I always had a huge gap in my front teeth growing up. You could fit a pound coin through it. Some people call it fashionable nowadays but mine were not pretty. One tooth was at an angle. My tongue got stuck in the gap so I had a slight lisp.
I also had the feeling people didn't take me seriously and treated me like a child because I looked and sounded so goofy.
I first got them done about 8 years ago with front crowns. I didn't really understand how much work it would be. They cut down the teeth to stumps to put the crowns on. I need root canal treatment. It was really painful and long. But once it was done I immediately felt great and I immediately noticed new people treating me more seriously and less like a little girl.
Fast forward 8 years and the gym under one of the crowns got infected and I have needed a lot of treatment to fix it. That would not have happened with my original tooth. Sat in the dentists chair with stubs for front teeth was horrific. I felt so much regret for putting myself through all this for no reason.
Then the new crowns went on and I felt fantastic again.
It's a love hate relationship that costs me a lot of money!

SgtFredColon · 14/07/2019 13:39

Mine were crooked and stained so I had two crowns and two veneers on the front teeth and had them whitened with bleach. Had to have root canal too before the crowns. Cost me €3k and worth every penny! Wished I’d done it years earlier. My teeth aren’t perfect but so much happier with them.

I’m going to have my teeth fixed, anyone did it and now have their confidence back ?
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/07/2019 14:15

I have tiny white fillings on my top front teeth which are stained and discoloured now ten years on. I asked my dentist about veneers/crowns, and she said absolutely no way given that the teeth are healthy (the fillings were from erosion with over-brushing, ironically, not decay). Per neoflex’s post, she said most people don’t realise how much tooth has to be removed, and that once it’s gone, it’s gone, which often leads to problems down the line.

I’m booked in to have the fillings redone, and an “airflow” polish in a couple of week’s time. My dentist is confident that will give me a dazzling smile again, but has said if I am still not happy we could do bleach afterwards. My teeth are pretty white naturally, and straight after orthodontic work as a kid, so I am hoping this does the trick.

CalamBalam · 14/07/2019 14:18

Wow 20K is a lot! But worth it if it will transform how you feel about yourself.

I'm planning to get Invisalign in the next few months and can't wait. So many adults these days seem to have braces.

PerfectPeony2 · 14/07/2019 14:23

Different to your situation but my front teeth always crossed over and I hated it- felt like it ruined my appearance!

Got a fixed Damon brace age 25/26 mostly for my wedding and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I still wear my retainer every night religiously as it cost around 3.5k.

I still want to get them whitened so going to look into that next. Smile

Good luck, it will feel great being able to smile without feeling self conscious.

DrFoxtrot · 15/07/2019 17:42

I had a bridge for £1.5k to cover a gap and it has made a massive difference to my smile and confidence! There are other things I want done, I'm saving up!

DrFoxtrot · 15/07/2019 17:45

I would have had an implant but the bone between my top teeth and sinus is only 4mm and I'd have needed a bone graft.

Snipples · 15/07/2019 18:08

I had Invisalign done before my wedding and my two from teeth extended with composite and they looked great but they moved and one of the fillings chipped and I just got fed up with it all so I've now had the top 8 teeth fitted with veneers and I'm really happy with it. They're guaranteed for ten years and I figure will probs end up with dentures eventually so I've just got mine early!
