Straw like hair - gone!

TheCatThatDanced · 11/07/2019 10:54

I have below shoulder length highlighted hair (fine, lots of it but getting slightly less as I age).

Usually I wash it - with a very moisturising (probably too moisturising) shampoo and conditioner, then coat it with Tigi Bed Head Ego Boost - a leave in conditioner - if it dries in time I put a serum on it (Aveda Light Elements) and a finishing cream - Redken Outshine 01.

I posted here about the condition being straw like.

Anyway - got some Herbal Essences Passion Flower and Rice Milk Nourishing Shampoo, L'Oreal Dream Lengths Rapid Reviver Long Hair Power Conditioner - let it dry naturally and bloody hell - straw gone - or hardly any!

It's a miracle I tell you.

I'm going to get these later to try, thanks TheCat! My hair has suddenly gone from shiny and swishy to rough and dry over a couple of weeks. I've spent ££££ on hair masks that aren't making much difference so definitely worth trying what you've tried.

EnidButton · 11/07/2019 12:42

Oh it's this one isn't it? www.boots.com/l’oreal-elvive-dream-lengths-rapid-reviver-long-hair-power-conditioner-180ml-10261088

I might get both anyway. Smile

Ineedtoknowit · 11/07/2019 12:42

How long have you been using it op? I find that my hair responds v well initially to a new shampoo but then goes back to normal

Greenglassteacup · 11/07/2019 12:46

I think using the same shampoo and conditioner every time for months leads to me to have straw like hair. If I change brands every so often that keeps my hair shiny. The only brand I don’t get this with is Hask. I’ve been using it for ages and my hair is still happy with it. No idea how

LoafofSellotape · 11/07/2019 12:51

I was eyeing this conditioner earlier,I get on really well with L'Oréal stuff usually.

grownup2 · 11/07/2019 14:47

I was confused for ages why products stopped working and my hair was like straw. It still sometimes is but now I know that I have low porosity hair and products with protein or silicone will build up and stop moisture getting in. A clarifying shampoo helps, and avoiding regular use of protein 'repair'-type products. Your hair is low porosity if it floats in water for a long time.

TheCatThatDanced · 11/07/2019 14:51

grownup2 - I think that's what happened to me - I've been using products with protein or silicone in recently - got this at Sainsburys but they charged me £8 not £5 (London prices!).

I use Avalon organics lemon clarifying shampoo too.

Enid - definitely try it - I've been using expensive shampoos - the blue Redken extreme range, a moistursing moroccan Paul Smith hair mask and not much of that made a blind bit of difference so back to 'drug store' stuff for me.

Ineedtoknowit - just started this week but compared to other shampoos and conditioners which don't do anything at all this seems really good.

L’Oreal = Nestle.

TheCatThatDanced · 11/07/2019 15:16

What's so bad about Nestle?! All multi national companies have good and bad sides.

I temped briefly for Dept Health last year where they visited Nestle and Nestle were bringing out low sugar stuff and Kit Kat's with quinoa which I can't find now.

Ineedtoknowit · 11/07/2019 15:51

Lots of people boycott nestle op, google their baby milk history

MoreSlidingDoors · 11/07/2019 15:52

Nestle “nobody has a right to water” and “we’ll cause the needless deaths of countless babies for profit”?

Rumplesmoothskin · 11/07/2019 15:56

I find a nice oil treatment helps my low porosity hair. Gotta leave it in for a day and condition over the top though.

princessTiasmum · 11/07/2019 16:00

Nestles testing on animals is disgusting , and cruel .google it

Greenglassteacup · 11/07/2019 16:15

Surely you know about Nestle ??

TheCatThatDanced · 11/07/2019 16:41

Ah ok - Nestle - yes I did know about them somewhat.

Come on though how many people boycott L'Oreal products because of their involvement with Nestle?

princessTiasmum - lots of companies test on animals. I'd prefer if they didn't but I'm not about to not use cosmetics etc if they do.

MoreSlidingDoors · 11/07/2019 16:50

I boycott any company that’s owned by/involved with Nestle. Have done for over 10 years. There are lots and lots of them. It’s about morals over vanity, surely?

MoreSlidingDoors · 11/07/2019 16:53

My 8 year old persuaded her school to stop buying Nestle cereals for breakfast club too.

TheCat Bought some to try this weekend so fingers crossed. I used too many protein heavy treatments too and I think it's caused a build up. (Desperate for a good hair cut too tbh) The herbal essences shampoo smells amazing!

I'll try an oil treatment as well Rumple Used to do them regularly years ago, don't know why I stopped. Thanks for the reminder.

And this thread took a turn since I posted earlier. I've bought them now and opened them so will still be using them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2019 09:35

lots of companies test on animals. I'd prefer if they didn't but I'm not about to not use cosmetics etc if they do

But you DON'T have to 'not use cosmestics' there are literally 100s of Cruelty Free products out there .

Just because you'd prefer it didn't happen.... it happens .

Do you have any animals ? What's the difference between your pet and these animals who are bred to die in the worst circumstances .

The power is literally in your hands . Vote with your purse . .
