Nhs nose job

Has anyone had a nose job on nhs and if so what was the process. Start to finish?

Why do you want one, and where do you live? (CCG group)

The NHS doesn’t offer nose jobs for cosmetic reasons. You may be able to have one if you have breathing difficulties for example, but the consultant wouldn’t take into account aesthetics and so wouldn’t do anything to make it more attractive, only what is clinically necessary.

The NHS might offer a nose job if severe mental health issues warrants it, as far as I am aware this is on a very rare special case basis where various medical professionals will have to agree that there is a clinical need and apply for funding, you will have to see psychologists etc. This entire process will take a very long time, don’t see this as a free nose job!

Also bare in mind that NHS consultants are in general focused on medical need rather than aesthetics. Private surgeons have much more experience in cosmetic surgery so will be able to deliver a better result as opposed to an NHS consultant who would seldom carry out rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons and therefore not be the most skilled.

Thank you for your info it was very helpful. I have waited to see a psychologist for 1 year and have my app this week. I have personal issues that i wont go into but hopefully after my app i will get the outcome i need. Thanks

I have had facial surgery, not a nose job, it really changed my life.

If your nose bothers you so much it is having a detrimental effect on you then you can get surgery on finance.

I wouldn't usually suggest getting into debt for cosmetics but I know what a difference my facial surgery has made to me.

Kero123 · 09/07/2019 22:27

I may have to do this as i am desperate!

Tinysarah1985 · 09/07/2019 23:05

They won't do it as it's classed as a cosmetic procedure, even if the psychologist says its causing you mental health problems. I finally got accepted for septoplasty where they straighten the septum after 15 years of not being able to breathe through my nose. And they even said the NHS will only ever do the inside.

browzingss · 10/07/2019 00:19

Oh I see - have you already spoken to your GP about this then?

Hopefully your appointment goes well, keep us updated!

If you search your CCG on google, you may be able find their referral criteria which would show you 1. if they would consider offering rhinoplasty or if it’s a hard no, and 2. what the criteria would be

Kero123 · 10/07/2019 08:47

Thank you!

They should pay for it themselves.

sneakypinky · 10/07/2019 09:52

The NHS pay for non-essential cosmetic surgery?

That's insane. The NHS is collapsing at the seams with ambulances queuing at A&E depts locally, and people are waiting in corridors for hours to be seen for urgent matters, other unable to get a GP appointment for weeks on end due to demand.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this at all. Unless you are having breathing or actual sinus issues caused be septum deviation or something I don't think this should be covered on the NHS.

PippiDeLena · 10/07/2019 14:18

No experience of this, but I know a lot of private plastic surgery clinics offer interest free credit, so that might be something to consider? Or you could put the op on an interest free credit card.

Kero123 · 10/07/2019 18:54

Or maybe mental health issues caused by this??

OP posts:
NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 19:00

If you have mental health issues they'll look to manage those (through therapy and medication). The chance of cosmetic surgery being offered is miniscule unless you have significant deformity.

browzingss · 10/07/2019 19:08

Yeah, the ‘mental health’ route isn’t easy at all, you may see a psychiatrist who diagnoses you with body dysmorphia instead which means that you will be referred for further mental health treatment rather than cosmetic surgery.

Soola · 10/07/2019 19:22

It’s your perception of your nose that should be treated not your actual nose.

Kero123 · 10/07/2019 19:42

I know the only way to fix my mental health is to have surgery nothing else is going to cut it. If i had the means of doing it myself by going private believe me i would!! I understand people going of on one about using nhs ect and everyones entitled to their own opinions but dont judge as u dont know what people have went through. I seen the psychologist today and the outcome is looking positive just need to wait on a letter Smile

OP posts:
NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 19:48

What other treatments have you tried?

NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 19:49

And the psychologist does not decide who gets treatment. They write a letter to a funding panel, who decide on exceptional cases. The vast majority of these requests are refused.

AquaPris · 10/07/2019 19:50

how about instead of taking money away from those with cancer or diabetes or who are dying you try saving some money or pay it on finance? Selfish as anything. Do you not have a job?

AquaPris · 10/07/2019 19:51

Also I'm not even sure a nose job would help someone with dysmmorphic mental health issues - they certainly wouldn't give lipo to someone who was bulimic would they?

Kero123 · 10/07/2019 19:52

I havnt been advised to try any treatments. Is there any treatments that will fix my problem? Surely my doctor would have advised this?

OP posts:
madcatladyforever · 10/07/2019 19:54

I had a mastopexy boob lift on the NHS. It was a repair from an appalling fuck up that a private surgeon did. It wasn't hard getting a referral as it was such a mess.

PepsiLola · 10/07/2019 19:56

I don't think the nhs will do a nose job, even for mental health.

You may need to look at finance options

NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 19:56

Doctor or psychologist?

You're not giving us much to go on. Do you have a significant facial deformity or do you just dislike your nose?

Kero123 · 10/07/2019 19:59

Wondered how long it would take someone to comment on taking from the nhs! Again u dont know my personal circumstances and i am no even going to go there with u!! And yes i do work have worked since i was 13 and never been out of a job!!! Not easy to save in this day and age and like a said if i could get the funds then i would!!
