Anyone any experience with fillers?

Went for a consultation about tear trough fillers on Friday. Doctor said that because I am thin and have been thin all my life I have not got much fat in my face and actually doing a mid face cheek filler would be more likely to solve the issue I have with flatness around the eyes. I've never had fillers before and really can't make up my mind. My face and eye area really get me down and I look so much older than I am. But I feel like I don't know enough about it and not sure where to look for trustworthy information! Any help or advice?

I've had tear trough fillers and while they have worked on the actual troughs, they have made my under eye area quite flat so if that is your issue then I'd be inclined to agree with your practitioner.

I had the same problem and was advised filler in the cheeks as opposed to tear troughs and it did the trick. And apparently less painful there too so win win

I have very recently had profhilo and then some very subtle fillers along my cheekbones and in naso-labial folds.

I saw someone recommended by Alice Hart Davies and the lady I saw was excellent. She is plastic surgeon by profession and has a very light hand.

Several people have commented recently on my skin and asked what skincare I use. I am very open and say it is down to injections not expensive moisturisers.

I think the key is to do very little to begin with and accept you may need to spend a little more to add more. And find someone who has a good eye for it. Personally I wanted someone very well qualified and not a beautician who had done a day's course.

Cheek fillers will help your eyes better i think as will act as a kind of scaffold and lift the under eyes
Tear trough fillers can be a bit unpredictable, and can go a bit lumpy

Lizzielocket · 07/07/2019 20:25

I wouldn’t touch tear trough fillers, it can be hit and miss and doesn’t last long anyway.
I’ve got a syringe of deep filler in each cheek and it makes the world of difference. I have Botox too, if I had to choose I’d go for filler because I think sunken cheeks are more ageing than wrinkles.
Filler in my cheeks has definitely helped my eye area considerably.

Hi Op. I had tear trough fillers two and a bit weeks ago. Really disappointed. They made no difference at all. I went in for under eye wrinkles and they is what was recommended.

At my two week check up she said I should go for another ml. I declined. Didn't want to pay anymore money as the first lot didn't do anything at all. So I wasn't confident that more would improve things.

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate all the input and personal experiences!

My experience is that things have moved on in the last few years and it seems like the emphasis has moved from ‘filling’ the offending trough to understanding of the structured of the face and using fillers to lift the ‘infrastructure’ so to speak. I always used to have naso fillers and marionette lines and it looked pretty good. Now though my doctor (yes she is fully qualified doctor) puts them in various parts of cheeks and jaw bone and I have to say it looks amazing and solves a myriad of issues. She tells me it’s all about the scaffolding not the cracks now!!

twinklebee · 09/07/2019 07:16

Thanks @Skipthisbit , that does seem to tie in with what the doc said. I think cheek is the way to go, I'm just nervous about the procedure now and any risks!

twinklebee don't worry it isn't painful. you will be given anaesthetic cream which is quite strong, and the filler will also have some in, you will just feel a bit of prodding, not painful at all, and usually no bruising
I was told Restylane is the best to have, but maybe there are ither fillers just as good

funnyfuckers · 11/07/2019 11:12

If you do go for the cheek fillers she may use a cannula which there is less chance of bruising and also makes it easier to 'spread' the filler. It isn't painful but a weird feeling but I would definitely go for that option if it's offered. And would personally only have Juvederm 4 or Voluma in my cheeks.

twinklebee · 11/07/2019 12:50

Thanks everyone. Yeah a cannula was mentioned so that's good. Booked in for a few weeks.. I think I'll go for it!

Silly question alert, what’s the difference between mid face filler and cheek filler?

princessTiasmum · 11/07/2019 16:06

funny do you have Juvederm or voluma, i had Restylane, but i have read that it doesn't last as long as others,
Can i ask how long yours lasts, ?thanksthe lady i go to is a dentist and reckons you shouldn't put anything else in your face, but i suppose se would say that if you have to go more often,
Also can i ask what price is Juvederm for 1 ml

Lizzielocket · 11/07/2019 16:38

I had voluma in my cheeks, 1ml in each, it’s supposed to last up to 18 months. It was £350 for the first syringe and £250 for the second. I have a check up next week and am considering another 0.5 ml in each cheek, this stuff is addictive, be warned!

princessTiasmum · 11/07/2019 16:50

I dont think the Restylane will last that long, oneside looks to be going already since February and cost £400 both times,
Not happy that it doesn't seem to be lasting well
Can you see much difference with 1 ml? i had 1.5 in one side and 2 ml in the other sha said, they do look better, but she said she doesn't charge by how much filler, but for her time which was about 4 minutes including putting cream on first

princessTiasmum · 11/07/2019 16:53

Meant to say the lady who did mine said Restylane can be dissolved if it goes wrong or too much filler but the others can't which i don't really believe
Which is why i was asking about other fillers

Branleuse · 11/07/2019 16:57

I had fillers once in my nose to mouth lines.
I had to go back and get them redone because the first time, you could barely see any difference. The second time it looked better but the results barely lasted a couple of months. I thought it was really bad value for the effect it had, and the time it lasted. I also thought it was quite painful.
I thought botox definitely made me look younger and lasted longer, but fillers, I think unless you get them every couple of months, theres no point. Its quite a slippery slope feeling like you need to erase every line , wrinkle, or sign that youve ever smiled or lived.

Lizzielocket · 11/07/2019 18:27

The longevity of filler depends on which sort you have and where you have it, the filler that is used to give volume to cheeks is much longer lasting than the filler that is used on nose to mouth lines, tear troughs and lips (supposedly lasts 3-6 months)
Google is your friend here, read all the reviews on the different brands of filler and to be honest never, ever go cheap!

funnyfuckers · 11/07/2019 20:38

Juvederm is supposed to last 9 months ish and you do need a lot for a massive change as one syringe is a very subtle look (it's meant to be). I had 4 syringes in one go and don't look fake. Just lifted. I've had Juvederm and restylane and find restylane thicker and lumpy. Juvederm is a more 'natural' look.

funnyfuckers · 11/07/2019 20:40

These days they don't really inject filler right in nose to mouth lines....more the cheek area to lift. Doesn't give that flat look that injecting straight into the area can do.

princessTiasmum · 12/07/2019 15:02

I really had fillers to .....well, make my face look fuller after losing fat in cheeks, i am oldish, so didn;t want to look ridiculous, but it does knock a few years off, you couldn't tell, it looks very natural, just worried it wont last very long
Will google best and longer lasting fillers, cant afford £800 every few months
I really dont know why she wanted to do in 2 lots, as they can tell when they do it how its going to look, just about more money i think

Indigo2019 · 12/07/2019 15:09

I had cheek fillers and tear trough fillers and I found it a complete waste of money. There was a very subtle difference that I couldn’t see in the mirror only in photos but for the cost it was not worth it. The procedure didn’t hurt but wasn’t very pleasant. I also bruised badly.

princessTiasmum · 12/07/2019 17:17

I have just looked on you tube for the best fillers, for different areas, and Juvaderm Voluma was the longest lasting for cheeks restylane the lest longest, so that has answered that question, didn't give prices,,but said Juvaderm was more expensive than restylane but that i think is worth it for a longer lasting result

princessTiasmum · 12/07/2019 17:20

Indigo sorry you were disappointed, but maybe you didn't really need it, as much as someone like me,it made a big difference to me, but my daughter had cheek fillers and i could hardly tell, i think probably younger people it wont show as much unless they have more of it, because the skin and muscle is tighter anyway
