Botox not working?

Ironandwhine1 · 07/07/2019 08:48

I had Botox Tuesday evening on my frown lines. I was actually delighted as on day two I definitely noticed a softening. I was so happy on what I saw already. I could still frown but definitely an improvement.
The thing is I have woken up today ( after a very bad nights sleep) and noticed they look almost back to usual again. I can’t find any info online about it. I went to a very reputable dr and they defo used Botox. She told me it would take two weeks to take full effect and I have a follow up
In two weeks
I’m just hugely disappointed this morning as I was definitely seeing improvement. It’s almost like it had worn off which seems impossible already. I know it doesn’t work on some plp but I’m certain it had started working. It’s seems really unusual for Botox to start showing after 3 days and then day 5 look reversed. It’s still harder to frown. Maybe I have tried frowning too much and undone it, yesterday I was outside in bright light....
any ideas or experiences?

It can’t have worn off already. Give it up to two weeks as she said. Mine never seems to work and then I suddenly notice it at the two week mark that I’m immobile!

Ironandwhine1 · 07/07/2019 09:23

Thanks , that is reassuring. Just seems odd that I definitely noticed a subtle change and now it’s almost back to usual ...

It does take 2 weeks to kick in and she will do a top up after 2 weeks if you need anymore. If it’s your first time she’s probably been more light handed for obvious reasons. Honestly in two weeks it will be in effect but ask for a bit more if you think you need it.

I'm not an aesthetic botox practitioner but I know about it from a medical pov and have worked with many people that have been injected for medical reasons.
Like other posters say, it takes 2-6 weeks for its maximum effect to show so give it time.
Most people report an 'instant' effect that wears off... however studies have shown that injecting a bolus of saline show the same thing. It's just the effect of the muscle being injected with something.
Some people have some immunity to Botulinum toxin (that Botox is made from), as it is a naturally occurring substance and this is one of the reasons people get a varied effect from it, or that the effect lessens with repeated injections.
But give it a couple of weeks maybe taking pictures to compare?

browzingss · 07/07/2019 21:23

In my opinion, Botox takes time (ie 2 weeks) to properly kick in and numb the muscle. I get Botox in my masseter muscles for TMJ pain and still had full full facial movement for the first 10 days, then I could finally see/feel a difference.

evilharpy · 08/07/2019 00:24

I had mine for the first time about 6 weeks ago. It was great... but it’s completely worn off already.

gumbalina01 · 08/07/2019 00:30

I wish I could afford Botox. I’ve taken to wearing a high ponytail

Ironandwhine1 · 08/07/2019 08:37

Thanks for the replies. Day 6 and still able to frown. It’s definitively more difficult to frown but the lines don’t look that much softened. I don’t expect miracles but the result is really not as good as what I was expecting.
Really hope it improves. As I said it was a very reputable place and obviously after years of wasting money on creams I wanted to invest so it wasn’t cheap. The lines were bad but not very extreme as I’m in my early 30’s. It was just my frown lines. I know they weren’t going to disappear completely but thought they’d soften more tbh. Maybe I’m just too impatient!

Day 7 and I definitely thought I’d see an improvement by now. I wasn’t expecting miracles but very underwhelmed and surprised. I can still frown and the lines look just as bad. Strangely last night the area felt tighter and the lines looked softer but back to this morning and they look as bad as ever...
I am really hoping that it kicks in the second week.

Drink lots of water OP - dehydrated skin shows wrinkles very badly

YesQueen · 09/07/2019 11:21

It takes 10-14 days on me and I always have a top up too

Scorpiovenus · 09/07/2019 11:24

Mine took 5 days and then it was fully in. Give it time and then if not they just didn't inject enough and they should fix it for free as it hasent taken.

Never fall for cheap deals as they are usually getting rid of old stock and sometimes isn't as effective.

browzingss · 09/07/2019 11:30

Oh no OP - would be interesting to see your before/after photos

Ironandwhine1 · 09/07/2019 12:04

Hi Brow, it basically looks the same and really strange as can frown more than yesterday, definitely expected a slight improvement by now. It actually looked better a few days agoSad
To the pp I drink loads of water, exercise, don’t smoke or drink. I’ve had frown lines since my teens. That’s why I guess I’m so disappointed, it’s taken me years to get the courage to do something about them. I absolutely hate how they make my face look angry all the time.

First time I had Botox I was extremely disappointed as thought that it hadn't worked. The 2 week mark came and almost instantly I noticed a complete difference. Give it time

Ironandwhine1 · 09/07/2019 12:42

Thank you newname. I keep reading that it can take two weeks so really hopeful!!

OP posts:
browzingss · 09/07/2019 20:23

If you don’t see a difference by the golden two week mark, definitely book in a follow up appointment with your practitioner to see what went wrong! A decent practitioner should rectify this for you.

Ironandwhine1 · 11/07/2019 19:18

Day 9 and still no improvement at all, so, so disappointed when I wake and the frown lines are still as deep as ever (fillers in this area are too risky so Botox is as far as I’ll go).
I definitely can’t frown as much but it’s made absolutely no difference to the lines at all. I get that because they are static they’d still be there but expected to them to be much softer... I have seen pictures of plp with similar lines on here hey better results.
Although the dr is very reputable I have to say I noticed something in hindsight. She had the vials (like a small pack of them) on a table behind her. Should these not have been in a fridge? Beginning to wonder if this had effected my result... Obviously I would be charged but wondering if I could go else where for a top up or better to go to the sane person. Just doubting her now.

Ironandwhine1 · 11/07/2019 19:25

Same not sane !!!

That's disappointing. Wait two weeks then go back.

trackingmedown · 12/07/2019 01:00

My doctor says it takes two/three weeks to fully kick in. If I’m not happy after that then I can go back for a top up which is included in my original payment. I’ve never had to do that but maybe you will.

GlamGiraffe · 12/07/2019 01:31

No, they don't usually keep the botox in the fridge at doctors I've ever seen. A reputable dr will always start off giving you less rathet than more to judge your reaction then top you up as necessary. Quite Simply, i dont think youve had enough, contact the dr and ask for more. Often top ups are done to get a perfect appearance, for a full effect to take place and to slightly tweak the appearance of, for example, eyebrows. It's not uncommon to be topped up or adjusted. Good doctors will do this free of charge and without question.

Ironandwhine1 · 12/07/2019 20:05

Thank you so much for the replies. Maybe I’m being inpatient but it’s ten days now and although it’s harder to frown there is absolutely no difference to the lines at all. This was 200 euros worth..
It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to get it done as I’m very health conscious but these frown lines have really bothered me for so many years, I posted before and it was so encouraging as many people wrote about how amazed and delighted they were by the results on their frown lines.
I hope the top up works. Beginning to wonder if I’m immune to it as honestly the frown lines are really exactly the same. Still holding out some hope that it’ll change by next week which will be the two week mark and encouraged by some examples here. I expected to still see the lines but thought they’d be a lot softer, they are completely unchanged.

You mention you exercise? How strenuous? I do alot of running and once when I had botox I needed a top up before noticing any change- it was around the time I was running daily.

Goodnightchristopherrobin · 12/07/2019 21:14

I’m looking into Botox, I’m following with interest.
