Daith piercing - how much does it hurt while healing?

I currently just got lobes pierced, when had cartilage at top of ear pierced a few years ago I had to take it out due to the pain, especially sleeping ...

I love daiths but the idea of it being very sore for quite some time after is putting me off.

Can anyone tell me about the paaaaaaiiiin?

Thanks!

It was fucking painful having it done (2 weeks ago) but I've had zero problems since, although it's still early days. It's quite protected so it's been absolutely fine to sleep on, I only notice it when I go to itch my ear and remember it's there. Hopefully it will heal ok (I had to take 2 lobe piercings out as they never healed).

JoyceDivision · 01/07/2019 19:52

Oooh thanks, Stunt croissant.

Do you mind me asking if you had a bar or hoop / clicker / heart thingy put in when pierced?

Hi, I have my daith pierced with a barbell along with numerous others, and probably found it much easier to cope with pain wise than healing my conch/helix piercings. Only thing I will say is the initial piercing itself is bloody awful (they use a curved needle to pierce, terrifying) and I bled A LOT. If you have little ears like me, be prepared for an experience! 100% recommend it though. Get a travel pillow to sleep on while it heals.

FFSMelvin · 01/07/2019 20:01

I had mine done a year ago. Mine wasn't sore for long. The piercing itself was a bit horrid. I was lay on my side and I bled a lot. It ran into my ear. Ugh.

But, they cleaned me up well and it really didn't hurt after that.

TheQueef · 01/07/2019 20:02

I cleverly had both done at once migraine desperation it hurts.
It hurts when they do it if you have knobbly ears, it bleeds a lot and hurts and takes ages to heal.
Cost was £40.
One at once if you go for it.

Chloe9 · 01/07/2019 20:09

@TheQueef

Sounds dreadful...

But did it work?

JoyceDivision · 01/07/2019 20:12

Ok,thanks everyone, so getting impression not too bad after but severe pain at point of piercing....

TheQueef · 01/07/2019 20:19

@Chloe9
Did it fuck Grin but like the BOTOX and acupuncture and cranial massage etc it was worth a try.
Mine are severe and resistant though. Worth a punt if you don't mind piercings.

Aworldofmyown · 01/07/2019 20:25

Sorry, mine didn't really hurt having it done but was horrendous after. Couldn't sleep on it for about six months.
I had it changed recently and this piercer suggested it may have been because I had it done with a heart and that can move about more than a dumbbell type one.

TooMinty · 01/07/2019 20:28

I really fancy a daith piercing but have ruined my sleep already by having two helixes done on the side I like to lie on...

Sadie789 · 01/07/2019 20:35

Mine wasn’t painful so much as it never really healed. After 6 months I wanted it changed to a nicer bar and went back to same piercer but a different girl who clearly had no idea what she was doing, couldn’t get the new one in and in the end put the old one back in. A few hours later I touched my ear and discovered she hadn’t screwed it on properly so id lost the ball and the bar was hanging out. I tried to get it back in but it was too sore so I took it out and let it close up.

To me it was just too much hassle. Even when I was letting it close up it was still weeping and crusting for months.

Sadie789 · 01/07/2019 20:35

I second what everyone’s saying about sleeping on it too.

Also if you’re having it for migraines - doesn’t work.

StuntCroissant · 01/07/2019 20:36

@JoyceDivision I had a hoop clicker thingy. Hoping to change it out for a prettier gold/diamond hoop ASAP but not going to rush it as I think that was what killed my love piercings!

Yutes · 01/07/2019 20:41

It hurt at the time.
I had a heart. I loved it but after over a year, I never really felt that it healed. It kept crusting and I had bumps I couldn’t get rid of. It got caught A LOT.

The piercer told my you need lots of patience. I don’t think piercings are for me

ToooTicky · 01/07/2019 20:44

I had mine done with a clicker ring at Maria Tash in Liberty last November. I prepared myself for horrific pain, but all I felt was pressure - no pain at all! It was sore for a couple of weeks after, but nothing terrible. It still gets a tiny bit crusty, but I just clean it with saline solution a couple of times a week now.

I think the key is to go to a really good piercer for such a specialised piercing, get a recommendation if you can.

As for sleeping, get a travel pillow, lay it flat and sleep with your ear in the gap until you’re fully healed - it’s a lifesaver!

TooMinty · 01/07/2019 20:49

ToooTricky, that travel pillow trick is genius!

WouldHAVEcouldHAVEshouldHAVE · 01/07/2019 20:59

Mine ached/throbbed for a week or so afterwards but I just took ibuprofen. It’s swung between almost healing and then developing bumps and crusts on and off. Not been too bad for the last few months, had it done nearly a year ago.
I want to get it changed for something that doesn't move around as DD had a captive ball ring (same as one I have) on her helix piercing and it was always gunky but when she got it changed for a labret it healed up really well.

GreyHairDontCare3 · 01/07/2019 21:09

I had mine pierced with a bar & healed really well. Didn't catch it all the time like you would with a helix etc

madcatladyforever · 01/07/2019 21:14

I didn't really find it painful but then I have fillings without local anaesthetic.

SouthWestmom · 01/07/2019 21:32

Least painful - had a bar. Healed well - few dodgy moments when it felt weepy but nothing salt water didn't sort. Sleeping was fine as it's inside.

My piercing has relieved my migraines massively - from one a week to one every other month. And then it's more like three days of a migraine trying to start.

My helix piercings got infected and had to come out.

ToooTicky · 01/07/2019 21:33

@TooMinty - it really is, I have become quite a connoisseur of travel pillows Grin

TooMinty · 01/07/2019 21:46

My left ear is what I call my "metal ear" because I keep adding piercings (5 at the moment) but it's also the side I like to sleep on. I'm totally getting a travel pillow ordered on Amazon Prime.

IloveJudgeJudy · 01/07/2019 22:58

DD had one done the same day I had my tragus done. We went to a specialist piercer. She's had no problems at all. We did get sold, and used, a spray water cleaner and a spray antiseptic. DD had a curved bar put in. The piercer told me that my tragus may get a bit puffy after a fortnight even if it was ok at first.

DD had hers done for a migraine preventative as well as the look. It's worked so far.

cushioncovers · 01/07/2019 23:05

I had daith done for migraines. Hasn't worked but I've kept it in. Fecking hurt like hell having it done and took about two months to heal completely

Dillow · 01/07/2019 23:14

Didn't hurt at all, just a lot of pressure for a few seconds then a little pinch, no bleeding at all.

Slept on the other side for a couple of weeks until it healed a bit. It did get bumps but my piercer says leave it alone and they went.

Not had a migraine since, was over three years ago.
