Daith piercing - how much does it hurt while healing?

I currently just got lobes pierced, when had cartilage at top of ear pierced a few years ago I had to take it out due to the pain, especially sleeping ...

I love daiths but the idea of it being very sore for quite some time after is putting me off.

Can anyone tell me about the paaaaaaiiiin?

Thanks!

I had mine done just over a year ago and it’s only recently healed. Kids kept knocking it (agony). It really hurt when I had it done and I have a high pain threshold. Lots of blood and sore whenever I touched it. I went to a reputable piercer but I don’t think it properly started to heal until I changed it for a lighter one at Maria Tash. I had it done for for margarines (I was getting one or two a month) and I’ve had one since I had it done. Not sure if it’s psychosomatic but I’m keeping it it! I thought it was worth a try, I like the look of them and if it didn’t work I could just take it out. The pain was nothing like how debilitating my migraines were.

Ah travel pillow! Brilliant idea! I have a new helix that’s a pain in the arse (ear!) and conch on the other side that’s a million times better now it’s been changed for a shorter post.

I nearly bought one of those ‘the pillow with a hole’ but £50 Shock

Sodamncaughtinthemiddle · 02/07/2019 05:55

Daith was fine. Didn't really hurt when done and not too painful after. Not able to sleep on it for a couple of days. Helix and conch much more painful.

Lauren83 · 02/07/2019 05:59

I had 4 done at once (daith both sides, rook on one and helix on the other) the only one I had problems with was the helix and I ended up taking it out as it was swollen and kept catching

Sorry should have said I had a ring with a ball on one side and a heart on the other, been meaning to change them to smaller ones this has reminded me

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 02/07/2019 06:34

"I didn't really find it painful but then I have fillings without local anaesthetic."

Good God, madcatladyforever...that's stopped in its tracks me thinking my high pain threshold was quite impressive!

You'd have aced the dentist torture scene in 'Marathon Man', then.

I also found the conch piercing very painful immediately and for a few hours afterwards, but no pain after that. I also have a couple of faux rooks that are healing well at the moment, they’re a little warm but nothing more. I have seven piercings in my left ear, five in the right.

The key to a good travel pillow (IMO) is to find one that’s fairly flat in shape, i.e. doesn’t have any raised head supports etc. It’s also good if they have a press stud fastening to keep the two ends together so that it almost forms a ring. I also prefer the memory foam pillows to those with the bead type filling.

@TheQueef

Oh that's a shame
I've been thinking of trying for migraines
I thought I'd tried a lot of things but your list is impressive and some of its different than mine

bigcheesematrix · 02/07/2019 18:10

I had mine done about a month ago with the heart ring. It didn't hurt too much having it and after the first couple of days I could sleep ok on that side. It's healing nicely and I'm having it changed to a smaller ring because I'd like to be able to put an ear plug in (to block out OH snoring) and I can't fit it in with the heart.
Next time I get a piercing I'm having it done on the other side as I sleep less on that side and it was difficult sleeping the first couple of nights.
I reckon a bar is the most comfortable - less pivoting movement.

Fizzypoo · 02/07/2019 18:13

It was so flipping painful getting it done. I've had mine for more than a year now and it still hurts every now and again.

After it was pierced for months after I wished I didn't do it.

JoyceDivision · 02/07/2019 21:18

Ah Fizzypoo, I just read Bigcheesematrix's post and was gearing up to have it done and then I read yours and it put me right off Grin

Mine didn't hurt in the slightest but the healing was a bastard. It got hugely infected - massive pus filled lump on the top bit of the piercing. Great fun when it burst, though, and it's been fine since.

Fizzypoo · 03/07/2019 08:39

It also still gets quite crusty, and I never had a lot of ear wax before and now I have dirty ears that need cleaning after every hair wash Shock

QueenofLouisiana · 03/07/2019 16:16

Mine was fine: a pinch and a pop sound as it was done, a bit sore for a couple of days.

It went a bit sticky after 5 months, then healed well. Much easier and more comfortable than my helix in the same ear.

SushiTime · 11/07/2019 12:04

@ToooTicky snap! Who pierced you? The team at MT are so fab!

ToooTicky · 11/07/2019 12:54

@SushiTime Eduardo pierced my daith, he was lovely!

However my all time favourite ever piercer is Nicole at Sacred Gold - she’s done all my other piercings (other than the initial lobe piercings I had when I was 11). She is an amazing piercer, but also has an excellent eye for pieces that work together and exact placements, can’t recommend her highly enough!
