COS - do they not understand women have breasts

Loubilou09 · 27/06/2019 14:57

I have just looked at their site and every dress and top is high necked. Everything.. apart from one wrap around dress is buttoned up or right up to the neck.

I only really suit V neck or cowl neck due to having these things called boobs and I look dreadfully matronly with things buttoned up to my neck.

It is quite astonishing as some of their pieces look like they could be nice if they were V or even scooped at the front.

While COS clothing can accomodate curves to extent, it’s designed to be a loose airy fit on tall people with straight figures or little to no waist.

nothingwittyhere · 27/06/2019 15:01

I look dreadful in scoop necks and best in high necks, and often have problems finding high-necked clothes. So horses for courses.

Weathergirl1 · 27/06/2019 15:10

I guess they're designing for a specific body shape though. As someone with the opposite 'problem' (I don't actually find it a problem!) I find some clothing brands a pain too as they're cut to accommodate more than I have to fill them out. I guess the answer is to find the brand that styles to your shape and stick with it? 🤷

silverystream · 27/06/2019 15:12

I like higher necks as I've had a mastectomy without reconstruction. I don't have to be concerned about my full cup bras (one side which holds some padding to even me up) showing. Also less sun cream needed. Win win.Grin

At the moment I'm avoiding sleeveless dresses. It means shaving armpits carefully around scars and I cannot be bothered... And also more suncream.

LunaTheCat · 27/06/2019 15:13

I am a FF and often wear Cos.
Recently I bought one of their boat necked dresses with fold over collar 60’s style -it looked fantastic!
Their sizing is dreadful though - I have everything from XS to 16!

brogueish · 27/06/2019 15:35

How odd, I've just looked at the dresses and seen V, square, boat, as well as round necks. Buttons can always be undone if you prefer. Quite a few V neck dresses in the sale section too.

But we don't all have to like/buy the same stuff anyway.

bingoitsadingo · 27/06/2019 17:13

They have loads of stuff that's V necked, scoop necked, and other low necklines Confused would you like some links?

Personally I prefer higher necklines so I love it.

CircleofWillis · 27/06/2019 17:33

Their clothes have no hanger appeal. You really have to try them on.

Loubilou09 · 27/06/2019 18:23

Yes please send me some links to the v necked and scooped and even low necklines as I can see very limited options.

Their clothes are massive so not sure how they can be appealing to straight up and down?

But whatever, they are obviously popular on MN

It’s not really a brand that does revealing clothes. I guess you have to size up if you have big boobs. It’s about a loose and laid back look.

applesandacorns · 27/06/2019 18:50

Not trying to sound sarcastic, but why don't you shop somewhere that does the necklines you want OP?

Bodicea · 27/06/2019 18:51

I have big boobs and rarely wear v-neck or cowl neck. Aren’t those shapes a bit dated now? I wear lots of high necks. I just keep it simple on my top half ( no pockets etc) and make sure they don’t hang straight from the bust.
I don’t think I would wear coz as it isn’t fitted enough though. It is meant for tall waif like people I think. I am always amazed how brands get by selling to a small proportion of the population. I don’t know that many tall waif like people in real life.

But anyway I would definitely try and expand your horizons in terms of tops.

Bodicea · 27/06/2019 18:51

*cos

Loubilou09 · 27/06/2019 19:10

Errrmmm so a V or cowl neck is now classed as "revealing" or tight.

Wow Grin

Bodicea most of my clothes come from White Company, Jigsaw, Whistles and theres lots of V necks, scoops and cowl amongst them and it's all loose and and laid back, so not sure if the necklines are outdated for younger people but still very much "in" for the age groups that those shops are catering for.

My horizons have been expanded over the years, it has taken me a long long time to realise that up to the neck styles don't me, neither do the suit the majority of women with large boobs over a certain age.

Cos clothes, in every other respect seem to be catering for a more mature lady so can't don't really understand the waif like angle...there aren't many waif like 50 year olds.

But hey they seem to be popular with MN so I guess there is a market for it.

I know what you mean. I love their look but as I have E cup boobs most of the things I like hang straight out and down from my chest. So from the front it looks okay but from the side? Hello 3 ring circus tent. I go in and try things on then leave seriously considering boob reduction.

That said I have a few things from them, I am tall and have no real waist so they are still worth a look.

evilharpy · 28/06/2019 07:06

I have small boobs and narrow shoulders. I like the high necks.

RandomNameChange415 · 28/06/2019 07:15

I find it annoying when I go to a shop and find that most of the tops have V necks which expose an unattractive expanse of my rib cage. Not planning to picket Bravissimo any time soon. Women with substantial busts want clothes that suit them, and women with flatter chests want clothes that suit them. Thank heavens that there are a range of different shops with their clothes cut in different styles.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 28/06/2019 07:27

You see those wrap dresses that are everywhere? You know what they look like on the flat - chested? It ain't pretty! Grin
Everyone's got problems, just find a store that caters to your body shape.

toottootchuggachugga · 28/06/2019 07:30

You just HAVE to try things on. I take an hour's train twice a year to shop there-have had nothing but disappointment shopping online and yet all my nicest stuff is from there.

evilharpy · 28/06/2019 07:33

Yes to the deep v necks and wrap dresses. I look awful in both, especially the wrap dresses, they just gape on me.

Gunpowder · 28/06/2019 07:35

I’ve never luck in there either (curvy size 8-10)

Gunpowder · 28/06/2019 07:35

Never HAD

LazyDaisey · 28/06/2019 07:37

“neither do the suit the majority of women with large boobs over a certain age.”

Well I’m of a certain age, an apple with G size and their clothes are the most flattering thing on me. I hate V necks - it just makes me look like I have even bigger breasts and draws attention to an area that doesn’t need emphasis anymore.

I think the V neck is a bunch of bollocks that Trinny and Susanna promoted.

LazyDaisey · 28/06/2019 07:38

Any more emphasis. Not emphasis anymoreGrin

chasingseagulls · 28/06/2019 07:38

Cos clothes, in every other respect seem to be catering for a more mature lady so can't don't really understand the waif like angle...there aren't many waif like 50 year olds.

Couldn't disagree more re the age thing, in my Cos there is every age group from 20-60+ browsing, trying on and buying. I think it's actually one of the few shops that does manage to bridge the age gap and something for everyone.

They definitely do have a specific aesthetic though, bodycon it is not, but thats not their fault, it just won't be to everyones taste.

Definitely, definitely try things on, and experiment with sizes. I wonder sometimes if the random sizing is deliberate, because going smaller or larger can change not just the fit but the look and style of some their stuff, its actually quite a versatile feature.
