Eye overhang - pics

Any idea why the eye overhangs like this. It's kind of dropped, obviously an age thing. But only one of my eyes, the other is fine.

I wondered if there could be a reason? To do with sleeping on one side (long shot).

Is there anything to be done? Make up, creams? Surgery (not that bad yet I don't think).

That looks normal to me! Can we see your other eye?

Tiredtessy · 25/06/2019 08:23

Mine are like this, think it’s age and tiredness, I want a face lift and I’m not even 40!

LizzieSiddal · 25/06/2019 08:25

It’s genetics and there’s not much you can do about it.

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 25/06/2019 08:29

Your eyes are 'hooded'. So are mine.

There is an operation that can cut out a teardrop wedge of skin to lessen the hooding, but some has to remain to hide the scar.

When I suffer from anaphylaxis, the hoods swell so much, they close my eyes.

Eyeshadow is pointless....

Friend of mine had this but much worse when she was 40. She had a very simple surgery- very little recovery time. I’m not a fan of cosmetic surgery but it honestly shaved 10 years off her.

Soola · 25/06/2019 08:32

You can buy those transparent eye shapers that Jennifer Anniston uses as she has hooded eyes.

I couldn’t get on with them but they are popular.

LittlefairyMum · 25/06/2019 08:42

Botox will sort this out if you'd consider it.

ACurlyWurly · 25/06/2019 08:44

search hooded eye makeup in you tube. there are lots of tutorials which can help you as makeup needs to be in a different place to be effective, its helped me a lot but now i am looking for eye shapers!

Swiftier · 25/06/2019 08:49

Blepharoplasty - eyelid surgery - would resolve this. I haven’t had it but it’s meant to be a fairly simple and easy surgery.

Swiftier · 25/06/2019 08:50

Botox could make it worse, by the way, as it can make your brow drop.

FairyDust92 · 25/06/2019 08:52

Try eyelid tape. It's meant to be quite good.

Exitstrategist · 25/06/2019 08:53

I actually think you can get it done through NHS or private insurance if it affects your vision. Otherwise it costs about £2000

Crazyladee · 25/06/2019 08:54

Second the comment about botox making it worse. I can say that from experience!

PeonyPink0 · 25/06/2019 08:54

You have got very normal hooded eyelids. Very common, nothing to do with how you sleep!

Ohyesiam · 25/06/2019 08:54

If it’s p loo etc eye you should get it checked out by GP, it could be a neurological symptom.

Ohyesiam · 25/06/2019 08:55

Sorry! If it’s only one eye

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 25/06/2019 09:04

My mum had the operation as her eyelids were impinging on her peripheral vision. It was done under sedation, took about 30mins in total and she was home that afternoon. Sore for a couple of days and looked like she'd been in a fight for about 2 weeks!

LittlefairyMum · 25/06/2019 09:05

@Swiftier
Not if it's done correctly.

I use it all the time. My lids would be the same without it.

FreeFreesia · 25/06/2019 09:44

Agree if it's one eye only get along to a decent optician for a thorough check out.

SallyWD · 25/06/2019 09:47

I saw this advert on Facebook. You can get a tiny bit of invisible plastic to hold the skin up. I can't remember what it's called but you could look in to that before considering surgery.

Swiftier · 25/06/2019 09:49

@LittlefairyMum that’s why I said ‘could’. Botox could make it worse. Proceed with caution.

Crazyladee · 25/06/2019 10:44

@littlefairymum

I have a fairly lined forehead. My deeper lines are just very slightly above my eyebrows. Because I don't have a fringe and wear my hair off my face I feel very self conscious of it. However my botox technician is very cautious about going near those wrinkles due to it making my brows droop.

Once I talked her into putting an injection very near my upper brows and regretted it as once it had taken, my eyelids became very droopy to the point you could barely see my eyelids due to the overhang.

So Im genuinely interested to know how your botox technician gets around this problem.

lhastingsmua · 25/06/2019 11:44

This will sound a bit odd, but as you only have this with one eye, you could try out droopy eyelid massage techniques and see if massaging helps. I read about this years ago but can’t remember specifics, something along the lines of lymph drainage

Veterinari · 25/06/2019 12:18

If it’s just one eye go and see an optician/doctor
