Would you wear this to a wedding??

I’ve bought this dress for an afternoon “lounge suit” dress code wedding and am now panicking it’s too casual. How would you dress this up? I’m twenties, short, pale and slim, typical style is casual with basic makeup only. TIA Smile

Lounge suit- I have no idea what that means!

Lollypop701 · 20/06/2019 21:24

Photo please

ZiggyB · 20/06/2019 21:28

I don’t think it’s too casual. Although I’m generally quite casual and find it hard to dress for weddings myself.

What about some nice wedges and a bamboo shoulder bag?

Usuallyinthemiddle · 20/06/2019 21:28

Lounge suits are smart suits but not top & tails.

Its a bit casual, I think. Very pretty though.

Bag

I have no idea what a lounge suit is.

I like the dress though and think it woukd be nice with some metallic heels and several bangles.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/06/2019 21:30

It is a bit too casual I think. Also if it doesn’t look very flattering on the model I’m not sure how it would look on.

Skinandbones · 20/06/2019 21:31

You could get a gorgeous shawl to fling over you, might come in handy if the weather cools down. What about your hair what is it like and what are you doing with it? Shoes and bag could also give it a lift. Not sure about jewelry may be earrings and a few stacking bracelets.

Pipandmum · 20/06/2019 21:31

Lounge suit is formal but not as formal as black tie. I think this dress is too casual. It’s made of cotton and more suitable to a summer lunch than a wedding.

sheshootssheimplores · 20/06/2019 21:31

I like it!

Swiftier · 20/06/2019 21:33

Personally think it’s too formal - to me it looks more like something you’d wear for a nice lunch/drinks on a weekend rather than a wedding - I don’t think it’s quite special enough.

Swiftier · 20/06/2019 21:33

Too CASUAL even!

Ohyesiam · 20/06/2019 21:37

I’d say that would be fine for the wedding.

SpaSushi · 20/06/2019 21:38

Too casual for the dress code

perizadah · 20/06/2019 21:41

Hmmm mixed opinions... sound like lots of you think it’s too casual though! It’s just for the afternoon ceremony and lunch, the evening reception is black tie if that makes a difference.

@Lollypop701 apologies for the terrible changing room picture

@WhereForArtThouBray metallic is a good idea for making it a bit smarter. There’s a good chance some of it will be outside so was planning to wear chunky heeled tan sandals (already have these) so no sinking into grass. I will definitely look at bangles...

@hormonesorDHbeingadick I wasn’t sure either when I received the invitation! As far as I can make out it’s business suits for men and “equivalent” for women

Lovely for a wedding once you have a fascinator or hat and buttonhole on.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 20/06/2019 21:46

Guess it depends on your circle of friends or relatives.

It’s a nice print and shape - it’s the fabric that’s a little lacking in the celebratory element. (I mean it would have been better in silk.) If you could add more luxurious accessories it should be ok.

LimpidPools · 20/06/2019 22:03

As you say your usual style is casual, I think this is rather a good compromise actually - a more formal cut in a less formal fabric. It also seems perfectly suitable for the afternoon.

It suits you, although you're right, that photo is dreadful!

Where is the ceremony taking place? And what is the bride and groom's style? That will give you a good idea of how polished you are supposed to look.

For what it's worth, I'd wear the tan wedges though. Nobody will be looking at your feet, but they'll notice if you can't walk for sinking in the grass.

Pinotjo · 20/06/2019 22:10

I wouldn't wear it, too casual, I'd go for palazzo pants, matching jkt and a cami

ohhelpohnoitsa · 20/06/2019 22:17

Book in to the hairdresser for an 'up do' then you will look very groomed and wedding-ready. Maybe add a fancy hair slide. The dress will be fine

Kochicoo · 20/06/2019 22:18

Agree with others that it's the material which is too casual. It looks nice but is it cotton jersey type material?

RemainRita · 20/06/2019 22:19

It's a lounge suit dress code! Do NOT wear a fascinator!

The dress looks great :-)

perizadah · 20/06/2019 22:37

Thanks for all the opinions, lots to think about!

I have a couple of other dresses ordered so will see if any of those work better and have a honk about glamming up with bangles/fancy hair

@Kochicoo it’s a fairly thick/stiff woven cotton fabric - more similar to stiff linen than cotton jersey
